Tackling air pollution in Ghana (Africa) - what you should know || Collins Gameli Hodoli
Collins Gameli Hodoli is a curious environmental scientist with a passion for environmental sustainability and public health protection. A Pan African whose research interest cuts across DIY and IoT approaches to revolutionize air quality monitoring in Ghana and wider Africa. He holds a PhD in Environment and Agrifood (Environmental Technology); published in peer-reviewed journals, and offered thoughts on the usefulness of meaningful open-source air quality data to engage, educate and empower African citizens on the health-damaging impacts of air pollution.
He is the founder and director of Operations for Clean Air One Atmosphere (CAOA) - a non-profit he founded during the first year of his PhD studies at Cranfield University, UK. To the best of his knowledge, CAOA is the first organisation in Africa to have built and launched a flagship mobile application that meaningfully communicates air quality data which also includes population health surveillance data to support air pollution health effects studies. His work cuts across air pollution research in West Africa.

Event PROMO: The "Philosophy in PhD" PodiNar series - Part II
Event PROMO! Event PROMO! Event PROMO!
The Green Living Chats podcast presents the "Philosophy in PhD" PodiNar series.
In this second program of the podinar series, we hope to achieve two main objectives:
Discuss the value of learning to summarize big ideas: According to Arckam's razor, Truth Is Simple. Therefore, the ability of any graduate student to present their opinions or findings in concise and coherent words reflects how well they have thought about them and understand them. Here we discuss the 3minutes thesis module.
Developing interdisciplinary research collaborations: Ideas do not reside in one mind or field. Therefore, to adequately tackle problems in society, reasons must come together. But what is the value of this? What does it look like?
Attendees will benefit from developing a 3-mins thesis presentation and cultivating interdisciplinary research collaborations.
All graduate students are invited.
Find more details about registration here: https://glcpodcast.ecoametsolutions.com/.

The 4th Ghana Green Building Summit 2021
The 4th Ghana Green Building Summit 2021
The Annual Ghana Green Building Summit (GGBS) was created in 2017 to evaluate Ghana’s Green Building needs and tailor the local design, finance, and policy solutions. In the past three editions, prior speakers have included ministers of state, policymakers, international development agencies, industry experts and professional associations.
Having had the opportunity to discuss materials and design extensively in past year summits, this year we are highlighting how efficient operational management of a building’s life cycle can contribute immensely to increased comfort, financial savings and reduction in carbon emissions.
This inspired the 2021 theme: Re-thinking Operations Management for High-Performance Buildings.
Some confirmed speakers for the Summit are the Minister of Works and Housing, Ghana; Minister of Energy, Ghana; Mayor of Accra; Industry experts from Denmark, Nigeria, South Africa and the UK will present at the Summit.

BiogasUnite - join our aid-free initiative for entrepreneurs in Africa | (B)energy
Biogas entrepreneurs in Africa join forces to demand better working conditions and regulate foreign aid involvement.
#BiogasUnite is an initiative of local and international companies and entrepreneurs to improve the conditions for all in the biogas sector. Up to now, the biogas sector has been primarily driven by donor-funded projects and programs without creating a sustainable, fair and functioning biogas market anywhere. As a result, not only has market development largely failed, but markets are distorted, and the reputation of biogas as clean cooking fuel has been destroyed. As entrepreneurs, we are interested in working in reliable and protected environments, solid and competitive markets with equal conditions for all players and clear rules regarding technology and service quality to assure a good reputation of biogas among customers, partners and investors. In this podcast, we present the reasons and aims of #BiogasUnite.
Katrin Pütz As an agricultural engineer, environmental scientist and cabinet maker, Katrin developed the concept and technology for mobile biogas between 2010 and 2013. Since 2013 Katrin has been (B)energy's head & heart.

My Clean Beach initiative | Geeva Samynathan - pt. 2/2
Geeva Samynathan joined me on the Green Living Chats podcast to talk about "My Clean Beach initiative in Malaysia. We talked about why people litter and the power of being part of a solution. Geeva has always enjoyed my time at the beach, and I find those quiet moments to be precious. Having the opportunity to live most of my life not far away from the ocean, she always knew every humankind needs to be responsible. And she personally thought people's littering behaviour is always a concern, with MY Clean Beach's birth. MY Clean Beach is a team of people gathered together to protect and preserve marine life and tackle the growing plastic pollution problem. We pledge to raise awareness and expand the knowledge of environmental protection to everyone across the nation. We are currently partnering with universities and organizations to create more events, campaigns and education.

Why do "people" litter | My Clean Beach initiative | Geeva Samynathan - pt.1/2
Why do "people" litter | My Clean Beach initiative | Geeva Samynathan - pt.1/2

Let's talk about "RECYCLING" | Nicole Baker Loke
Let's talk about "RECYCLING" | Nicole Baker Loke
Nicole Baker Loke joined me in the podcast to discuss the role of effective recycling in a circular economy and the loopholes we need to consider in sustainable economic growth.
Nicole Baker Loke is a former North Pacific groundfish fisheries observer (2010-2015) and Net Your Problem LLC founder. Net Your Problem collects fishing gear from fishers and sends it to recyclers who turn it into the raw material needed to manufacture plastic products. Net Your Problem has been actively establishing programs to dispose of waste in remote fishing communities since 2017 and currently operates in Alaska, Maine and California. Projects are in development for other ports on all the US coasts. Over 971,000 lbs of fishing gear have been recycled so far from individual fishing vessels and by partnering with Native Tribes and community groups.
Nicole has given presentations for many different audiences, including at industry meetings, inter-governmental meetings (the Arctic Council), waste management practitioners, and entire communities and other entrepreneurs. In April 2020, Net Your Problem completed a Maritime Accelerator program and pitched it to a virtual audience of 250 maritime professionals and investors. In 2021, Net Your Problem was selected to participate in the Alliance to End Plastic Waste Accelerator Program. Nicole currently serves as the co-chair of the Cordage Institute Life Cycle Management Committee, is a member of the IMAREST Plastics Special Interest Group and the Global Industry Alliance of the FAO~IMO GloLitter project. Nicole also received the Alaska SeaLife Center Ocean Leadership award for Sustainability in 2021 and is a finalist in the Rare Solution Search competition for solutions to plastic pollution that rely on behaviour change.
