Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 14 Ep7: Special Guest and Author D. Neil Elliott
To any outsider, D. Neil Elliott was highly educated, owned a profitable consulting firm, and had a successful career and an amazing wife and family. But things were not all they seemed to be … Neil was facing a lot of challenges. In a phrase, he was in a dark place. Quite by accident, he discovered a Higher Road. As he traveled that road, he found the key to transforming his life.
Over the course of the following year, Neil lifted himself to an inner state of love, peace, joy, and abundance. His perspectives on life changed entirely. His troubles and tribulations were his impetus to find the key that enabled him to revolutionize his life. He learned that the search for a better life does not entail positive thinking, saying affirmations, chanting mantras, or traveling to India to sit at the feet of a guru—or any other popularized method of “finding yourself.” …The key? To ascend in both spiritual perception and truth, you need to use the right process to break through your entrenched, human-ego barriers.
For nearly three decades, Neil read hundreds of self-help and spiritual books and took self-development courses. All of them offered hope for change and improvement, but nothing fulfilled his needs or genuinely delivered on its promises.
Neil’s desire—and his new mission in life—is to share the knowledge he gained and the process he used on his journey to self-awareness, together with the blueprint document he discovered that was instrumental in transforming his life. He wants to give you, regardless of your station in life, the tools and opportunity to empower yourself, transform your life, and draw peace, joy, love, and prosperity into your personal situation and environment. Neil believes that as more and more people follow this Higher Road to true spiritual perfection, a New Era of Love and Peace will dawn for everyone throughout the world.

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 13 Ep1: : Special Guest and author, Rabbi David Green
For over 30 years David has been teaching topics such individuality and soul awareness. He has helped his students deal with issues such as loneliness, self-esteem, inner awareness, making major life choices, how to find your soulmate, and more.
David spent time in the Hollywood music business as a songwriter at the young age of 16. He then studied music composition and Indiana U in Bloomington. After a lot of questioning, he went to Israel to find himself and a more soulful expression of his music. He found both by learning an array of topics about spiritual growth. Years later he received his rabbinical ordination while studying at the Mir yeshiva.
David wrote his first book, A Book about You, which helps people find their individuality and soul awareness. Everyone has a different personality and meaningful path to to achieve greatness in this world. Meanwhile, he wrote an album called Journey to the Real You. The songs and lyrics are woven throughout my first book with QR codes connecting the reader to the songs being quoted.
A big part of knowing who you are is knowing what you are. By knowing that the soul is the most essential part of who you are, it will contribute to the “journey to the real you.” David's new book, “Pictures of your soul” takes you back to that basic question and explores the beauty of your soul and how to grow, even from a very low place, should someone be struggling with their spiritual awareness and identity.
As an artist, David has also spent time in the film industry. He won a CableACE award, the Cannes Film Festival for Deadly Currents and the Health and Medical film festival for a movie starring Martin Short which was distributed by Disney.

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 12 Ep1: : Special Guest and mental health advocate Robert Graves
A successful white-collar professional by day working as a project manager for a large University Health System, Robert is an openly gay man living in Buffalo, NY. Robert’s first diagnosis, chronic clinical depression, came when he was 16, even though he had been battling depression since the age of nine when he had his first episode of self-harm ideology. As he was coming out, his depression morphed into bipolar depression disorder, which went untreated and undiagnosed until he was 44. The untreated mania manifested as an anonymous sex addiction that lasted over 20 years, enduring through the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Only after finally addressing his sex addiction with his therapist did his bipolar disorder come to light, and his treatment with pharmacology help him end his addiction. With the help of ongoing therapy and careful medication management, Robert has evolved to lead a relatively quiet life in his forties, where he enjoys boating, gardening, and volunteering in the community with various organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association. He also has a cat named Bacchus and a French bulldog named Lily.
Through his many years of therapy, he learned to forgive others and accept his family and friends for who they are. Now he has turned the focus inward, forgiving himself for the reckless decisions through all those years and finally accepting himself as he is: a successful, healthy, gay man living with bipolar depression.

What are the practical 5 step self-check tips for us to apply to our relationships when we are in doubt?
Education: learn about what is a toxic relationship? What are the signs you have seen that mean to you? Knowing who you are: your core values, and who you want to be? Connect your inner strength: Understand your cultural background and your childhood experience. Self-compassion: setting a clear boundary starts with knowing yourself. Prevention: finding your own peace and not triggering any unhealthy response through regular journaling, meditation, or yoga practice. She is inspired by this quote from the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu to encourage us to find ourselves–our inner strengths,
“Knowing others is intelligence;
Knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
Mastering yourself is true power.”

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 9 Ep5: Special guest Dr Doug Garland
Dr. Doug Garland practiced orthopedic surgery in Southern California for 37 years. He is a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Southern California and published more than 110 peer-reviewed scientific articles. After experiencing the tall poppy syndrome (TPS) firsthand, Dr. Garland began a 10-year journey researching TPS. This exploration began in Ancient Greece, where the syndrome was first described, to modern times and involved various countries, customs, and cultures.
Specific emphasis was directed towards Australia where TPS is a cultural pastime. To his surprise, it was recognized everywhere in one form or another except in America. After studying America's emotional-cultural behavior, Dr. Garland concluded that TPS was prominent in America, perhaps more so than in any other country, but it is unrecognized. Emotional behaviors of the cutter and cutter were identified. The result was the definitive tome, "The Tall Poppy Syndrome - The Joy of Cutting Others Down" with more than 600 citations which is available on Amazon. Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 8 Ep8: Special guest Mark Resnick
Mark Resnick is an entrepreneur, husband, father, coach, and author. His book, Ten Days With Dad: Finding Purpose, Passion & Peace During the Darkest Days of Alzheimer’s and COVID-19, was published in March and is available on Amazon.
Mark has wanted to be a writer since the fifth grade, when Mrs. Blake, his English teacher, encouraged him to consider writing outside the confines of her classroom.
Growing up in Norwell, Massachusetts wasn’t special, but sharing a house with his dad and two brothers was. Most of the time they didn’t know what we were doing, both literally and figuratively, but found their roles and fulfilled them the best they could. Mark has remained true to his middle child mold ever since, which has served him well more often than not.
In 2014, his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Within four years of his diagnosis, his dad could no longer drive, cook, or take his medications. When the dementia demons took over, he couldn’t stay in his home, either.
His dad spent ten unforgettable days with Mark’s family prior to moving into assisted living, and eventually a nursing home. Over the course of eighteen months, they shared more than 200 meals and 600 cups of coffee, during which time, Mark got to know his dad—and himself—better than at any point in their lives.
During the darkest days of COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s, his dad’s memory, dignity, and, ultimately, his life were stolen from him, and yet, Mark found his purpose, passion, and peace in his life.
Ten Days with Dad is a story about family, progress, personal growth, and healing, born out of a terrible disease and a once-in-a-century global pandemic.
A promotional branding expert by day and writer in the evening, Mark’s other passions include baking, fishing, and visiting Maui with his family. To connect with Mark, visit www.markjresnick.com. His book is available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TYRG9X6
Mark currently lives in MA with Coleen, his wife of 25 years. They are in the throes of putting their kids through college and high school. From Richmond to Fairfield, and locally to Xaverian Brothers HS, they bounce back and forth, offering counsel as needed, encouragement when allowed, and nourishment–which is always enthusiastically accepted!

Thinking that she could "make him see" how wonderful life could be, she stayed in her toxic, emotionally manipulative marriage until one day she woke up to a strong realization. She finally understood that she deserved better treatment, and that no matter how much she worked on herself and tried to "show him" a better way, things were never going to change. It was time to leave.
It was scary, she wasn't ready, she didn't know what life would look like after leaving -- but she took the leap. Now LC is the happiest she has ever been, and she has turned her experience into a guiding force for all women to put themselves, their pleasure, and their values first. Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 5 Ep10: Special guest and sailor Paul Trammell
In 2015, I quit drinking, and my life began changing dramatically and rapidly, all for the better. I wrote my first book about my experience getting sober, and the methods I developed in order to do so. This book is "Alcoholics Not Anonymous."
While seeking out substitutes for alcohol, I rediscovered my love for adventure. I began devouring sailing nonfiction books. I used the money I saved from my first year of not drinking to buy a week-long sailing class . I bought my first sailboat later that year, Sobrius, in St Petersburg, FL, and sailed her alone to the Dry Tortugas, then Miami, and finally to St Augustine. The trip covered 1000 miles and was an adventure that I will never be able to repeat. I wrote about this experience, in my second book, "Becoming a Sailor."
In 2018, I sailed alone to The Bahamas and spent 2 months exploring the islands and searching for adventure. I found more than I bargained for, and wrote about this in my third book, "Journey to the Ragged Islands."
In the summer of 2019, I sold my house, quit my job, gave away or sold all my belongings, and bought a bigger boat, a 1972 Cartwright 40, Windflower. I bought her in Massachusetts, worked on her for three months, then sailed her to The Bahamas, solo. I arrived on New Year's Day and spent four months in The Bahamas. I wrote about this experience in my book "Chasing the Nomadic Dream." I've since written two novels, "Dead Flowers on Wednesday" and "The Gold Box," and a sequel to my first book, called "The Joy of Living Clean and Sober."
My happiness journey started with the realization that something was missing in my life. Through much introspection, I determined that I needed to chase the dream of being a nomadic sailor. I designed a plan to make this happen, and took the steps in the plan. This is my dream, and I am living it.

Understanding what it is truly like for a person to live with brain disease and having the specialized knowledge to navigate the many unpredictable situations that surface on a day to day basis is the first step to coping and managing it for loved-ones and caregivers. It is very possible for people who suffer from brain disease to live meaningful, fulfilled lives with the help of those who are prepared for it. As a society, there is another worldwide crisis that is looming in the near future that will catch us all off guard if we don't plan for it now. The number of people who will develop Alzheimer's disease is projected to double, not only in the United States, but worldwide, in the next few decades if a cure is not found, according to the Alzheimer's Association and the World Health Organization. Currently, the cost of caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease/dementia is not only prohibitively expensive, but very difficult. Many families cannot afford professional care or cannot help care for their loved ones, and these challenges are only bound to get worse, just based on the sheer number of people who will develop it. We need to be proactive vs. reactive in finding solutions to the challenges we face with this disease, as well as be proactive in lowering our risk of developing Alzheimer's disease by implementing lifestyle changes now.
Lisa Paglia is filled with incredible information ready to share it and bring awareness to this growing medical illness that won’t disappear if the medical society doesn’t start putting some sound investment in research and development of cures. If anyone of your family is suffering from Alzheimer or any other brain diseases, this is a podcast you don’t want to miss

John Callas is a veteran director/writer/producer in the entertainment industry. He began life losing his father at three triggering his anger, depression and anxiety. By twelve he was sent to military school due to extreme behavior issues. This added abandonment to the already problematic issues he was facing.
By high school it go to the point where he attempted suicide to stop the pain.
Realizing this was not the way he wanted his life he decided to seek help through therapy and mentors.
The first thing he looked at was that oddly enough his depression was a safe haven. Lonely, dark and unsustainable but safe from the outside world. Again he made the choice to find a way out of the rabbit hole. Not knowing how to heal he accepted help from others and therapy. It was in therapy he discovered that others suffered like he did and that he wasn't unique in his pain.
Making the decision to heal and have a healthy and loving life began a long journey of baby steps leading him to a successful career in the entertainment business in Hollywood. Some of his work is iconic.
His confidence began to grow until he became the person he imagined himself to be. While he acknowledges that at times depression slips back in, the difference is that he controls it and it doesn't control him. His process is to allow himself to look at what is bothering him, find a solution and move on. It isn't always easy but with perseverance he always wins.
He decided he wanted to help others so he wrote "When The Rain Stops," his memoir (on Amazon) of his beginning (depression) and how he managed to have a happy and successful life. He wants to help others find their way by his example. Once you've read his book, he is open to being contacted to chat about your process and if he can be a light in the darkness for you.

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 3 Ep 8: Special guest Nischa Phair
Coming from an abusive relationship, Nischa found herself into understanding the many aspects of what a healthy relationship is all about. When I say healthy, that includes also the sexual aspect of it. Sexual dysfunction is prominent in our society. Erectile issues with men and women unable to orgasm because of emotional tension blurring their minds 24/7. It is becoming harder for people to perform in bed because of social media sharing how men or women should look like physically. Now with the addition of pornography, men idealize women to look like the women they see on the sites, expecting perfection from their significant other.
This constant idealization creates a disconnect between couples, where women feel m ore insecure about themselves and men unable to perform in the bedroom. This vicious cycle keeps on turning and turning with no end in sight. Nischa Phair provides interesting insight on how she helps her clients overcome these feelings of insecurities through different strategies that most can adopt and feel more connected with their partners. Most important strategy to start experiencing changes is to work on your addiction and seek the help of a therapist to address the problems you face daily. This in itself will allow breaking the link so that vicious cycle can be interrupted. If you start with this, you can experience incredible changes in your life and your relationship

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 3 Ep 7: Special guest Maria Riegger
How can a young child cope with a narcissistic parent and still thrive? Well, this podcast will show you how. Maria Riegger is the poster child dealing with post traumatic challenges that allowed her to become a better parent to her own child. Becoming a better parent doesn’t mean being lenient and allowing your child to do whatever they want but allowing them to make decision on their own and assuming responsibilities for their outcome.
Narcissism is challenging, especially when you are in a relationship with one. There is no way to reason with one. They will do everything in their power to destroy you, bring you down, gaslight you, force you to detach from friends that they can’t control, separate you from your family and the list goes on and on.
Focusing on yourself, getting friends, make your own money is what takes away the power of a narcissistic person to lose control over you. As Mari mentioned, observe but do not absorb. You have to observe their behavior to properly take action but do not emotionally absorb the abuse and allow it to hurt you. Many other strategies are offered in this podcast. Definitely a good way to start when dealing with a narcissistic person

Happiness journey with Dr Dan podcast: Season 3 Episode 6: Special guest and internal conflict resolution Expert: Faye Lawand
As an internal conflict resolution expert, Faye Lawand provides tools to work on yourself and deal with past traumatic events that hindered your progress and happiness for several years. Understanding how the minds work, specifically the subconscious mind, we tend to work on relying too much of what is going on around us instead of within us. Bringing back old memories of issues that have not been resolved, we drag the past into the present and forget to be mindful. Understanding that we can’t fix the past but only face the unresolved issues, we fail to work on ourselves and tend to blame everything and everybody else for our pitfalls.
Faye provides amazing insights on how to avoid falling in the same trap as many others out there. She lived through many challenges herself leaving her country of Lebanon and avoids the many dangers of an unstable country, filled with conflict and war.
She certainly practices what she preaches and I am so glad to have had her in my podcast. If you really want to understand why things do not happen in your life and find your path to happiness, listen to this podcast and get to be inspired by amazing people who have gone through many difficult challenges in life. Faye resides in Auckland, New Zealand

Mr. Hollywood Capone experience tremendous loss in his lifetime with his sister and his best friend. The latter enticed him to write a book about him and share his grievance with the world. In his first book, Mr Hollywood was able to combine both fiction and non-fiction genre by sharing his heart wrenching story of losing a friend that he considered like a brother. After publication, he jumped into writing his second book while still integrating a character that was on the first book. Mr Hollywood realized how taking things for granted, as many of us do, can be destructive and filled with regrets when loss occurs. Despite our busy schedule, we should always take some time to call a loved one and express our gratitude towards them, or how much we miss them or love them. If you fail to do so, you will experience a life long regret for not taking those 5 minutes of your schedule to make that call or visit.
Life is filled with regrets as it is, so why add more on things that we can control. I agree that life’s responsibility can be daunting at times, but the effort you put into reaching out to others can make someone’s life better and happier. Why not take that time to make such a positive change?
Mr Hollywood shares his own life’s experience in this podcast. For anyone who is going through a loss, this is a podcast you don’t want to miss, especially when the holidays are approaching.

Being true to yourself is what will help you open your eyes about who you are as a person and alleviate the weight put on your shoulder that you tend to carry around. Many hide their true feelings and are ashamed of the person they are because of how they live their lives.
Steve was able to find himself through his writing. As the author of his best seller Finding you, he expressed his emotions through poetry and allows his readers to find solace in his words.
