It has been some time since I've been able to pull off my annual movie awards but I'm glad to be back. I'm also delighted that I got some of my guests from the past year to join me for this ride.  We all have our feelings about the major awards shows so I want to make sure I take the time to talk about the movies that I loved whether the old guard appreciated them or not. One of the most anticipated films for me in a while was Cocaine Bear. It's not part of a universe, not featuring any actors I love, and isn't about a story that I necessarily cared about but it looked like it was going to be a ton of fun. The MCU has kicked off phase 5 with Ant-Man and Kang. The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes have been mixed (bad critic reviews, great fan reviews) but it was time for me to sit down with two of my favorite collaborators to see how they felt about this one. I've said in the past that now that Cap is gone, Ant-Man is my guy so I needed this movie to come through for me. I was also on the Jonathan Majors train since The Last Black Man in San Francisco so I was excited to see him again after his MCU debut on Loki.  The one thing I was concerned about coming into this film was the recasting of Cassie so we kick the podcast off with that particular topic. The question is, did he accomplish his goal?  I personally knew very little about Black Adam besides the fact that he was somehow tied to Shazam, and I knew that I enjoyed Shazam. I hoped that I would enjoy this movie just as much. Admittedly, as a person who doesn't watch trailers I had no idea what I was in for with this movie so all but the opening action scenes were new for me.  In these 30 minutes, I'll tell you how I felt.  Enjoy! Don't Worry Darling is a movie that has made a lot of headlines for a lot of the wrong reasons. A quick list includes: Shia LaBeouf leaving the production, Olivia Wilde telling us that she fired him, Shia saying that he left voluntarily and releasing a video of Olivia Wilde begging him to come back while speaking to him like Florence Pugh was the problem, Olivia Wilde having an affair with Harry Styles, and much more! It's an accomplishment that this movie even managed to be completed let alone get a full media push and theatrical run.  However, the film is here and now it's time to judge it on its quality. I brought Reese along for the ride since he forced me to watch the movie. It's a shame that at one point I was excited about this film but by its release, I spent 53 cents on the ticket reluctantly. In this review I did a lot of things differently. First, we recorded in person. Second, we reviewed a show that concluded a few weeks ago, and finally, I recorded with some I.R.L. friends. People have been recommending that I watch Severance for some time and, though the show lost in the show tournaments I ran on Twitter, I decided to check it out while I was traveling.  The show is very different from any show I could think of and the three of us had to take some time to think of shows to try to compare it to. It's a show that builds out its world slowly, and intentionally, and each episode leaves you asking more questions than the one before. Now normally, that would be a bad thing but this show makes it work by answering your previous questions when it does so. In this episode of the Bib's Corner Podcast, I bring on Saib Kazmi to talk about Disney+'s Ms. Marvel series. The show centers around a Pakistani-American girl, and huge Captain Marvel fan, who discovers that she has superpowers of her own. Iman Vellani, a real-life Kamala Khan fan, gets to bring the character to life and does so in an amazing way.  The series' biggest strength is that it gives you a lot of characters to root for. Kamala herself is great but each of the people in her life has a lot of depth and has their own things going on which is not always how these Marvel series' operate. In the review, I mention that if Kamala had no abilities and I was just watching this teenage girl live her life I'd still enjoy the show. I promised these a very long time ago and I apologize that these are coming so late.  Before watching the new movie I went back and watched the original movie that came out before I was born. All my life I was under the impression that this movie was a classic beloved by all but when I told people I was going to be watching the old movie, they all told me how bad it is. Essentially, they said that the movie did not withstand the test of time but I personally don't see how this was ever seen as a good movie. It was incredibly goofy to me but that's neither here nor there. The more important issue was that there was no real emotion in the movie despite events being there that should have made it emotional.  Fast forward and we get a super late sequel to a dry movie, how could they possibly make this worth our time? The movie sees a very busy Ethan Hawke and a cast of young (mostly) newcomers in a movie about young boys being abducted. Hawke plays "The Grabber" and our lead Mason Thames plays the main character in the film Finney, the 6th kidnapping victim. In the sixth episode of season 3 of the Bib's Corner podcast, we get our first superhero movie review of the year in The Batman. I knew I had to bring out all of my guys for this one and the conversation was as entertaining as expected.  The Batman features a star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Collin Ferrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Andy Serkis. The story plays out like a film-noir crime thriller and that of course is right up my alley. With a 2 hour and 45-minute runtime, there was plenty to talk about. In Season 3, Episode 3 of the Bib's Corner Podcast, we are talking about Bel Air. The reimagining of the iconic sitcom starring Will Smith. The show is a legitimate drama that was spawned from a pilot by show creator Morgan Cooper that asked the question "What if The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a drama?" In episode 2 of the new season of the Bib's Corner podcast, we get a Netflix review. One of the best shows Netflix has created, Ozark, returned for its final season and released just 7 episodes to drag out the drama. There are no complaints from me however as these first 7 episodes both advance the story tremendously and leave you with a lot to think about while we wait for the final episodes.  In this review, I first reflected on the history of this show and read through my season 1 review to compare my early thoughts about it to how I feel now. In the back half of the review, I go over all of the events of the new season. I then transition to where we left off by the end of the season and who our current threats are. Finally, I get into my theories about how the show might end. In this episode I first correct don’t player rankings that were changed after I realized a HUGE oversight. I them go from our new number 26 down through number 11. There are some huge names in this group... The first 10 minutes is the update I had to make. Each player gets between 3 and 7 minutes.

In this episode we go through players 40-26. There are a LOT of familiar names in this section including some active players and a lot of old school legends you’ve auge never heard of. (2:30 cold open, 25 minutes on 40-35, 35 minutes on 34-26).

FINALLY, this is the first episode of the GOAT series! I start with a 5 minute cold open, I spend 15 minutes on the methodology (for those that didn’t read it, skip ahead if you did). The final 30 or so minutes is all players.

In this episode I review Cooper Raiff’s debut feature which should have screened at SXSW had it not been for the pandemic. This movie hit home hard for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (3:30) cold open. (4:00- 11:30) basic review, (22 minutes) of my review with spoilers where I go way too deep into my college experience and some bonus life stuff that this movie brought out of me.

This weekend I watched the Amazon-Blumhouse collaboration Black Box. Starring Mamoudou Athie and Phylicia Rashad, this is a thriller about a man who is recovering from a car accident and struggling with amnesia. Phylicia Rashad’s character is a doctor who tries to help him recover his memories. But there is something dark that’s coming out in these memories.

In this episode I reviewed the Radha Blank film The 40 Year Old Version. She wrote, directed, and starred in this film and won a best director award at Sundance. Cold open (4 minutes), Review (13 minutes), Bonus segment (10 minutes.)

For this podcast I asked the people what trades they want us to pursue in the offseason and to justify why those trades could actually happen. I also went team-by-team and decided who we might be able to pursue and gave my reasoning for making those trades for both teams. I watched the Netflix movie Vampires vs the Bronx with no expectations, thought it would be completely forgettable but received a pleasant surprise. I loved the characters and the story was interesting as well. Here is my review. (4 minute cold open, 14 minute review, 5 minute section with some spoilers).

In this episode I give you my thoughts on the Janelle Monáe movie Antebellum. The first 7 minutes is a bit of an update and the elevator review. The review is 14 minutes. Then the last 9 minutes is where I get into spoilers while discussing how I’d fix the movie.

In this episode I talk to Lakers fan Justin Styles aka @YungEstilos. 2 minute cold open sandwiched between two ads. We first talked about his earliest Lakers memories. Then we talked about the 2011 Lakers-Mavs series. We moved on to a tough conversation about Kobe, his loss, and his legacy. From there we moved to this current Lakers team, the “struggle years” and then finally his expectations for this series.

In this episode I had the pleasure of having my good friend Mike Kirkland join the podcast to discuss his Miami Heat fanhood. The two ads sandwich my 3 minute long cold open at the start. We had some audio issues early in the pod (a bit of a delay in his audio so I respond to things before he says them until 17:18) Mike’s audio cut out around the time I tell my 2006 story also but overall it’s still easy to follow. We discussed his Heat fanhood, earliest and best memories. The 2006 Finals, 2011 Finals and the Lebron era, how he feels about Lebron as a Heat fan. Then we get into the current team, Jimmy Butler’s decision, Herro hysteria, and Finals expectations.

Im this episode I update you on why the weekly movie update is a few days late (2:30). I go over the top 5 movies at the box office which only featured one new film. As well as hitting the two big streaming movies Antebellum and The Devil all the time. I hit on a big new movie on HBO Max and talk about Jonathan Majors taking a big role in the MCU. In this episode I had the opportunity to bring in Corey Douglass who had me on his YouTube show (The Mr. Douglass Sports Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4aJR3LeubDkD4-hQi-qxlg) a few weeks ago. We talked about his show and Luka being named to the All-NBA First team. We then got into his list of guys under the most pressure in the playoffs and how they’ve performed before discussing Rick Carlisle and the conference finals. There are no reviews this week so I took the time to announce some changes. After some thought, analysis, and studying the podcast game I’ve decided to change the format of the movie side of the podcast. I’m excited and I think you’ll appreciate the shift. I also went over the meager Covid box office numbers and tell you which movies to look out for this coming week.

Reese and I got into a lot of different things in the bonus content. We discussed KD and Lebron’s legacies with their decisions and how we don’t want that for Giannis. (15 minutes). We talked Big Ben Pistons, 2011 Mavs and then got into Stephen A Smith’s comments on Nash very briefly.

**Audio note** Throughout the convo you may notice Reese responding before I finish speaking. There appears to have been a slight delay in my audio on the recording. **end audio note** The conversation with Reese went almost an hour and a half but we cut it down. We spent a good bit of time talking about him being a Mavs and Saints fan despite being a Baltimore native and I got into my background as well. How I became a Mavs and Ravens fan. After that we got into the Mavs season, Patrick Beverly and being pleasantly surprised with the playoff showing. We then got into offseason moves. Who should stay, who should go. Who should we pursue in the offseason (Beal? Jrue? Oladipo?), then we start to get off track and I have to stop it mid-Giannis talk.

This week was all about heavily Oscar Nominated Directors Christopher Nolan and Charlie Kaufman. Their styles could not be more different and that is heavily reflected in these two movies. I get into the box office results for Tenet and the quick reviews in the cold open (7 minutes), then deliver the Tenet review (13 minutes,) and the Im thinking of ending things review (7 minutes) before closing with two movies that might be of interest for the coming week.

There were a ton of questions this week so instead of making an hour and a half long episode, I made the questions portion it’s own episode. There’s a lot of great stuff so I hope you enjoy.

This week I first talked about the sudden passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman (10 minutes), (9 minutes) intro and Elevator Reviews for the 3 movies. (20 minutes) going deeper in talking about the movies.

It’s the first of two pods I recorded on my birthday. (That’s how dedicated I am to you, the people). We go through takeaways from these playoffs in our cold open (11 minutes), Game stats/talk (15 minutes), Questions (32 minutes)

(16 minutes) on the players efforts toward getting real change implemented by the owners and the league to help move black lives matter efforts forward. This was a rough game to watch. The Clippers finally realized they’re bigger than us and used that to beat us into submission. Playoff P woke up, and Harrell was forced to have a good game. Tonight we looked like we were missing a 30 point per game guy. I started the pod by being candid about the players and their statements about the Blake shooting (6 minutes), Cold open (7 minutes), game talk (14 minutes), questions (18 minutes). ***at the start of the game talk portion of the cold open I said Kane Fitzgerald tossed Luka in game 1, obviously it was KP that was tossed.***

This week I reviewed a movie out of the Philippines called Watch List, and the Seth Rogen movie on HBO Max, An American Pickle. (Cold Open and mini reviews 6 minutes, reviews 20 minutes.)

On this pod you get my live reaction to the shot, a listener submission and then we get into the game. KP was a late scratch due to his sore knee and Luka played despite his ankle injury. Trey Burke, Boban, and Seth continue to be big for us. I answer some questions as well. Oh, and Playoff P still sucks. (12 minute open, 20 minutes game talk, 15 minutes on questions.)

This game ended rough with Luka Doncic being unable to finish the game. What looked like a potentially bad ankle sprain sidelined Luka and now we’ll wait to see how long. In the meantime, PG continues to struggle and Seth and Trey Burke continue to get buckets off the bench. I also decided to allow myself to get controversial by addressing the idea of “white boy” as a racial slur. (11 minute cold open, 15 minutes game talk, 17 minutes on the slur situation)

When you look at this game on paper the Mavs were far from perfect but still managed to come out with a strong victory over most people’s favorite to take the title. Burke, Boban, and Curry combined for 44. It was an all around performance from the Mavs and the Clippers will need to make some major adjustments before game 3. 10 minute cold open, 13 on the numbers, 13 on questions and announcements.

Tonight we talk about Luka dropping a playoff record (for a debut) of 42 points. The Mavs defensive gameplan being perfect, and how KP being ejected put a damper on an otherwise great night. There was a lot to love in this game for sure. I also mention my appearance on The Mr. Douglass sports show on YouTube.

This week we talk about the Netflix Blockbuster Project Power featuring Jamie Foxx, the Kevin James movie Becky, and a movie from the co-writer of Pulp Fiction called Lucky Day. In this episode I introduce “elevator reviews” to the podcast in the cold open for those who want to avoid all spoilers.

This is an open letter to Rick Carlisle about the things I’ve seen in our first 3 games vs the Clippers. Both the good and the bad. My keys to the series for Dallas.

No KP, Luka plays 13 minutes, DFS and Maxi play 10 as the Mavs rest up going into their matchup against the Clippers. Boban puts up 18 and 20 in 29 minutes. (3 minute cold open, 10 minutes on the game, last 14 answering questions.)

The Mavs gave themselves a shot to win against a desperate team but in the end there was just too much Dame and we lost the free throw contest. The Mavs filled the stat sheet but just couldn’t get enough stops. I go over the game, my thoughts, and answer some questions. In today’s recap it’s all about the support staff as our role players stepped up to pull out this win. We saw appearances from rarely seen guys and I’ll tell you what I liked from certain guys and how it may help us going forward. The Mavs yet again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and it’s becoming harder and harder to believe we’re a threat to anyone. I then answer questions like: “Are Luka’s stats misleading? And “Is Carlisle the right coach for this team?”

This week was all about the ladies as I watched 3 films with young women in the lead role. Yes, God, Yes is a coming of age story where Natalia Dyer is a Catholic school girl discovering herself and her body. Swallow addresses the compulsion to swallow random objects. And Babyteeth is the latest movie about a teenager dealing with cancer.

Porzingis dominates with 39 and 16, Luka has a 28 point triple double, and Trey Burke provides 31 off the bench... Mavs still lose. I go over why I think we lost.

I FINALLY get around to announcing my award winners after a 5 month delay. Quick S/o to Cory, Raymond, Mike, and Tyler for helping me choose my winners. (Their info is on the podcast).
