The most haunted house in a very haunted city.  The LaLaurie Mansion’s brutal history are stories for the ages.  Leading to the expected strong ghosts.

Halloween-time!  Kicking off the Halloween season with a special segment.  Not about sexy costumes, or drinking and partying.  But the roots of Halloween, in ghosts and superstition.  From its Celtic beginnings in Ireland.  Being manipulated by religion, and ending up with popular and fun beliefs in the United States of America.

Then, Daniel relives the horror of having his cape tugged during a Custom House Ghost Walk.  In the infancy of his Ghost Guide career.  Freaking out in-front of a group, and blaming a guest for doing it.  But it all makes sense... once you look at the active ghost of that hallway (see cover image).

Toronto centric episode! Starting with the city’s most popular mayor, and one of Canada’s biggest villains, William Lyon Mackenzie. Leader of the 1837 failed Rebellion. Toronto’s first mayor. But before all that, he lived in Dundas… a rebel’s town. Rumoured to have hidden in a cave on Sydenham Hill.

Thorold’s infamous haunt, The Screaming Tunnel. A historic train tunnel never used by any train. Believed to be an access point from some houses on the forested side of the tunnel to the main road. A great hiding place, for innocent activities. Or a horrifically violent act done by a drunk, rage-filled father.

But is the legend real? Daniel discusses the legitimacy of this story. Comparing it to a famous haunt from his own past. And another legend told to a local historian by the last surviving resident of the old forest village. Spoiler… not tragic at all.

Then it’s time to get all scientific! The occurrence of something called Pareidolia. Simply, it means the mind’s habit of turning objects into things we will recognized. Based upon our psyche. Possibly the reason why we see such amazing things in reflections, shadows and orbs. Oh my!

Hamilton’s Custom House is one of the most haunted buildings. It’s easy to talk about the Dark Lady or the Caretaker, but what about the Black Cat?

Located in Hamilton, Ont., the Silhouette publishes weekly from September to April with a circulation of 3,000. Production takes a break in December and is reduced during the summer months.

Daniel starts with a ghost story, strongly based on a real experience. The stories of staff in hospitals and nursing homes are legend. Never talked about for sensitivity reasons, but strong spirits all the same. So, it’s amazing to have a detailed story from inside a retirement residence.

A nurse, alone during the night shift. Forced to investigate a loud noise from down the hallway. And an encounter steeped in realism that’s hard to disprove.

Then it’s back to the “most haunted” house in all of the City of Toronto. The Mackenzie House’s stories are stuff of legend. Stemming from the rebellious former mayor who once called this place “prison”. And later from a caretaker couple who fled the house after 4 years of vivid ghostly experiences.

Daniel talks passionately about the stories. How the attempt to disprove them, unfairly lumped Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds (caretakers) into the hype around a fake and ridiculous stunt. Using ghosts as a way to drum up business.

But he doesn’t believe it! The caretakers stories hold water, and should be considered separate from the actions of a desperate museum curator.

The user question which led Daniel to the true ghost story behind the 80's classic horror movie, Poltergeist.  Under its other name, restlessness, he talks a bit about the believability of the movie.  Then going through the true experience from the 1950's in Long Island, New York.  Recognize Long Island?  Same region as a small town called, Amityville!  

Even though the movie does take deep liberties with the real story, there are similarities.  Especially when catching the attention of a Doctor of Parapsychology.  Yes, there was a Parapsychology department of Duke University in the 1950's.  

Then, it's vintage Ghost Walks story time.  Daniel reminisces about the tours inside Hamilton, Ontario's Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.  Inside the house and on the grand staircase.  The lesser known (yet completely beautiful) portrait of a woman in the white dress.  Maybe related to the female spirit which haunts the house.

The return of Edgar Mills, storyteller extraordinaire... described as part Hitchcock and all dark.  With a personal ghost story from a woman.  As a family friend passes away, a message passed through her daughter in the most terrifying of ways.

Breaking down posted ghost stories on the Internet #1.  All starting with the difference between legit and "over-the-top" ghost stories.  The love of ghost stories in general.  And not getting angry, just enjoying the ride.

Daniel breaks down his trip to Quebec City with history and ghosts. Passing through Kingston reminded him of a terrifying stay at Wolfe Manor, a very haunted house with strong ghost experience. And some tour updates including the heightened activity at Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Victorian House.

Daniel talks real history vs legends. Why legends are so much better, but should be taken with a grain of salt. Using examples from Ruthven (David the 1st vs the Little Boy), and leading to a new version of the Prince of Wales Hotel Legend in Niagara on the Lake. Then ending with the #3 haunt in Niagara… why Drummond Hill is the unicorn of cemeteries.

Dedicated to the many strong women ghosts in Hamilton (and Ottawa). Starting with a personal story shared on a Ghost Walk from inside Ottawa’s College of Surgeons. Then it’s back to Hamilton for some haunted shop talk, and the two most impressive ghosts in the city.

Daniel talks about the Haunted Accommodations Industry. The excitement of staying in haunted hotels and bed and breakfast houses. First proving his point for a quick Google search, “haunted places to stay”. Gotta start with the Canadian content. The Ottawa Jail topping the list. Only the Stanley Hotel (inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining) stood out on the American list.

Then talking about why haunted hotels and accommodations are so exciting. It’s all about getting that story. When friends ask, “How was your trip?” It’s not just the Jerk Chicken restaurant, but, “I stayed in the room that Stephen King wrote The Shining!” Braved the ghosts. And forever, when that place is mentioned anywhere, you’ll have these memories. Of course The Cecil Hotel in LA comes up.

All leading up to Daniel’s own experience in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. A historic B&B. A very creepy experience (his fault) where the ghosts of the house made themselves known in the craziest way (again, Daniel’s fault).
