Welcome to another episode of the Grim and Bloody podcast! Today we sit down with Christopher Moore - Writer and Director of Children of Sin . Christopher made a name for himself writing and directing Triggered which was a gem of indie horror that perfectly skewers the outright ridiculousness of extreme PC culture. 

Children of Sin takes on the religious sect that believes wayward children can be saved through rehab clinics. Sadly many of these clinics are fronts for various schemes to bilk susceptible people out of their money. A third of a way into this feature Chris flips the narrative on its bloody head and you have to hold on tight!

Synopsis: Ivonne is being harassed because of the mysterious death of her boyfriend Alex, better know as DÆSTRVCTO in the rap scene. Claudio, Alex’s twin brother and Ivonne’s lover, arrives to her appartement to tell her that guilt is killing him. Then, a supernatural presence manifests to claim revenge for all the acts and betrays that both have kept secret.

Andre Gower who played Sean in 1987's cult classic The Monster Squad and the follow-up documentary Wolfman's Got Nards stops by the show to talk about the eponymous children's monster movie of the late 80's. The Monster Squad is enjoying an ever-growing fan base and calls for a sequel continue to ring out. Andre stays busy with a number of productions in the works as well.

Trepidity is an independent horror film in the 80s slasher style. Now they find themselves trapped in a barn with a demon which leaps from character to character until it’s ready to kill. Not knowing who the demon is in, the friendships are put to the test. It’s a race to see who’ll survive until midnight.

On this episode of the Grim and Bloody Theater we talk about Blumhouse Production's Halloween trilogy which started in 2018 and finishes on October 14th with Halloween Ends. With John Carpenter's help Halloween reignited the franchise. Although Michael Meyers cannot never die, we eagerly anticipate the conclusion to this well done Blumhouse series.

Halloween is near and dear to our hearts. We can say with the utmost confidence that this iteration  of John Carpenter's horror slasher franchise is a cut above all the rest, save for the first two installments. If you haven't watched Halloween (2018) we strongly recommend doing so. Not only did Blumhouse convince John Carpenter to return but we get to watch Jamie Lee Curtis  as  Laurie Strode again. In this episode of the Grim and Bloody Theater - Veteran producer Frank Farel stops by the show to talk about the supernatural hit Spookies from 1986.  Frank speaks candidly about the trouble releasing the film according to his vision, the comprehensive re-release by Vinegar Syndrome, and his thoughts on Spookies gaining a cult following since its release.  

Synopsis:  After their car breaks down, a group of travelers find themselves stranded in a remote part of New England. After taking shelter in a spooky old mansion, complete with a graveyard, they discover a Ouija board and decide to spend the night attempting to summon some spirits. But the group soon learns that playing with the forces of black magic isn't fun and games, and it's not long before they're head-to-head with all sorts of demonic creatures, shape shifters, and other forms of evil, all of whom are more than happy to pick them off in the most gruesome of ways.

We were beyond excited to preview two new shock doc specials on discovery+ today February 18th with executive producer Tom Jennings. We cover the two new specials Alien Abduction: Barney and Betty Hill, and Alien Abduction: Travis Walton. 

 Barney and Betty Hill stands as the first real report of Alien Abduction. Contrary to what you may have seen in the past Tom Jennings and 1895 Films promises to reveal the complete and unfettered story never before seen! This will be an event to remember.

Ready for some more Blacula? We know you are! William Marshall is back, and he brings Pam Grier with him in Scream Blacula Scream, 1973's sequel to the Blaxploitation hit Blacula. As before, William Marshall's performance raises this film above the standard faire Blaxploitation films of the 70's. His turn as the Nigerian Prince Mamuwalde is both gripping and tragic. Sadly the two films share very little narrative tissue beyond the titular character. By refusing to build on the emotional impact in Blacula's ending we are given a film where the support characters succumb to familiar tropes which ultimately dulls the story. Nevertheless, William Marshall and Pam Grief turn in A-list performances making Scream Blacula Scream a tolerable sequel.

When Virus premiered in 1980 it was the biggest product in Japan's history. An Adaptation on Sakyo Komatsu's novel Fukkatsu no hi the movie starred Masao Kusakari, Sonny Chiba, George Kennedy and Robert Vaughn. The film is a harrowing take involving a man-made virus that springs into the wild during a period of political and military unrest between the United States and the Soviet Union.

A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole and has now returned, but with someone or something new on-board. That is the synopsis for Paul W.S. Anderson's follow-up to the Mortal Kombat live action adaptation: a  exceptionally fun and gory sci-fi horror flick starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, and Jason Issacs. Even better, Shout! Factory recently released an Event Horizon Collector's Edition with a slew of new interviews with cast and crew along with a 4K scan of the original camera negative. If you have followed their past efforts you know this will be the best version of Event Horizon on the market.

It's always enlightening for us to hear about what happens behind the camera throughout the ages of cinema. John T. Sweeney stopped by the Grim and Bloody Podcast and does just that! As Kevin Nickelson later described the show: "John was a hoot and a half with a few salty stories working as production coordinator on films like Alien vs. Predator, Hellboy and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In a first time deviation from the ordinary talk of horror movies, we talk about COVID and I speak extensively about my near death experience."

COVID-19 has taken a sledgehammer to almost everything, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. More and more stories surface regarding the virus and our collective experiences. We feel thankful that we can share them because that means we survived to tell the tale.

Nikhil returns with key parts of the crew that made it happen. The Grim and Bloody Podcast sat down with Nikhil Bhagat and we talked about the fantastic short horror film The Wheel, set to be released this February. 

The short film finds a woman, played by Molly Buecher, alone in a house while her husband is on a trip shopping for antiques to sell in their shop. When he sends home an old toy ferris wheel (made from parts of the original ferris wheel no less!) the couple has no idea the terror that is about to be unleashed.

For those who haven't heard of Nikhil Bhagat - his equally as impressive short As They Continue To Fall has now been picked up for a feature adaptation by James Wan and Eric Heisserer!

Michael Dougherty 2015's holiday horror film Krampus starring Toni Collette and Adam Scott is a cult classic which re-emerges from the frozen depths every holiday season. It's packed with stellar performances, an engaging story, and some of the best practical effects done by Weta Workshop. Very much like Trick R Treat, Michael Dougherty weaves a cautionary tale about what happens when you lose the Christmas spirit. Al Omega and Joe Flynn join DPFF Founder Anthony DeRouen as they delve into the shadow of Saint Nick - Krampus!

Death's Parade Film Festival and the Grim and Bloody Podcast

The Evil, written and directed by Gus Trikonis, is very much a product of its time.  There's a light-hearted campiness to The Evil one can appreciate from the time of disco fever and bellbottoms which eventually would ebb away as we crossed into the 1980's and experienced bone-chilling supernatural films such as The Shining, The Fog and Poltergeist. As the Halloween season rages on we're back with another spooktacular episode featuring Mitch McLeod, writer and director of the horror drama Silhouette.  Currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Silhouette will be undergoing a name change to A Haunting in Texas before it's debut on the media shelves of Wal Mart stores nationwide! Obviously an exciting time for Mitch, the cast and crew of Silhouette we couldn't be more excited to see this dark and disturbing paranormal tale receive a massive home video release.  Look for A Haunting in Texas at Wal Mart starting November 17th, and tune into the podcast to hear about the behind the scene stories!
