This episode of “Nurturing Well-Being with Kurt Kelly” features Rep. Rick Roth of Palm Beach County. We recently honored Rep. Roth as 2021 House Legislator of the Year for his efforts to support children and families receiving services from Florida’s system of care. He is a champion for children who believes in our community-based care model and aims to strengthen it.

This episode of “Nurturing Well-Being with Kurt Kelly” features Sen. Jason Brodeur of Seminole County. Brodeur, who served in the Florida House from 2010-2018, was elected to the Florida Senate in 2020. Adopted as a child, he brings a comprehensive and consequential perspective to the child-welfare conversation in Florida.

Sen. Brodeur says he wants to focus the debate at the state Capitol on the most critical issues facing Floridians, including the well-being of children and families.

“I think what we really need to be doing is making sure that the poor child who got yanked away from their parents at four o’clock in the morning — using a garbage bag as a suitcase, not knowing where they’re going — that’s the only thing we should be concerned about.”

This week’s episode of “Nurturing Well-Being with Kurt Kelly” features Florida Rep. Spencer Roach — a retired military officer who has dedicated much of his life to public service and helping children. He has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, taught financial literacy to teens aging out of foster care, helped foster children in court as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, and earned a license to become a foster parent. As a state legislator from Lee County, he wants to unite his colleagues to do more for kids in care: “I think universally we agree, Republicans or Democrats, that the measure of any advanced society is how we care for the most vulnerable members of society. I think that issue unites us in a bipartisan manner. It’s not partisan.”

We’re excited to share this episode of “Nurturing Well-Being with Kurt Kelly,” featuring Florida Rep. Patricia Williams. She's served as a foster parent and been a motivated mom, who stepped into the political arena for one main reason: “I want to be a ray of sunshine in a child's life.”
