Nothing ravages a heart like rejection. Has someone dear to you walked out of your life, leaving you in the ditch of despair, feeling devalued? Were you told, “You should never have been born. You were never wanted. You will never amount to anything”? When you feel painfully rejected by a special person, take comfort in these tender words: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (PSALM 34:18). At times you will be rejected, but that doesn’t make you a reject. You have a God-given purpose.

Instant Gratification is the the self sabotaging the tendency to give in to temptation of avoiding short-term pain, to indulge in fleeting pleasures, even though you know your choice will ultimately hurt you in the long run. High-stress environments and an instant gratification culture fuel addictive behavior. Hence, the Instant Gratification Trap. There is another, better way. Genesis starts on a mountain, and Revelation ends on a mountain, both with people in God’s presence. This is tov - good. There are many stories in the Bible of God meeting people on mountains. But it turns out that people are not so good at maintaining mountain moments. So Jesus comes, into our valley, and goes up the mountain of Calvary to be the human we could not be, and invites us into a new, way of life, to be tov and do tov and join in God’s tov plan - things as they should be.    www.freechurch.life

The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice Issac seems crazy, and a strange story for Father’s Day yet if we dig a little deeper, we find, in this mountain moment, a thread of TOV- the goodness of God.

Joshua prays a bold courageous thing - that God would literally stop the sun in the sky. He doesn't start with Dear Lord, and he doesn't end with amen. He doesn't even pray the right words scientifically. And yet, God invents the first PVR! What is your “Sun, stand still” prayer? As the Israelites enter the promised land, they rely on the testimony of what God has done to pave the way to new territories, they realign to the covenant, their shame is removed, they move from consumers to producers, and they come under the leadership of the commander of the Lords army. In Joshua 4, God told the Israelites to take stones from the dry river bed to set up a memorial, so that when the future generations asked about them, the story of God's power and kindness would be retold. Here are the people of God, with a promise ahead. But there is a problem between them and the promise - the Jordan river in flood! They have the presence of God, the priests of God, and the prompting from God. When Joshua responds in perfect faith, the people follow in obedience, and  the power of God is released to remove the problem, so that the people can walk through into the promise.
