The Falkland islands are British settled islands in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, who were invaded by the CIA-installed Military Junta of Argentina in the early 1980s to distract from a financial crisis and a repressive authoritarian regime. The British government and military sprang quickly into action and, against the wishes of US President Ronald Reagan, sent a taskforce to reclaim the islands to British rule. A hard fought battle ensued between the two similarly armed forces and it resulted in the British retaking the Islands before the UN issued a ceasefire.
