How to Make the Perfect Career - Panel Talk
Enjoyed the @ypthrive impact talk. I had several takeaways from the panelists and the conversations. Most questions did not have a one size fits all solution. Everyone is unique so the journey is unique.
A quick summary is below.
1. Personal development. The best investment we can make is in ourselves. Everyone had a different way about doing this.
My learning has evolved over the years as a lot of my development comes from every day life. I still lean into reading and course work.
We spoke about reading and the importance of ideas and perspectives. Leaders take advantage of coaching, courses, and communities to grow.
My favorite book is definitely Shoe Dog.
2. Mentorship. We talked about finding mentors and also getting to a point where confident to share what we know.
We discussed becoming the mentor. That said the secret is that everyone is still learning and striving.
This is a life-long process regardless of industry. In fact sharing more of what we know accelerates our growth.
There won't be a magic moment when this switch happens from follower to leader. The truth is you can start where you are now.
3. Life. The topic of work life balance came up and everyone agreed that family is a critical part of the journey.
There will be difficult decisions to make and we all have different ways of handling.
We can always do more but what are we doing with what we have? How do we make the time we have count?
I pondered these questions after.
What are your top ways that you develop your career? Leave your strategy in the comments. :)

Episode 106: How To Be A Successful Artist - Interview With Norman Wyatt Jr
Artist Norman Wyatt Jr. seems to have always been involved in the Fine Arts. As early as the second grade, he would travel once a week to the area high school to sit under the gifted art instructor, surrounded by juniors and seniors. This passion would later lead Norman to pursue Fine Art at Virginia State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications, Art and Design. Much of Norman’s inspiration comes from his early years and past professional experiences. As a native of Virginia, Norman grew up captivated by the colors and sounds of nature. As a senior in college, Norman worked at an African-inspired gift shop, constantly surrounded by authentic sculptures, fabrics, and jewelry. After finishing college, Wyatt worked as an elementary art teacher, instructing kindergarten through fourth grade students. He would reach the imaginations of his young pupils by constantly adorning the classroom and halls with bright, energetic bulletin boards. Norman actually developed many of his signature techniques and looks during breaks from classes. ” I had a long table set up in the corner of my classroom, where I created numerous landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts, to keep myself painting. After a while, I realized that I had developed a look that was different or interesting enough to show a fine art publisher.” Wyatt equates being an artist to a sponge, constantly absorbing everything visually, to ressurect for later use. He loves the gift of being an artist, never taking it for granted. Norman lives in Virginia with his wife and three children.

Episode 99: The Esha Chabra (Alaya Tea) Interview
We started Alaya to help time slow down, and to build a kinder tea business -- one that’s kind to its people, to the nature it relies on, and to you, who drinks it. In the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, Darjeeling, a community famous for producing the Champagne of tea, sits amidst the Himalayas. Here, time unravels more slowly. An iconic train makes its way up the mountains, over hours, to this old British outpost. As the fog lifts, women can be seen hugging the sloping tea estates each morning, plucking two leaves and a bud, or tea, by hand. Meanwhile, they sing. It's magical. Nearby, fields of chamomile flowers grace the valleys. Mint grows abundantly. These are the bounties of nature, cultivated by women, resulting in the highest quality teas and herbs. Women are the backbone of agriculture in so many of these communities, be it in Darjeeling, Assam, or Kerala. We are a company that celebrates the beauty of these women in the tea growing regions of the worlds. E92: The Dommonic Nelson (Clevtech) Interview
Dommonic Nelson is a growth-minded business professional driven by a positive desire to make a radical impact in various industries and improve the lives of others. It is his commitment to go from inexperienced to competent that has boosted his progression in business. At 25 years old, he launched his first business, a kid company focused on bringing pretend-play back to homes across America. With his strong belief in Albert Einstein's quote,"Imagination is more important than knowledge," he co-created America's first patented puppet and pillow combination, powered by imagination. After learning that Jennifer Telfer, the creator of Pillow Pets, sold over 70 million plush toys worldwide, he set out to do the same, but with a focus on bringing storytime to life and reinvigorating the power of imagination. He views his early business experiences as preparation for his incredible vision for to-go orders at restaurants being dubbed as The Yummy Box. In a few short months after launching this new type of smart locker, Houston Business Journal honored his startup as one of the twenty-six most innovative companies in Houston, and Google awarded $20,000 in Cloud-Based Services. He graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Transportation Management and Security. His prolific work ethic earned him a full-tuition academic scholarship and the opportunity to be the first African American student in TSU's 72-year history to be selected as an intern by the United States Coast Guard. As a full-time student, he successfully managed a full-time job and volunteered weekly in many Houston communities. During his eight weeks as an intern with the United States Coast Guard, he received leadership training from high ranking officers and learned the importance of devotion to duty. While his success as a young business professional, leader, and startup strategist has been immensely rewarding, he maintains an insatiable desire to join the United States Armed Forces. He wants to join and represent the best and brightest that America has to offer. Dommonic Nelson is a self-motivated individual that lives by the statement,"If you're not making someone else's life better, then you're wasting your time." His hunger as an entrepreneur comes from his desire to live a full-blown life experience with no boundaries or restrictions and an opportunity to represent an alternative to his community on wealth creation outside of the traditional pursuits of sports and entertainment. Long way to go, but he's staying consistent. His love to learn and lead will keep him valuable in the marketplace and allow him to continue to make
