EP 88: Building Muscle with Diabetes: Everything You Need to Know with Anthony Baklouk

Building muscle with type 1 diabetes, what is there to know? We all know there are a lot of factors to consider with exercise and blood sugar management, but what about when it comes to actually seeing results?

Meet Anthony Baklouk. Anthony is a fitness trainer with his bachelors in Health Science. He's been training clients in person and online for the past 8 years inside his private training and meal prepping company, Baklouk Training. He helps his clients get Bak on Track so they can achieve their goals and sustain them long term through weight training and addressing daily habits. Although Anthony does not live with T1D himself, he has been my and my fiance's trainer for the last 2.5 years and he's taught us everything we know about gaining muscle, which is why I wanted to bring him onto the show.

Inside this episode, Anthony and I sit down to discuss the foundations of building muscle, where most people get it wrong and how to get started in your own journey.

Ep 50: Three Factors to Consider Tracking to Support Your Blood Sugar Management (Outside Of Carbs & Insulin)

Ep 50: Three Factors to Consider Tracking to Support Your Blood Sugar Management (Outside Of Carbs & Insulin)

When we're initially diagnosed with T1D, we're lead to believe that essentially the only three numbers that matter are the number of carbs we're eating in our meal, the number of units to take of insulin, and the number on our meter.

But when we take a holistic approach, we can see that there's so much more to the journey. We always hear, "there are 42 things that impact blood sugar" - well not for nothing, but why aren't we considering them in our every day decisions?

While I'm not here to tell you that you should be considering every single one in every single daily dosing decision, there are a few things that should be top of mind and we're breaking it all down in this weeks episode!

SHOW NOTES

EP 37: 3 Ways to Improve Your Relationship with Your Blood Sugar (Without the "Just Think Positive" Mindset)

EP 37: 3 Ways to Improve Your Relationship with Your Blood Sugar (Without the "Just Think Positive" Mindset)

If you're feeling stuck or a bit burnt out in your diabetes management, this episode is for you. At some point or another, all of us go through ruts in our management, and it's important to normalize it! Instead of trying to to tackle everything at once, I've found it most sustainable to build strong foundations that support us in the ever occurring micro-moments that create big impact in our diabetes management.

Today we're talking about neurolinguistic programming and how you can use the practice of anchoring to build positive pairings that will completely change the relationship and mindset you hold around the blood sugar numbers. The more we implement practices like this, the less we associate our self worth with our blood sugars and the more we see them as an independent part of our lives.
