To add to this potent energy, today is also a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse moving across Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, & Indonesia – We won’t ‘see’ this cosmic & earthly event here in America, but we are all in its shadow – you can mark it in your day: Penumbral Eclipse begins at 10:14 am Central Time – Maximum Eclipse at 12:22 pm – Penumbral Eclipse ends at 2:31 pm.

Wesak, the major Buddhist festival of the year, celebrates the birth, enlightenment & death of the Buddha on one and the same day, when the Sun is in Taurus, & the Moon is in Scorpio.

This ‘Buddha Moon’ is a mystically auspicious time – it is considered to be the greatest moment of spiritual contact for the entire year. Great polarities are said to be synthesized & consequently united at this festival. Hope is revived in the world, & great seeds of beauty, truth, & goodness are planted within us — qualities needed for the unity of humankind.

Rudolf Steiner also describes this rebellion in Occult Science: An Outline & from another perspective in, The Spiritual Hierarchies and their Reflection in the Physical World: “Beings from the sphere of the Mights (Dynamis), to put it tritely, were detached; they were placed in the course of evolution so as to bring about obstacles instead of acting as progressive influences. We have come to know this as the War in Heaven….[later in Lemurian times]..The beings who stayed behind, whom we call Luciferic beings approached the human astral body –they were unable to reach the “I” – and injected into the astral body the results of the War in Heaven…humans now had been given the possibility of error and evil, but at the same time also received the capacity to rise above error and evil through their own strength…Thus we can see that only because the Dynamis were given adverse orders did humans receive the possibility of reaching their goal by means of their own powers, something that even the Seraphim cannot attain through their own endeavors. That is the crucial fact…Humans have to fulfill a completely new mission in the world, the mission we have just characterized, and  descended into the earthly world in order to accomplish it.  Christ came into the world as man’s free helper; not as a God working from above, but as the first-born among many.”

The Christian Community homily for this week speaks of this turbulent time: 1st Advent – Luke 21:25-36

“And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth, the nations will be constricted with anxiety and doubt with the advent of these spiritual revelations, as before a roaring sea and waves. And men will lose their inner strength of soul out of fear and foreboding of what is coming over the living earth: for the dynamic powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, in the sphere of life, with dynamic power and great radiant glory.

And when these things begin to happen, stand upright and lift up [raise] your soul to the spirit, for your deliverance draws near.

And he gave them a comparison, saying, ‘Observe [behold] the fig-tree and all the trees when they burst into leaf. Seeing this, you know yourselves that summer is near. So also when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

Amen, the truth I say to you: this present age of Man’s being shall not pass away until all has happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.Guard yourselves lest the perceptive power of your hearts be smothered by an excess of food and drink and by over-concern with the cares and worries of life, and the light of these spirit events break upon you suddenly like a snare…for it will come upon all who dwell upon the face of the whole earth. So be awake in the spirit at all times, praying, so that you may have the strength to live through all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man”.

Dear friends – There are so many ways to look at life; it can be super simple or profoundly complicated. Today I was thinking, that the way to thrive is by becoming a mix between a mish-mash & a medley – part hodgepodge & part amalgamation of all the finest virtues our collective experience has garnered.

The best elixir will result from embracing the simple AND the complicated, mixing several different potions derived from our highest intentions & letting it ferment into a potentized medicine, which will only work from the inside out.

Yes, our strongest impact, our true cure, will come from blending our most diverse effects together to create a freshly refined reality, where the human being is Holy.  

When you think about it, the human being is a divine wonder. Our bodies, for one thing, are miraculous, able to adapt & recreate itself every 7 years. In fact it’s mind blowing to try to even contemplate the metabolic system. I marvel at the fact that the hydrochloric acid in our digestive system is so corrosive it can dissolve a nail. In other words, we contain within us the power to dematerialize solid metal.

Why is it so hard, then, for us to conceive of the possibility that we can vaporize a virus with our immaculately conceived immune systems, or stand up to those that would enslave us?

Friends, the power of the highest hierarchies live in our limbs, waiting for us to active them with our will to reclaim our divine birthright as spiritual beings.

What would it be like to imagine that all the fear & doubt & hatred designed to confuse us & make us forget who we really are, are really just rusty nails – & that we are dropping them into a vat of spiritually charged hydrochloric acid. Ha – if we come back every day & revisit this vision – we can watch the nails steadily dissolve. As they yield to our power, we tame & embrace their forces, extracting the iron to fortify our resolve for revolution.

Yep, we need a holy day to remember to Give Thanks. Gratitude is more than just a hallmark catchphrase. It’s a way of life; an attitude, a habit that we have to train ourselves to practice so we can build up our appreciation like a muscle. And what I’m finding is that it may actually change the perception of my well-being.

Our family’s tradition is to go to China Town for our Thanksgiving meal, since I always make a big homemade feast for our daughter’s birthday earlier that same week. When our girl was younger we would invite her whole Waldorf class over for Sukkoth & that was our community Thanksgiving. This year we went to meet some old friends who have also taken up this tradition. On the way to the restaurant I tumbled off the curb & rolled my bad ankle – my foot is swollen to high heaven. I had to sit there on the ground for a bit with the dizzying pain like the wrath of shooting stars catching my breath…dang…What’s that all about…?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed by my various health issues, compounded by the current world situation with all the vicissitudes it has brought to our sense of reality, I have to just take a breath & thank my lucky stars that I can apply Spiritual Science to my heart-thinking. And I remember that this is the ultimate testing ground, where we all agreed to meet. Our ‘truth or dare’ stage where discernment, equanimity, love, reverence/wonder, hope, & the power of peace must come into play.

I know sometimes it feels like we are hell-bent on heading straight into the abyss – I often find myself staring straight into the dragon’s eye – & it’s all too easy to get freaked out & discouraged – to spiral into the negative, cynical scenarios.

Naming the shadow has its time & place, but if it pulls us too deep into discord or depression, this shrinks our heart-health, bringing more inflammation & a weaker immune system – eclipsing the veracity of our collective power which we can access with every positive, thanks-giving, visualization.  So how can I turn this pain & forced slowdown into a gratitude moment…Well, I will have to work that thru won’t I…?

I have a chance to apply gratitude like medicine – a tonic & remedy for everything that ails me. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. An opportunity to let go of the personal pain to see it as a reflection of the pain of the world.

Together we set the table for a feast of healing.

5 things you need to know about the Orionid meteor shower:

The meteors are actually debris from the Comet Halley – The Comet Halley hasn’t paid Earth a visit since 1986, but pieces of the famous space rock still show up every fall. Each year, around October 20-22, our planet intersects with the comet’s orbit, according to Earth Sky. Pieces of Halley disintegrate in Earth’s upper atmosphere nearly 60 miles above the planet’s surface, but not before creating quite the spectacle for those down below.

Let’s be honest, watching this thing is a commitment. Experts agree that the shower will take place before dawn on October 21 or 22, but can’t pinpoint an exact date.

10-20 Meteors Could Fall Each Hour – The Orionid Meteor Shower is a “modest shower.” That means you won’t see a constant stream of glowing rocks plummeting toward Earth at any given moment. Don’t let that fool you. Those watching from dark or rural locations will still have a front row seat for the kind of spectacle that only comes from space.

…And They’ll Be Traveling At 41 Miles Per Second – You read that right. 41 miles per second. These rocks are literally scorching across the sky as they enter Earth’s atmosphere. Roughly half of these blazing fast meteors will leave gas trails behind them that are visible for a few seconds after the meteor is gone.

From. Every. Direction.- The Orionids flying from the sky this month are named after the constellation Orion, where they appear to radiate. The thing is, these meteors generally aren’t visible until they’re at least 30 degrees from that radiant point. This means they can appear any & everywhere in the night sky. If watching with a party, focus on different areas of the night sky & be sure to call out the meteors as you see them.

Springing up as oral traditions, Myths are living repositories of collective wisdom, social practice, spiritual transformation, ecological awareness, & psychological insight.

Myth is deep psyche dressed in imaginative cultural garb – a bridge or fabric of story that connects us to the blueprint of our destiny & through it to Heaven & Earth’s innermost workings, which in the end are the same as our own.

Joseph Campbell often pointed out “Myths are metaphors,” ; that symbolize the perennial, archetypal aspects of human experience. But although the underlying themes are eternal, the images that story them are constantly in motion; Deep rumblings sound below the level of collective consciousness, where vibrantly alive mythic images challenge & evolve us like the qualities of existence they image.

But mythic beings won’t stay locked out or confined to a grid. In a rationalist, de-sacralized world run by money, force, & hardware, they creep in from the margins & ruptures & edges disguised as symptoms, nightmares, epidemics, political upheavals, works of art, moods of enchantment, & disturbing dreams.

An education in mythology fills a gap in the hungering soul with nourishing visions, inspiring narratives, & timeless motifs. When properly digested they become food for the heart & therapy for the imagination. They summon us back to the natural terrains from which they originally sprang & to which all things return…

What if…? The universe is made of music & stories –The Word – not fluff & stuff.

What song will you sing today to bring the world into existence? What story will you tell?

hmmm…but, ummm…what if we aren’t consciously creating the universe? What if we are just going along, living in someone else’s narrative? What happens if we habitually expose ourselves not to The Word within, but to the voices shouting directives from outside us? – To the toxic stories that serve to enslave? What if a commercial jingle is our earworm? – The sound bite our only truth?

Friends! We could wind up living in a false universe! – A world where we are just human animals; a statistic, not spiritual beings having a human experience – A world where it’s impossible to become the purposeful prodigy we are ALL born to be.

No that’s crazy-talk; we would never choose that, right!?! We know that’s not our destiny!

So let’s wean ourselves off tell-tales that have a reductive plot line, & no real heart – fueled primarily by grotesque, negative scenarios, or delusional one size fits all ‘safety’ measures.

Instead, let’s celebrate the luminous mysteries that throb with truth & shape our life story: The clear meditative meanderings that don’t always lead to tidy conclusions, the budding spiritual ‘What If’s’ that feed our soul, but don’t do a thing to serve the false ego’s apathies. Let’s live into the adventure that revolves around brain-teasing breakthroughs, instead of exhausting wobbly confusion, or a status quo submission caused by fear & illusion….

So how about it…? Let’s encourage each other to nourish ourselves with delicious, nutritious narratives & the glorious Music of the Spheres, where ‘the ever present help of the spiritual world’ resounds – inspiring us to exercise our willpower for the highest good of all.

I woke up on this Indigenous People’s day & knew I had to give thanks at the Great Inland Sea. I offered up a rose from our pageant altar to the Spirit of Place, as the Sun was spreading a pink light on the water. I reflected on our powerful working & spoke the name “Mishigama” derived from the Chippewa Indian word meaning “large water” or “great lake”. As I watched the rose toss in the waves I contemplated the remarkable dream I awoke with:

Preparing for Michaelmas:

I watch the shadows lengthen. The angle of the sun, like the lance of Michael, a sunlit spear piercing awake my sleepy summer eyes, banishing the Sulphur, activating the iron in my blood. Am I ready to do battle with the dragon within?

If spiritual science is allowed to live in us & extend its transforming influence to our heart-space, what enters us as thoughts, is then changed, into the substance of light, into the purest light of thought. And in the living enthusiasm of the heart, this light of thought then rays out from our hearts into the macrocosm, as light of the redeemed intelligence of Michael; as enlivened human thought, which can be re-united with the world-thoughts of the gods.

Heart-Thinking is the essence of Michaelmas, as the festival of Enlightenment; where we can learn to experience an unfolding of our inner initiative & a free, strong, courageous will, that helps us fend off our lazy tendencies .

It is our job to strive to complete the never ending story, with the new Michaelic mysteries put forth by Rudolf Steiner, a true emissary of of this Sun Being, teaching us to count the human being as the 10th hierarchy. And so, work we must, as we stand once more on the edge of autumn.

10:10 Testament - The Thought-Seed Project: It's been awhile since we checked in around our ‘Egregore’ - our collective ‘Thought-Form’ of Good Will – our “key-call” to the powers on the Inner Planes, to enlist their aid.

Through our continued intention to visualize the human being as a star & the Earth as a Sun*, our positive egregore grows between the material & spiritual worlds & is connected to both.

At the re-founding of the Anthroposophical Society, Rudolf Steiner connected ‘the Movement’ – i.e. The Spiritual Beings working behind the impulse of Anthroposophia - with the Society & its members. This impulse extends beyond the usual limits of space/time. Our goal is to co-create a new ‘Group-Soul United in Christ’ thru our daily 10:10 meditation.

Greetings friends – I am just bobbing my head up from a deep dive – my 1st foray as a member of the General Council of the Anthroposophical Society in America. Thruout the 4 day retreat we worked with a lecture series by Rudolf Steiner called simply – ‘Anthroposophy, An Introduction’, GA 234, given a year before he died, from January – February of 1924. These 9 lectures are a kind of recapitulation, a deepening of concepts he gave 21 years earlier in his seminal books ‘Theosophy’, & ‘How to Know Higher Worlds’.

It’s difficult to stand up to the standards of others. Our karma sometimes gives us slack, & sometimes it’s the rope that hangs us.

As we bring Heaven & Earth together, as the dreamtime & daytime merge, as paradise & the underworld overlap, we register the shockingly exhilarating fact that we are in charge - you & I are in charge - of making a brand new world. Starting tonight & peaking on Earth Day April 22 the Lyrids are making their appearance. These springtime meteors get their name from the constellation Lyra, which is shaped like a harp with a tail to the bright star Vega. 

From Greek mythology, this is the Lyre of Orpheus, the harmonious instrument that the virtuoso played at the gates of Hades in an ill-fated attempt to win back Eurydice from the Underworld. Orpheus the son of Apollo & the muse Calliope, being a demi-god, his singing & playing were so beautiful that animals & even trees & rocks moved about him in dance. 

Some folks speculate that this was a former incarnation of Marie Steiner von Shivers, who they also say was the famous Greek philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria – they both met their death by being was ripped to shreds. Perhaps, we can imagine the Lyrids as the 'Tears of Orpheus,' falling down from the heavens.

I think it’s interesting to contemplate these 2 powerful personalities, of Orpheus & Hypatia, who were both standing at a turning point of time when new impulse were coming in, which is what Meteor Showers are a sign.

There is a connection here with Demeter The goddess of agriculture who is known as “The Pure Mother Bee”, but she doesn’t really show up until Equinox, so today we look to the Celtic Triple Goddess of this cross-quarter time. She who invented language & Agriculture in the West. 

So let’s take a few moments now to let the gifts of honeyed Brigid, unite & bless us for our time together. 

In early Celtic times, the light of the growing Sun was seen as Brigid’s Fire of Purification, burning away the dross of winter & shining forth Hope for the coming Spring-tide.

So as we stand at the midway point, betwixt winter & spring, we can remember that for our ancestors this was a time of initiation, a time of purification & re-dedication, called by some the season of the Celtic Triple Goddess Brigid, associated with the mysteries of the sacred well-the healing Holy Waters AND the fires of the forge, the eternal flame of the hearth & the fire in the head to bring us poetry & clear thinking, to call in the will of the Sun. And so to tune into these potent energies, let’s take a little inner journey, what do you say? Are you ready to engage your imagination?

Dear friends, I am inspired to continue to keep the energy of the season going with a little story that I shared with my writing buddies & the folks working with the 6 basic exercises yesterday. This tale is dedicated to the Celtic Triple Goddess Brigid. She of the 4 Alchemical fires & the purifying waters, which gives birth to healing. And so it is of her that I will share

The Cross-quarter betwixt the Winter Solstice & the Vernal Equinox is not only intuited & out-pictured in nature, but is determined by a cosmic conversation. But most folks celebrate today on the fixed date of Feb. 2nd. In the time of the ancient Mystery Schools it was a time of purification & re-dedication, a time of initiation. For the Celtic tribes, who were very much in touch with the cycles of the season, this is called Imbolc – which means in the belly – it’s the lambing season. They call it Celtic Spring - the time of year when the belly of the great mother quickens with the growing light. And it is dedicated to the Triple Goddess Brigid, holding the power of the Maiden, Mother, Crone, & associated with the mysteries of the sacred well connected to purification & the fires of the forge, to call in the will of the Sun.

As a veiled Crone, with one eye & pale blue/grey skin, The Cailleach or twilight hag, has been feared & revered across Celtic cultures for over 3000 years. Depicted as a giant with a bow-legged stride -She leaps across mountains & valleys with a power to shape & transform the landscape, rocks falling from Her gathered apron.

The Cailleach is said to be responsible for raising mountains & creating the ancient burial cairns & barrow mounds.  She is a Goddess of the Underworld, associated with the ancestors & the realms of death & rebirth. The Cailleach is connected to the bean sidhe (Banshee), the wild women of the Faeries, She oversees the faerie mounds & entrances to the realm of the Fey.  You will also find Her near sacred standing stones, the “bones of the earth”.  Her companion the Owl is associated with death, the underworld, magic, & the ability to see spirits.  She is said to be a shapeshifter, & can transform into a giant bird - "the night hag", "cailleach-oidhche", which is old Gaelic for "owl".

As a Goddess of transformation & death, She oversees the culling of the old, & lets die all that is no longer needed. And also with the passing of the Winter months, the Cailleach finds & guards the seeds for the coming re-birth of Spring.

In the 16th century, the Kabbalists compiled a Tu B’Shvat “Seder,” similar to the Seder for Passover. It involves enjoying the fruits & seeds of the tree, while discussing philosophical & Kabbalistic concepts, like the idea that by eating with the highest intention we can repair the ‘fall’. The ‘sin’ against the Tree of Knowledge was that Adam & Eve ate its fruit before it was ripe. So, what is it about waiting that transforms knowledge from hurtful to healthy? Do we have faith that the spring will come & everything will grow & ripen in its season? There is wisdom in waiting. And Through conscious eating, we have a daily opportunity to correct a part of our soul, so deep & intrinsic that it reaches back into the Garden of Eden. 

The custom on Tu B’Shvat is to eat fruits from what is called ‘the seven species’ for which the Earth is praised: “…a land of wheat and barley and (grape) vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and (date) honey” (Deut. 8:8).

On Tu B’Shvat, it is also customary to eat a “new fruit” something we have not yet tasted in the new year.

This festival lets us ask: Am I getting the spiritual food I need, to truly live with grace; or has my tree been left untended; or is it being blown down by the forces of information overload & rampant materialism?

We can also remember how trees are able to communicate with each other. And we can ask: Am I part of a strong community, providing a warm & nurturing environment? Or am I cast into the pale bleak anonymity of urban life & cyberspace?

Am I looking to future generations knowing that I am providing them with the proper foundations for their lives?

Dear friends, To really live into the 3rdof the 6 basic exercises, which is about equanimity or the capacity to remain balanced & calm rather than reactive, we can tune into our breathing, our rhythmic system. In the 2nd panel of the Foundation Stone Meditation Rudolf Steiner tells us when we live into the beat of heart & lung we are supported thru the rhythms of time. They say time heals all wounds. We find our stability within the fluctuation, which reveals the true feeling of our own soul-being. When we practice Spirit Mindfulness, which is to observe the spirit behind mind, beyond matter, listening to the riddle it poses & the awareness it awakens, this brings us a steadiness of Soul, a balance of earth & spirit. 

When we unite our own 'I' our consciousness, with the 'I' or consciousness of the world, this weaving in our souls allows us to use our feeling life creatively. Emotion comes from motion; if the motion gets bent out of shape, we can change the shape to change the emotion. We can work with the feeling. Cultivate it - to change the atmosphere - to become steady -To feel deeper. Instead of being buffeted by the ‘surging deeds of world evolving’ we can take the reins of our emotion & steer it where we want to go - into a unity.

To fear the wolf is to miss the opportunity to tap into its essence, which can be turned to the good. Many conservationists say reintroducing the wolf into the wild brings a better balance to the ecosystem. If we try to suppress these impulses they just come out sideways, & we get the wolf in sheep’s clothing, which in my thinking is much more lethal. How can we let the howl of the wolf alert us to the fact that the checks & balances are needing adjustment. How can the howl be heard, so that the call for freedom can be transformed from an unconscious selfish impulse, where the pack runs in for the kill; channeled instead into a call for a true freedom which serves the good of all.

Dear Friends, In the coming months, we will encounter events that require us to revise our understandings about the very nature of reality. Our imaginations will have to be ingenious & our hearts alert in order to keep up with the outlandish changes.

To locate truth amidst relentless waves of propaganda, we'll have to be fiercely disciplined & tenderly hate-free. Unclutched by fear. To avoid being infected by popular delusions, we'll have to cultivate compassionate lucidity, humble courage, & a determination to rouse our will.

We are primed to commune much more intimately with the hidden source of power that fuels life. We are close to meeting the requirements defined by visionary poet William Blake who wrote: "Unless the eye catch fire, God will not be seen. Unless the ear catch fire, God will not be heard. Unless the tongue catch fire, God will not be named. Unless the heart catch fire, God will not be loved. Unless the mind catch fire, God will not be known."

Let’s catch fire, to enkindle a passion to know god in all her forms. And to nurture our home fires that we must keep ever burning, as well as the communal fire that we must gather around & feed with our very breath.

I am ever searching for the spiritual significance behind world events. I have been thinking about how the corona crisis has made us catch our breath – has literally stopped our breath & endangered our collective heart. And seeks to modify our very humanness by altering the RNA in our blood.

Finding the connections between ourselves & the world situation, let us breathe deep into our lungs knowing that with this & every breath we take in spiritual life forces that stimulate the warmth & life in our blood, enabling us to be, to think, to feel./ Then when we breathe out - into the world - we are filling the atmosphere with the concepts of our being, of our thoughts & feeling life. Are we sharing into the ethers enlivened life forces of light, love & warmth? - Or are we breathing out fearful death forces, cold hard unconscious darkness…?

Rudolf Steiner says “We think we see with our eyes, but we don't literally see with these outer organs. They are a kind of microscope, or telescope, or camera, a fairly dead body in us. We see by means of it, with etheric activity.” He explains that we perceive colors as the result of etheric activity. If we look at green & afterwards at a white sheet of paper, we see it’s reversal as red. (hmm the Christmas colors, go ahead after the call get out your crayons & give it a try) This seeing is due to the continuation of the etheric activity of the eye, which answers to the impressions of colors. We see a balance. We never see an actual color as it is, but always a balance. We produce complementary colors thru the etheric activity of our eye; & what we see - the final physical effect, is a balance, even if we are not consciously aware of it. But when we do make it our intention to be conscious, we became co-creators of this new etheric sight.

What wants to be in-formed on the Earth now, & how can we give it expression?

Friends, we will continue to experience upheaval until we decide to take up our true birth right as human beings, to envision & work for: unselfish Freedom, Equity & Solidary under the guidance of Columbia, the divine feminine quality of Peace, in collaboration with the Cosmopolitan Spirit of our Age, Michael, who asks us to transform our thinking into a Universal Will for Good.

Let the freedom dove fly. Shout unity to the sky. Let war & greed die. Claim justice on high. 

The only revolution that can work is a complete revolution in our thinking, feeling & willing. Otherwise we are just being played between 2 adversarial forces.

We can generate the great strength we need to offer a conscious resistance to these inflaming & hardening forces by approaching the spirit, not only thru the inner powers of revelation & faith, like in the case of Joan of Arc; but by concentrating our powers of understanding on what spiritual science has to give, starting with common sense; which gives us the moral foundation that opens us to divinely inspired wisdom, filling us with light. And when we take ahold of ourselves with this attitude, we can consciously work with what Michael, the Spirit of our Age, has to give us now in our time –

Meeting every test & trail with a conscious heart-thinking, motivated by the wisdom of love.

In the opening verse Steiner reminds us:

Spirit fruits will come to grow,

If, souls with knowledge of the spirit,

Turn their mind to spirit realms.

And so dear friends, as we remember the deeds of Joan of Arc, especially during this season of Epiphany, we are also reminded of our current task, to name & tame the modern beasts, to take our will forces in hand, to flip evil on its head, to reverse it, so that it serves the good - Like dear Greta Thunberg & many, many, people young & old, who have dedicated themselves to be Spiritual Warriors for Peace, & the light of truth.  See you in the 10:10.
