A warm welcome to my video.  Here you will learn what causes you to be triggered and how EMDR can help.  You will also come to understand how EMDR therapy replicates REM sleep and the importance of REM sleep on your well-being.  This is important to you because triggers are disruptive to our lives, relationships, performance and over all wellbeing.  Hi, my name is Tim Ervin and I’m an EMDR trained therapist, Board certified coach, and hypnotherapist.  I help people rewire negative self-beliefs that hinder them from living fully.  Please enjoy and as usual I’m open to questions and feedback. Let’s get started. So, we all have experienced being triggered.  That strong emotional feeling that floods our senses when we hear or experience something triggering.  Here you will learn what it means to be triggered, what are the causes, and what’s happening in the brain.

Creating the protective circle for added safety, confidence, and well being.

Circle of supportive figures:  You can increase the feeling of protection by imagining a circle of protection comprised of all your protector figures. This can be used during times when you feel vulnerable and afraid and wish to feel your protectors more fully. You can also draw your circle of protection. Draw yourself surrounded by your protectors. Drawing can serve to reinforce the feeling of protection. Viewing your drawing can provide you with a sense of protection when you need it. You can also tap as you look at it.

They may be real people or fictional characters who symbolize strength and protection. These figures are called upon to create a sense of safety an shield the client from harm while working through distressing memories.

CIRCLE OF supportive figures; You can increase the feeling of protection by imagining a circle of protection comprised of all your protector figures. Core inner strength is the resource that has made it possible for you to face the difficulties your life has presented you. Somehow, you have been able to cope with painful circumstances and have kept going. By tapping in your core inner strength, you can more easily access it as a resource during times of need. 

Think of a time when you were able to move forward despite great difficulties.  

Remember how you were able to accomplish something even though life has thrown you a curve ball.

Learn to connect to peace and security when your life feels disrupted. This meditation uses EMDR techniques to teach you to calm yourself when feeling panicky and afraid.  The peaceful place is a resource you can develop and “tap in” so that you can calm yourself and reduce anxiety. It is one of the resources used most often for this purpose. The peaceful place is somewhere you feel safe and protected.
