It Came from the Bay Area...Ben Monroe - Author of The Seething

It Came from the Bay Area...Ben Monroe - Author of The Seething

Ben Monroe is no stranger to horror fiction, having written a number of frightful stories including a memorable contribution to Tales for the Campfire a charity anthology whose benefits were sent to the victims of the 2018 Camp Fire. Ben writes with the type of prose similar to Stephen King -- you can easily relate to his characters and follow a complex narrative -- which makes The Seething a standout novel. Outside of his recently published work we also talk about writing horror in the San Francisco Bay Area, his experience with the Horror Writer's Association, and the impact of working alongside fellow indie writers can have.

Christopher Moore - Writer and Director of Children of Sin

Christopher Moore - Writer and Director of Children of Sin

Welcome to another episode of the Grim and Bloody podcast! Today we sit down with Christopher Moore - Writer and Director of Children of Sin . Christopher made a name for himself writing and directing Triggered which was a gem of indie horror that perfectly skewers the outright ridiculousness of extreme PC culture.

Children of Sin takes on the religious sect that believes wayward children can be saved through rehab clinics. Sadly many of these clinics are fronts for various schemes to bilk susceptible people out of their money. A third of a way into this feature Chris flips the narrative on its bloody head and you have to hold on tight!

Jamison Locascio and Adam Ambrosio - the Filmmakers Behind Know Fear and How Dark They Prey

Welcome back horror fans to another episode of the Grim and Bloody Podcast! It's always fun to speak with filmmakers who were inspired by John Carpenter and H. P. Lovecraft. Two of our favorite sources for horror and thriller. They might be young, but Jamison Locascio and Adam Ambrosio have a solid horror foundation which is evident during the discussion. They know what scares audiences and can apply the trade. Both of their features Know Fear ( 2021) and How Dark They Prey ( 2022) are available for streaming through Tubi.

Live from Creep IE Con 2023!

Live from Creep IE Con 2023!

The Grim and Bloody Podcast made the pilgrimage to Ontario California to revel in all that was Creep IE Con's second year of convention going. Fans were treated to an impressive guest list including Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Lee Waddell, Lauren LaVera, David Howard Thornton, Damien Leone, Alex Winter, Ryan Hurst, Tom Payne, Bill Moseley, Bob Elmore and many more.

We sat down with a few unique vendors and got their take on the convention. This was an incredible gathering by Brian, the showrunner. The aisles were packed with fest goers and the immense hall emanated the same type of energy you feel at the bigger cons like SDCC.

The first segment includes the talents behind Geekz N Dreamz: Jason, Manny, Charlie,  and Jimmy. Geekz N Dreamz has something for everyone, but their specialty is props and highly detailed dioramas. Visit them at https://www.etsy.com/shop/geekzNdreamz

Next, we bring you Malvolia the Queen of Screams (look for the upcoming Halloween Horrors dvd special!) . A wonderful horror hostess that has built a strong following of short film and B-movie enthusiasts, and will be featured on the Grim and Bloody show on a future date. Visit her show at  https://www.youtube.com/c/malvoliathequeenofscreams and on Instagram - @queenmalvolia. Dustin Ferguson of SCS Entertainment was also on hand displaying his wide selection of films, and actor Charles Chudabala was on hand to provide some spice. Follow him at @charliechuda (starts around 08:30:00).

You didn't ask for it, but you got it: our exclusive interview with Michael Meyers himself! (parody with well dressed @aalexx.cb, thanks for being a good sport!) You can catch a photo of us on our Instagram showing proof we stood next to The Shape and kinda lived to tell about it.  (starts around 17:05:00)

And to close out the show we sit down with Elizabeth Yoder and James Dorney to talk about their upcoming suspense thriller Rangers.

AcroStar Films Newest Horror Film - Desperate Souls

AcroStar Films Newest Horror Film - Desperate Souls

We're a big fan of AcroStar Films.  They push themselves to make films not easily found elsewhere, touching on subjects other filmmakers shy away from. They have a proven track record of success on the film festival circuit, but are not satisfied with past accomplishments. Desperate Souls is that next step for AcroStar: a practical-effects driven demon film boasting impressive performances by a fresh and young cast. S.J. Hermann and Ann Myrna return along with cast members Joe Rosing and Jake Yanko.

AcroStar  is in the winding hours of an Indiegogo campaign for Desperate Souls , so there's still time to donate and reap some cool rewards. Head on over to https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/desperate-souls-horror-romance-film#/ .

2022: The Year in Review in Horror and More

2022: The Year in Review in Horror and More

Another year has gone, but which has left us with a number of excellent horror films to experience. We sit down and talk about the ones we felt stood out and why. In 2022 Ethan Hawke returned to horror in Black Phone. David Howard Thornton donned the creepy clown costume in Terrifier 2, a definite step up from the first film. TI West thrilled us with X and Pearl. Zach Cregger made his presence known with Barbarian. And what about Rob Jabbaz's visceral, blood-dripping zombie film The Sadness? Jordan Peele's Nope and Parker Finn's Smile make the list as well. We can't forget (or maybe we're trying to forget) David Gordon Green's final installment in the latest Halloween trilogy, a divisive film to say the least.

And we're proud to announce submissions are open fore the 2023 Death's Parade Film Festival! We are returning to the Prime Cinemas in Red Bluff California this October.

Acrostar Films are back with It Came From Somewhere - a satirical spoof of the 1950's sci fi and horror epics. Drawing inspiration from Mystery Science Theater 3000, Teenagers from Outer Space to be exact, Acrostar Films went to work making a family friendly film audiences are bound to enjoy. As Acrostar says, "Created in the style of Ed Wood and Roger Corman, It Came from Somewhere is a new, original feature length horror film that looks like it was created in the 1950s. Catch It Came From Somewhere on DVD this week.

We Discuss the Blumhouse Productions Halloween Trilogy

We Discuss the Blumhouse Productions Halloween Trilogy

On this episode of the Grim and Bloody Theater we talk about Blumhouse Production's Halloween trilogy which started in 2018 and finishes on October 14th with Halloween Ends. With John Carpenter's help Halloween reignited the franchise. Although Michael Meyers cannot never die, we eagerly anticipate the conclusion to this well done Blumhouse series.

Halloween is near and dear to our hearts. We can say with the utmost confidence that this iteration  of John Carpenter's horror slasher franchise is a cut above all the rest, save for the first two installments. If you haven't watched Halloween (2018) we strongly recommend doing so. Not only did Blumhouse convince John Carpenter to return but we get to watch Jamie Lee Curtis  as  Laurie Strode again. Isn't that worth the price of admission?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Retrospective

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Retrospective

When strange seeds drift to earth from space, mysterious pods begin to grow and invade San Francisco, California, where they replicate the residents into emotionless automatons one body at a time. Jack Finney's Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a story told on rinse and repeat with varying results. Philip Kaufman's 1978 effort stands out as a crowd favorite (no disrespect to Don Siegel's 1956 memorable take). Donald Sutherland stars as a local Health Inspector who begins to witness strange occurrences and manages to stay one step ahead of the invasion until the end. So sit back and enjoy of our review of the horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers!

Interview with Documentary Journalist Tom Jennings: Two discovery+ Shock Docs Special Previews

We were beyond excited to preview two new shock doc specials on discovery+ today February 18th with executive producer Tom Jennings. We cover the two new specials Alien Abduction: Barney and Betty Hill, and Alien Abduction: Travis Walton.

Barney and Betty Hill stands as the first real report of Alien Abduction. Contrary to what you may have seen in the past Tom Jennings and 1895 Films promises to reveal the complete and unfettered story never before seen! This will be an event to remember.

Travis Walton's experience was met with great amounts of skepticism. Through it all he maintains the abduction happened, and there might enough evidence linking his account to Barney and Betty Hill's to make us reconsider.

Scream Blacula Scream (1973): Part Two of our Blacula Franchise Retrospective!

Scream Blacula Scream (1973): Part Two of our Blacula Franchise Retrospective!

Ready for some more Blacula? We know you are! William Marshall is back, and he brings Pam Grier with him in Scream Blacula Scream, 1973's sequel to the Blaxploitation hit Blacula. As before, William Marshall's performance raises this film above the standard faire Blaxploitation films of the 70's. His turn as the Nigerian Prince Mamuwalde is both gripping and tragic. Sadly the two films share very little narrative tissue beyond the titular character. By refusing to build on the emotional impact in Blacula's ending we are given a film where the support characters succumb to familiar tropes which ultimately dulls the story. Nevertheless, William Marshall and Pam Grief turn in A-list performances making Scream Blacula Scream a tolerable sequel.

We Discuss Virus (1980) Along with Our Favorite Disaster Movies

When Virus premiered in 1980 it was the biggest product in Japan's history. An Adaptation on Sakyo Komatsu's novel Fukkatsu no hi the movie starred Masao Kusakari, Sonny Chiba, George Kennedy and Robert Vaughn. The film is a harrowing take involving a man-made virus that springs into the wild during a period of political and military unrest between the United States and the Soviet Union.

We tackle other disaster stories which bring about the end of the world or leave enough clues to keep us awake at night! These films include, 2012, Threads, The Thing (naturally!), Deep Impact and Armageddon.

We Discuss the 1997 Horror Sci-Fi Classic Event Horizon

A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole and has now returned, but with someone or something new on-board. That is the synopsis for Paul W.S. Anderson's follow-up to the Mortal Kombat live action adaptation: a  exceptionally fun and gory sci-fi horror flick starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, and Jason Issacs. Even better, Shout! Factory recently released an Event Horizon Collector's Edition with a slew of new interviews with cast and crew along with a 4K scan of the original camera negative. If you have followed their past efforts you know this will be the best version of Event Horizon on the market.

Join Al Omega, Joe Flynn and Anthony DeRouen as we talk about Event Horizon's production problems, it's performance in theaters, and its subsequent cult following which prompted Amazon to develop a TV series adaptation. Whether the world even needs an Event Horizon TV series is not for us to decide, but we'll give it a shot anyways.

A Conversation with Producer John T. Sweeney

A Conversation with Producer John T. Sweeney

It's always enlightening for us to hear about what happens behind the camera throughout the ages of cinema. John T. Sweeney stopped by the Grim and Bloody Podcast and does just that! As Kevin Nickelson later described the show: "John was a hoot and a half with a few salty stories working as production coordinator on films like Alien vs. Predator, Hellboy and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In a first time deviation from the ordinary talk of horror movies, we talk about COVID and I speak extensively about my near death experience."

COVID-19 has taken a sledgehammer to almost everything, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. More and more stories surface regarding the virus and our collective experiences. We feel thankful that we can share them because that means we survived to tell the tale.

In other news, Kevin has a new piece of writing out! It's his first non-horror article, "A look at Agatha Christie" in the 70's for the magazine Cinema of the 70's. The issue will be available between March 7th- 10th.

Murray Abraham. So join Al Omega, Joe Flynn, and Anthony DeRouen as they discuss what made Thirteen Ghosts a stand out movie among a slate of commercially successful titles under Dark Castle Entertainment's belt, aspects that could have lifted its narrative further, and why Steve Beck's follow up effort Ghost Ship was equally as enjoyable.

Michael Dougherty 2015's holiday horror film Krampus starring Toni Collette and Adam Scott is a cult classic which re-emerges from the frozen depths every holiday season. The Evil (1978) : A Retrospective

The Evil (1978) : A Retrospective

The Evil, written and directed by Gus Trikonis, is very much a product of its time.  There's a light-hearted campiness to The Evil one can appreciate from the time of disco fever and bellbottoms which eventually would ebb away as we crossed into the 1980's and experienced bone-chilling supernatural films such as The Shining, The Fog and Poltergeist. The Evil is a fast-paced haunted house flick that can easily fall under the radar of contemporary horror aficionados, but didn't miss Joe Flynn and Al Omega's gaze as their reach in the genre stretches further than most. Sit back and enjoy our spoiler-free review of The Evil!
