Historian Interview: Author and Medieval Historian Dr. Hosler
Historian Interview: Author and Medieval Historian Dr. Hosler
Greetings, my fellow history lovers. Today we have our first historian interview on the channel. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. John D. Hosler and his latest book Jerusalem Falls: Seven Centuries of War and Peace. This was an exciting episode for me to do as I am always eager to learn and relearn history. In our discussion, Dr. Hosler explains that the history of Jerusalem in the antiquities and medieval periods changed. I learn about how Jerusalem during the early to mid-medieval period was a land of three religions and its story extending beyond the Crusader wars. An inciteful interview, full of jam-packed information, makes us reconsider the established narrative about the holy city during those seven centuries.
My guest: Dr. John Hosler is an award-winning historian of medieval warfare | a History professor with 23 years of experience at five universities | and a Media consultant whose past clients include The History Channel, NBC, Blackfin Productions, Zed Films, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation | Represented by The Stuart Agency, New York City
In addition to 60+ published essays and reviews, he is the author of four books: Jerusalem Falls: Seven Centuries of War and Peace The Siege of Acre, 1189-1191: Saladin, Richard the Lionheart, and the Battle that Decided the Third Crusade John of Salisbury: Military Authority of the Twelfth-Century Renaissance Henry II: a Medieval Soldier at War
And editor/co-editor of four more: Routledge Handbook on Medieval Military Strategy Seven Myths of Military History Military Cultures and Martial Enterprises in the Middle Ages: Essays in Honour of Richard P. Abels Where Heaven and Earth Meet: Essays on Medieval Europe in Honor of Daniel F. Callahan

The Sentimental Dead review
The Sentimental Dead review
Welcome fellow scribes and quill masters. Today we have another book review courtesy of Indie author Ravven White. This is a first for the channel as it is a Vampire story, but not your typical vampire storyline. In this world created by Ravven, we find the population divided between Vampires and humans. Within these two major groups are the elites and the turned. The turned are non-born vampires, those that have been transformed in some way or form. The titular character is Emile thorn, who, along with his company and best friend Ash hunts down monsters who seek the disrupt the balance between the two groups. Yet relics of Emiles past come to light and throw the hunter down a spiral of self-reflection and more. Are we born monsters? Or do we become them?
This book is not for the typical reader as the author does have trigger warnings for specific elements, yet if you can get past those, you will enjoy the story.

The Four Lands of Arravan Review
The Four Lands of Arravan Review
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, fellow scribes. Join me on this festive day of the year as we read and review The Four lands of Arravan by Autumn Amber. In the initial chapter, this book reminds me a lot of Avatar the Last Airbender in terms of the four clans, based solely upon the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air, as well as blending high fantasy themes. In addition, I am also getting subtle witcher vibes regarding the social-political instability between the Fae, those who can control the elements, and the humans on a tense footing with their magical neighbors. The book follows the event after the fated trinity war, and life is still rebuilding and healing. A fund and adventures read, I highly recommend you read it and support the author.

Silver Mercy Review
Silver Mercy Review
They say two is better than one. I have returned with another book review, this time from author _Autumn_Amber_'s. This book is called Silver Mercy, and boy, does this story have a tale to tell. According to the story: It is said that our world was created in a flash of fire. A Phoenix, an Ancient soul named Solaris, destined to die, collided with the barren earth and thus created what we know today. With its life force flowing through the planet's very core, it was reborn in the form of man. And Solaris’ spirit rose to the skies and sought refuge amongst his brothers and sisters, that, too, shone in the depth of space. But, it was not just humans that rose from the ashes. Another Bloodline ran alongside them. It harnessed abilities of great nature. They would soon come to be known as Gracers and their superiors. The Architects. If that does not grab your attention, I don't know what will. This first chapter sets the stage in early 19th century London, and we are introduced to the powerful families that live amongst the humans, living by their laws, but something changes the world, for both man and the world.

Besides discussing the book, Robert also explains the inspiration for the book which initially began as his master's thesis and eventually turned into a nonfiction book. He also talks about his father, who was a Korean War veteran who fought in the Battle of the Ch'ongch'on River which he also states was another reason to write his book, not only as a way to remember his dad, but also the men in his unit and many more who fought in America's Forgotten War. A truly informative session that is equal parts academic and casual.

Warm Bodies, Cold Iron Review
Warm Bodies, Cold Iron Review
Hello, Scribes. Today we have our first book review for Season 2. This comes courtesy of Rebecca Reddington who wanted a review on their latest novel Warm Bodies and Cold Irons. The Books summary is as followed: "All things considered, it was surprisingly easy to set up for a fae-banishing sex ritual in this mafia safe house." Rian Walsh seemed like a well-built if a bit archaic P.H.D. candidate, content to study books that belonged firmly in the realm of faerie tales. However, not everything is what it seems, especially when you're an Irish Mob member dealing with the Fair Folk. His new mission: save the girl from their clutches or all will be lost. Kelly Masterson just wanted to finish her degree and tromp around Irish fens. But when a scoundrel steals her paper, she goes to Walsh to 'clear things up.' One good cry and a mysterious death later, she has her paper back and gets credit where credit is due. She's determined to ask the stormy sexy Rian her part in this, but before she can, their idyllic night turns into a nightmare of blood and silver. Now Kelly and Rian are snowed in a safe house with the Fair Folk closing in. Will they learn how to create warmth in such a cold situation? Or will they freeze forever together?

Whistle in the Woods Book Review
Whistle in the Woods Book Review
Hello, my fellow Scribes. Today is another book review from author Mayer Cross. Cross's novel titled Whistle in the Woods is a young adult romance drama following the main character Phum Meldei. Though I typically don't read much from this genre, the author may win me over.
The book's summary: When Phum Meldei acts out in an attempt to fix her friend's relationship with the Japanese transfer, Fujiwara Youhei, the last thing she expects is for a scandal to sweep her head underwater. Fueled by public humiliation, her doubts on appearances and inner values begin to clash against the guilt of an attraction taking root. Youhei is a stranger, but one whose drifting smiles and melodies make him even harder to forget. Will Meldei abandon all she's guided about values, or sacrifice the possibility of what she's seeking all along-a reality of her own direction-knowing that both will share the same cost of heartbreak?

Artemis of the Dodekatheon Saga Book Review
Artemis of the Dodekatheon Saga Book Review
Hello, my fellow Scribes. Today I bring you another book review from Inkitt author Jaden Winchester otherwise known as J. Alleyn Winchester. Jaden's book entitled Artemis of the Dodekatheon Saga is a fantasy novel on Inkitt which follows the exploits of the main character, Artemis. A captivating story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this is one episode you do not want to miss.
The book's summary is as followed: In the wake of a nuclear war, the Graeco people emerge from Gaea’s womb to discover humanity’s destruction of the planet. Horrified, they react by stripping countries of power, confining survivors, and overseeing recovery efforts. Looking to the Vatican for leadership and support, the remaining humans grow closer to the Graeco, but the religious leaders are determined to keep the populations segregated. Those in favor of diversity are swiftly punished. But there is a rebellion afoot. A biracial faction emerges and is prepared to fight for their freedoms. With the lingering threat of war in the air, King Zeus V, the Graeco sovereign, is their only supporter, as he has chosen a human wife who has blessed him with a daughter named Artemis. But because of Artemis’ mixed-race heritage, the Temple of Delphi demands she be treated like the other biracial children. Artemis is forced to flee Castle Olympus and search for answers. While on the run, Artemis finds hope in a Catholic priest but is also sought after by a young resistance leader to enlist her to join their cause. But who is on her side and who is standing in her way? As the prophecy unfolds, Artemis must decide whether to fulfill her destiny before the last battle ends it all. Offering a diverse world that lovers of fantasy will readily immerse themselves in, Artemis of Dodekatheon explores the many facets of racial conflict and highlights the consequences of ignoring relevant lessons from the past.
