Catechism LIVE: "Forgiveness" ~ The Lord's Prayer (5th Petition)
4/7/2022 - Small Catechism LIVE devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Lord's Prayer • 5th Petition
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
What does this mean?
We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look at our sins, or deny our prayer because of them. We are neither worthy of the things for which we pray, nor have we deserved them, but we ask that He would give them all to us by grace, for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment. So we too will sincerely forgive and gladly do good to those who sin against us.

Catechism LIVE: "Daily Bread: Every Day!" ~ The Lord's Prayer (4th Petition)
3/24/2022 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Lord's Prayer • 4th Petition
The Fourth Petition
Give us this day our daily bread.
What does this mean?
God certainly gives daily bread to everyone without our prayers, even to all evil people, but we pray in this petition that God would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.
What is meant by daily bread?
Daily bread includes everything that has to do with the support and needs of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home, land, animals, money, goods, a devout husband or wife, devout children, devout workers, devout and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, self-control, good reputation, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.

Catechism LIVE: "Thy Will Be Done" ~ The Lord's Prayer (3rd Petition)
3/3/2022 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Lord's Prayer • 3rd Petition
~~
The Third Petition
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What does this mean?
The good and gracious will of God is done even without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may be done among us also.
How is God's will done?
God’s will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God’s name or let His kingdom come; and when He strengthens and keeps us firm in His Word and faith until we die. This is His good and gracious will.

Catechism LIVE: "Under His Kingdom" ~ The Lord's Prayer (2nd Petition)
2/24/2022 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Lord's Prayer • 2nd Petition
~~
Thy kingdom come.
What does this mean?
The kingdom of God certainly comes by itself without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may come to us also.
How does God's kingdom come?
God's kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His holy Word and lead godly lives here in time and there in eternity.

Catechism LIVE: "How is God’s Name Profaned?" ~ The Lord's Prayer (1st Petition)
2/17/2022 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Lord's Prayer • 1st Petition
~~
The First Petition
Hallowed be Thy name.
What does this mean?
God’s name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also.
How is God’s name kept holy? God’s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God’s Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father!

Catechism LIVE: "Resurrection of the Body and Life Everlasting" ~ Apostles' Creed (Article 3)
1/20/2022 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Apostles' Creed • Article 3
~~
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
What does this mean?
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.
In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.
This is most certainly true.

Catechism LIVE: "Everlasting Righteousness, Innocence, and Blessedness" ~ Apostles' Creed (Article 2)
11/11/2021 ~ Small Catechism Live Devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Apostles' Creed • Article 2
~~
And [I believe] in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord,
who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death,
that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.

that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.
This is most certainly true.

Catechism LIVE: "Jesus Is God" ~ Apostles' Creed (Article 2)
9/23/2021 - Small Catechism LIVE devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Apostles' Creed • Article 2
~~
And [I believe] in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
What does this mean?

Catechism LIVE: "All this... why?" ~ Apostles' Creed (Article 1)
9/9/2021 - Small Catechism LIVE devotion by Pastor Ernie Jeong
Apostles' Creed • Article 1
~~
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
What does this mean?
I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.
He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.
He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil.
All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him.
This is most certainly true.

Joyfully Lutheran: Confession of Our Sins
How Christians should be taught to confess
What is Confession?
Confession has two parts. First, that we confess our sins, and second, that we receive absolution, that is, forgiveness, from the pastor as from God Himself, not doubting, but firmly believing that by it our sins are forgiven before God in heaven.
What sins should we confess?
Before God we should plead guilty of all sins, even those we are not aware of, as we do in the Lord’s Prayer; but before the pastor we should confess only those sins which we know and feel in our hearts.
Which are these?
Consider your place in life according to the Ten Commandments: Are you a father, mother, son, daughter, husband, wife, or worker? Have you been disobedient, unfaithful, or lazy? Have you been hot-tempered, rude, or quarrelsome? Have you hurt someone by your words or deeds? Have you stolen, been negligent, wasted anything, or done any harm?

Joyfully Lutheran: What Does Baptism Indicate?
The Sacrament of Baptism: What Does Baptism Indicate?
What does such baptizing with water indicate?
It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.
Where is this written?
St. Paul writes in Romans chapter six: “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” (Rom. 6:4)

How can water do such great things?
Certainly not just water, but the word of God in and with the water does these things, along with the faith which trusts this word of God in the water. For without God’s word the water is plain water and no Baptism. But with the word of God it is a Baptism, that is, a life-giving water, rich in grace, and a washing of the new birth in the Holy Spirit, as St. Paul says in Titus, chapter three:
"He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying." (Titus 3:5–8)

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

God's kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His holy Word and lead godly lives here in time and there in eternity.

Hallowed be Thy name.
What does this mean?
God's name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also.
How is God's name kept holy?
God's name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God's Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father!

Joyfully Lutheran: Apostles' Creed - Third Article (Sanctification)

Joyfully Lutheran: Apostles' Creed: Second Article (Redemption)
This is most certainly true.

Joyfully Lutheran: Apostles' Creed - First Article (Creation)

Joyfully Lutheran: Close of the Commandments
Close of the Commandments
What does God say about these commandments?
He says: "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments." (Exodus 20:5-6)
What does this mean?
God threatens to punish all who break these commandments. Therefore, we should fear His wrath and not do anything against them. But He promises grace and every blessing to all who keep these commandments. Therefore, we should also love and trust in Him and gladly do what He commands.

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
This week we examine the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
1. The Nature of Baptism
What is Baptism?
Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God's command and combined with God's word.
Which is that word of God?
Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)
2. The Blessings of Baptism
What benefits does Baptism give?
It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.
Which are these words and promises of God?
Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:16)
3. The Power of Baptism
How can water do such great things?
Certainly not just water, but the word of God in and with the water does these things, along with the faith which trusts this word of God in the water. For without God's word the water is plain water and no Baptism.
This is a trustworthy saying." (Titus 3:5-8)

Lord's Prayer: Seventh Petition (But deliver us from evil.)
The Lord's Prayer: The Seventh Petition
But deliver us from evil.
What does this mean?
We pray in this petition, in summary, that our Father in heaven would rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this valley of sorrow to Himself in heaven.

God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice.
Lord's Prayer: Fourth Petition (Give us this day our daily bread)
The Lord's Prayer: The Fourth Petition

The Lord's Prayer: The Third Petition
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What does this mean?
The good and gracious will of God is done even without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may be done among us also.
How does God's kingdom come?
God’s will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God’s name or let His kingdom come; and when He strengthens and keeps us firm in His Word and faith until we die. The Lord's Prayer: The Second Petition

The Lord's Prayer: The First Petition
Hallowed be Thy name.
What does this mean?
God's name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also.
How is God's name kept holy?
God's name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God's Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father!

Lord's Prayer: Introduction (Our Father who art in heaven.)
This week we examine the introduction to The Lord's Prayer.
Our Father who art in heaven.
What does this mean?
With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and that we are His true children, so that with all boldness and confidence we may ask Him as dear children ask their dear father.

Apostles' Creed: 3rd Article (Holy Spirit)
This week we examine the third article of the Apostles' Creed.

Apostles' Creed: 2nd Article (Jesus, God's Son)
This week we examine the second article of the Apostles' Creed.
This is most certainly true.

Apostles' Creed: 1st Article (God the Father)
This week we examine the first article of the Apostles' Creed.

Small Catechism: Close of the Commandments
This week we examine the Close of the Commandments from Luther's Small Catechism.

Small Catechism: Introduction
Our faith as Lutherans can be summarized in the belief that we are saved from our sins by God's grace alone (Sola Gratia), through faith alone (Sola Fide), on the account of Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura). A great summary of the Lutheran faith can be found in Luther's Small Catechism. This series will go over the teachings in the catechism.
Please follow along. Both new believers and long time believers will benefit. It is always good to stay in the word, examine our faith, and grow in our faith. If you have any questions please comment on the videos and Pastor Jeong will respond to you as we take this journey together.
