Judy Lin Walsh shares on The Inheritance Experience

Judy Lin Walsh shares on The Inheritance Experience About: Judy Lin Walsh advises owners of the world’s largest family businesses and family offices on generational transition and succession. Her specialty is working in complex family ownership systems to align the goals of the senior and next generations and to build effective and sustainable governance. With clients spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, Judy’s passion is helping families realize the power of their collective platform to make their mark on world. Judy has written extensively for Harvard Business Review, Trusts & Estates Magazine, and Family Business Magazine, with a focus on issues related to multi-generational family ownership and next generation development, including “The Inheritance Effect,” “Should You Join the Family Business?” and “Is Your Next Generation Entrepreneurial Enough?” She has been quoted in The Financial Times and presented her insights at leading organizations including the National Trust Closely Held Business Association, Trusted Family, Family Business Alliance, and more. One of the challenges Judy enjoys most is helping families understand the impact of estate planning on the psychological ownership of the business. “Later generation inheritors often struggle with being gifted wealth rather than earning it on their own,” Judy observes. But it’s possible to help them reframe their role as active owners with the ability to shape the future of the family enterprise, rather than simply passive beneficiaries. “Both senior and next-generation family owners have a right and responsibility to figure out how they fit into the family enterprise and what their shared legacy will be,” she says. Judy’s fascination with the complex layers of family businesses started early. Her first job was in a family business owned by close family friends. The timing was fortuitous, as the first-generation founder was transitioning to become Board Chairman and the second-generation leader was rising as CEO. The interplay between business decisions and family relationships sparked Judy’s lifelong interest in family businesses.

Joan Sharp Shares on Creating deep rivers that lead to oceans

Joan Sharp Shares on Creating deep rivers that lead to oceans About: Joan Sharp founded River Family Advisors to fill a void she saw in the financial planning sector. As her career develops, Joan continues to see that individuals make choices based on money, ingrained through a variety of family and social pressures, that sometimes results in unhappiness. But Joan finds that money is often an excuse. When asked to take an introspective look at their life choices, people realize the decisions they’ve made, align with unspoken values, visions and expectations, not money. Joan calls herself a Family Advisor in recognition that people’s values and vision, start with family. She is on a mission, Changing the Conversation From money to Vision™ for her clients. Joan holds a Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS) from The American College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Southern Methodist University. Joan has continued her training, bearing the titles of Kolbe Certified™ Consultant, Certified Financial Transitionist® (CeFT™), Registered Life Planner® (RLP®), Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®), and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®). River Family Advisors is the result of the amalgam that is Joan’s background. Joan Sharp works with clients on their vision, paying close attention to their beliefs, to what inspires them, and to their imagination for the future. She assists clients in how to use their human talent and financial resources to make confident choices that achieve their vision, support their values, and establish their legacy. With an understanding of the different communication needs and styles that can arise between advisors regarding wealth management, Joan uses an integrative approach. Personal values differ for each person. Cindy Arledge shares on Systems that help to grow consciousness of the family

Cindy Arledge shares on Systems that help to grow consciousness of the family About Cindy Arledge: https://cindyarledge.com/about/ Strong families create strong communities. I am passionate about helping families thrive because I know what it's like to think you have an advantage, and then watch it disappear. It’s been fifteen years since my parents passed away eight months apart. Sadly, much of the real estate they spent a life time accumulating is already gone. What happened to us isn’t unusual, it happens more often than not. The good news is, there is a better way! To protect my children and grandchildren, I discovered the best kept secret hiding in plain sight. More importantly, I implemented what I learned. My passion is to help your family create a Legacy Plan to prepare them to manage shared assets. After writing and publishing a series of best-selling books I began offering group training programs and custom solutions for individual families.  Ultimately, my mission is to certify other professionals to do what I do, and see Legacy Planning become a recognized industry. Take it from someone who has been there, it’s easier to prevent problems than cure them. Legacy Planning is the secret to keeping your wealth in the family.  I believe the best way to help people is by working with them where they are to discover and implement a plan to quickly impact their lives now and secure their family’s long-term future.

Jan Willem Poot shares on Mental Wellbeing and The Yes We Can Youth Clinics About: Yes We Can Youth Clinics founder and CEO Jan Willem Poot runs a Netherlands-based specialist treatment centre for 13 to 25-year-olds suffering from an array of mental health issues, addictions and related behavioural disorders. ‘Every day, I am proud to make a difference for the teenagers and young adults and their families,’ Poot tells Spear’s. ‘Our unconditional love and belief in the youngsters keeps on motivating me to reach out to and help as many young people as possible.’ Over the past 10 years, as demand for the unique 10-week Yes We Can residential treatment programme has grown, Poot has expanded the firm into a world-leading treatment centre. The firm employs over 330 professionals, the highest staff to client ratio in Europe. More than 5,000 young people have been through the programme to date, while the team has grown tenfold, with the clinic operating consistently at capacity. Poot himself spent over a decade in and out of treatment until, aged 27, he finally found a centre that clicked. ‘My own experiences with mental healthcare have always served as my strongest motivation in creating the unique environment and approach of Yes We Can,’ he says. ‘By getting in to recovery, my life was given a very fortunate second chance. I learned that if I want to keep what I received, I have to give it away every day.’ The clinic offers an intensive English-speaking residential treatment programme and tailor-made aftercare. Fellows learn to acknowledge their problems, to get to the root of these problems, how to ask for help and how to deal with the issues they are facing. It’s ‘a warm and loving treatment programme and approach, balanced with confronting them at the right moment,’ explains Poot.
