August 20, 2023 - Riches to Rags // 2 Samuel 11-12
David's life begins much like any other rags to riches, but this part of David's life would be better described as riches to rags as he takes what is not his and is willing to kill to keep it hidden from view. -- New to Heritage? The grace of God is not for "whole" people; it is explicitly for the broken. In this story about a king keeping his promises to the weak and undeserving, we see one of the most beautiful illustrations of God's grace in the Bible. -- New to Heritage? Want to get more involved? June 18, 2023 - Overcoming Apathy // Revelation 3:14-22
Perhaps the best-known letter of the seven in Revelation 2-3, Jesus' words to Laodicea are cutting and condemning. When He looks at this church, He finds a group that sees themselves as wealthy and self-sufficient while He sees a poor and pitiable church. To this church He writes to repent and respond to His invitation. -- New to Heritage? Want to get more involved? Looking for a Group or Ministry Team? May 14, 2023 - Overcoming Error // Revelation 2:12-17
The church in Pergamum endured a great deal of persecution, including even the execution of one of its members. But when Satan realized that persecution would not dissuade this early church, he turned to something more subtle, compromise. By making it easy to submit to the idols of the day, the church in Pergamum found itself drifting away from the One who saved them. -- New to Heritage? Want to get more involved? Ephesus was the major metropolis of Asia Minor in the first century. Known for its worship of the goddess Artemis, this city was marked by commerce, adultery, and idolatry. Decades after Jesus' death and resurrection, His disciples spread the Gospel through the Roman Empire and beyond. March 19, 2023 - When We Are Faithless // Matthew 26:57-75
While there are days that we are faithless, God is still faithful. One of the clearest contrasts of this is found is Jesus' willingness to endure the pain and shame of the cross while Peter is faithless nearby. But before we're too hard on Peter, let's remember that God is faithful even as WE are faithless.
