EduCast #8 - Life Skills Education

Guest: Missy Leisk – Director of Student Services & Special Education   We meet Missy whose title involving student services is only the tip of all that she does, including serving on an elected state board.  In her seventh year in the industry, this is her first in the Altoona School District.   She tells us the focus on meeting all students needs which varies from individual to individual.  The concept of special education has evolved greatly over the years.  Social and emotional learning, more specifically “life skills” such as communication and decision-making are intricate to the process to building overall SEL skills. The podcast also touches on outside fears that this is only an opportunity to “indoctrinate” various controversial opinions to students.
