The Gaming Nexus Show

This week’s topic for The Gaming Nexus Show was difficulty. Our presentation today in three acts. Act one Eric talks about how hard it is to be good at video games, and even though he reviews games he’s not necessarily good at them. Act two Joe and Eric chat about the glory days of the original PlayStation era, back when games only had one difficulty. They break down their top five games from that system, with a bevy of honorable mentions (be sure to listen for Elliot’s top five at the top of the show). We round out the episode talking about the biggest gaming news of 2022 so far, Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard. How difficult will it be for Sony now that Microsoft owns an ever growing library of games?

Eric was once again allowed to pick the topic for this week’s show, he went with horses. We somehow found the gusto to put out three segments, some a little closer to the horse culture than others. We begin with a little end of the year chat about our favorite games of the year. And then Eric give us a tale of a knee replacement, and the game he will forever tie his recovery from it with. Elliot is joined by friend of the show Scott, of the Budget Arcade Podcast, to talk about horses and videogames. They both break down and end up talking about World of Warcraft. Finally Eric tests Joe's knowledge about the Atari era of video games.

Stuck at home with a room full of people you’re not super excited to see this Thanksgiving? Your weird uncle asleep on the couch? Want something time consuming without putting in any physical work? We may have the show for you. We have a heaping portion of The Gaming Nexus Show for you this week. This week our topic was press-start. Joseph found himself pushing start on a newly purchased PlayStation 5. And boy does he have opinions. He sat down with Eric to talk and tells the listeners if he thinks it’s worth trying to pick up one right now, or if you’re better off just waiting. Joseph wasn’t done giving you his opinion of things, and as such read his op-ed he wrote a few weeks back on gamingnexus.com. And finally Elliot and Eric talk about the recent stealth release of Halo Infinity’s multiplayer. Elliot comes from a background where he played the first handful of games almost religiously, and this was Eric’s first foray into the series. And not to shock anyone, they have different opinions of the release.

We are finally back! After a little hiatus The Gaming Nexus Show is back and better than ever. The Gaming Nexus Show is a podcast for people who like video games but want something a little different than the typical podcast. What does that mean? Well each episode we’re going to choose a word (or sentence if you’re Joe) and bring you some stories with that as a theme. This week’s theme is loyalty. We have three stories to share, one from Joe (who played Murder House) One from Eric and Aidan, and a little essay by Elliot about brand loyalty.

We did something a little special last week. The four of us had the opportunity to speak at a panel at GDEX? Not sure what GDEX is? Well it’s a, “convention dedicated to a love of games and creative technology, located in Columbus, Ohio.  GDEX features a weekend expo showcase, combined with presentation sessions, artist alleys, raffles, tournaments, and Charity events. The GDEX expo is a curated showcase of some of the most exciting up and coming developers so that you can see the latest games before anyone else!” We decided to record our panel as well and the results were better than I expected. The audio quality isn’t as great as our normal episodes, but still very listenable. Elliot and Eric bring two separate games with very similar rules. Joe shows us his improv chops to hilarious results, and Max does research for something he didn’t need to, but decides to share his findings anyway. 

Is it too late for Nintendo to add Bluetooth to the Switch? Does anyone care? Have you heard about this whole Epic vs Apple but find it confusing? Elliot tries to explain it to the best of his knowledge to the other three, with some mixed results. Joseph bails on the pod halfway through the episode, and Elliot is bullied into leaving it unedited, to hilarious results. Eric and Joseph talk about the Artful Escape and why everyone should play it. Max forgets what day of the week it is and brings nothing, absolutely nothing to the table.

We are back to our typical four man roster of Joseph, Max, Eric and Elliot. Joe brings up Nintendo and their unwillingness to let people play the games they want, the way they want to play them, sparking discussions about a number of different things. Eric gives a review for Life is Strange: True Colors which releases on September 10. Max didn’t do his homework this week and scrambles to give us the lore of the Kirby character Meta Knight. And because Elliot wanted to feel important we let him talk about Bus Simulator, and how it surprised him.

We’re moving our recording days from Tuesday nights to Wednesday nights. What else are we changing? Well for one, Max and Eric both bring a bit of news with them this week. No Joseph this week, so nothing gets too hot and bothered. Max talks about Steam’s refund policy for games, and potential fixes to it. Eric puts Kotaku on blast, after Kotaku puts Eric on blast earlier in the day.

Max had a great idea. Go to a brick and mortar video game store and buy the cheapest game they had and review it. We more or less (some of us a lot less) followed the directions. Come hear us get frustrated about the lack of titles to pick from, and judge for yourself which one of us really came out as the winner.

We also discuss Nintendo’s new OLED Switch, Sony charging $25,000 to make it on the front of their store page, and Nintendo attempting to collect on a court order fine that's not going so well.
