LIGHTS UP!Oct 19, 2020

BONUS - TIGHTROPE by Rob Smith
A young boy learns to handle the stresses of being a teenager, having an overbearing grandfather, a dying father and a mother doing her best to keep it together. A touching play about how our imagination is not only a source of comfort and escape, but also the way some learn to cope and learn.

Ellis Stephens, Libby Lindsey, Bruce Shaw

Review of Rob's play DUST which premiered in Chicago. ETC consequently presented this play in the fall of 2018.

BONUS - GRENADINE by Neil Wechsler
As part of it's bimonthly radio program, The ETC Digital Theatre Hour on WUTC 88.1 FM (an NPR affiliate station), The Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga presented Neil Wechsler's play GRENADINE. "GRENADINE is pure fun, it is fantastically delicious, engagingly imaginative and even pushes the button of your heart. While simple in story, it is massive in the message of not taking oneself or one's journey too seriously," mentions Garry Lee Posey (ETC's founder and executive artistic director)
The play follows a group of cohorts on a journey to find the long lost love of one of that group's life. It is a journey that introduces the group to a host of challenges and characters while challenging their connection to each other and their connection to the world. "The play ends with such a dramatic sensibility that you never see coming," mentions Posey.
The cast includes:
Gage Goza as PRISMATIC
Jacob Moore as SCONCE
Courtenay Cholovich as PYX
Christopher Hrozencik-Snyder as GROVE
Casey Keelen as FEMALE ENSEMBLE
Amir Andalib as MALE ENSEMBLE
Garry Lee Posey as MALE ENSEMBLE

BONUS - FOUR SHORTS by Garry Lee Posey
For several years, Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga presented a series of original works written by local playwrights conceived by and performed in front pieces of art at the Hunter Museum of American Art. We called this performance CASTING THE CANVAS. "It was an experiment of mixing mediums in an effort to showcase how the different ways individuals can experience visual art. Our writers included established playwrights, novice playwrights, fiction writers and willing enthusiasts with no prior writing experience."
Six to Eight scripts were curated, rehearsed and performed throughout the museum. A guide would lead the audiences to each of the galleries housing the art where the play would be performed with the art creating the backdrop. Three of the four plays in this series by playwright Garry were included in various Casting the Canvas events, they are:

INSULTED BELARUS Act Two
Today on Lights Up, we present the third of a three part series.
If you haven't been following the atrocities happening in Belarus over the rigged election of Alexander Lukashenka, known as the last European dictator, then prepare yourself for quite the story. If you are aware of what is happening in Belarus, then prepare yourself for a story that is part documentary, part creative license, but fully rooted in a live and still developing narrative.
INSULTED BELARUS by Andrei Kureichik has been translated into English by John Freedman. Together the two of them have been disseminating this play across the world. 190 events involving a reading of the play to date, over 25 translations in 23 different countries, with 43 having happened already in the United States. This play is part of a revolution in a country where democracy doesn't really exist. In a country where artists have been forced from the counties, where opposition candidates are thrown in jail as enemies of the state preventing them the opportunity to run for President. In a country where riot police, from another country, enforce the laws of a man who refuses to give up control.
Part One:
Interview with John Freedman by Dana Colagiovanni and Garry Posey
Part Two:

Lights Up - Season One Finale
For our Lights Up season one finale episode, we asked some of our playwrights to write a monologue about what they wanted bring into focus for the new year. Then we matched the monologue with and actor and created a nice study of the human spirit.
We thank you for listening to us and we would love to encourage to become a monthly sponsor here on Anchor or visit our website and learn about the other ways that you can sponsor Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga and the Lights Up Podcast. 2021 will usher in some exciting projects for ETC including the launching of least two new podcasts to join the Lights Up family: Lights Up, Jr featuring playwrights 18yo and younger and SPEAK UP featuring actors in a similar way to how we feature playwrights.
If you want to submit to be an actor or have your monologue or play performed, shoot us a message at lightsup@ensembletheatreofchattanooga.com or follow us on twitter @etofc and Instagram @ensemble_theatre_of_chatt
