Remastered Repost notes:
Don't Think You Can't is a lesser-known LL song from a few years back. It's based on a quote from Henry Ford.
Blank Page is a new one based loosely on a quote from Seth Godin.
Enjoy,
Lucas

02: "The Days Drag On" and "MAGIC" (rr)
Watch the video for The Days Drag On here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuy7eq1bsV4
It is also available to stream and download wherever you get your music. Just search for Lightning Lucas and Luke Mullet. Luke and I hope to do another collab, perhaps this summer. So look forward to that.
I also mentioned Seth Godin's Podcast, Akimbo. Check that out anywhere you get your podcasts.

Thanks so much for listening. Please tell a couple of friends!

01 An episode on hope: "Hold The Hope" and "Still Have Hope" (rr)
Hold The Hope was commissioned by the Iowa Peer and Family Peer Support Training Program, and it featured Nichole Barrows, C.S. Hurst and Isaac and Jacinda Stahly-Dahl. It was mixed and mastered by Jake Cochran of Illiterate Light.
You can watch a video of Hold The Hope, which was put together by the esteemed Gabriel Brunk, by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElhZ1wsnBUs and you can find it on the album A Taste of Lightning Lucas wherever you download or stream your music.
Still Have Hope was co-written with Andrew Claassen. I did the vocals and the acoustic guitar. Andrew did everything else, including: electric guitars, bass, laying the drum track, organ, back-up vocals, producing the song, mixing, and mastering! A video for this song should be available next week-ish, and we may make the song available for downloading and streaming, haven't figured out how yet. Hold That Note is planning to run at least 6 episodes, with an old favorite followed by a new song each week. If I enjoy the 6 week trial period I will keep going. If you enjoy it, please subscribe. You can consider supporting me by checking out patreon.com/lightninglucas ... there is no commitment involved in checking it out. Have a wonderful listening week,
--Lightning Lucas-- March 2021
As you can see... I made more than 6 episodes. The Still Have Hope video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r90R9Wgid04
Hold That Note is currently on hiatus, but I'll be posting some rr episodes (remastered reposts)... today's is all the original episode content with some minor tweaks to the compression etc.
The best way to support the show is to commission an original song. Email me at Lucas@LightningLucas.com or call FivForZeero-746-0398
I hope you enjoy the show,
best,

104: "Grow Slow" and "Think and Grow Rich"
Hold That Note is quite possibly going on a hiatus, however, I may start season 7 sooner rather than later. Also, I may repost some remastered episodes during the hiatus.
Please make sure to go to Spotify or Apple Podcasts and 'follow' Hold That Note so that you find out when season 7 starts.
Thanks especially to all you early listeners and patrons. When the show resumes hopefully we'll be able to create a petri dish effect.
Best,
Lucas

103: "Criminally Discontent" and "Downstream"
Today features two songs about being down, but a lot of the talking is about the concept of 'staying conscious'... and also gratitude.
Check out the new and improved LightningLucas.com or HoldThatNote.net
Contact me to discuss your idea for a commissioned song: email: lucas@lightninglucas.com or call (fivforzeero)-746-0398
The passage I read today was from Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth"...
Best,
Lucas

102: "Gentle" and "Aubrey" (both ft cello by C.S. Hurst)
Check out the new and improved LightningLucas.com or HoldThatNote.net
Contact me to discuss your idea for a commissioned song: email: lucas@lightninglucas.com or call (fivforzeero)-746-0398
Today's comment came from David Niven, PhD. (Author of "The 100 Simple Secrets of Successful People")
Best,
Lucas

101: "Clean Your Room" song looped for 10 minutes and 49 seconds
Here's another weird episode. It's my room cleaning ditty looped 6 times (which adds up to 10m49s)...
if you want to skip this episode I won't be offended, but if your room needs more than 11 minutes of cleaning perhaps you'll play it more than once... haha.
Hopefully I'll be back with something more usual next week!
Today's call to action is to please subscribe on Spotify or Apple Podcasts so that you get notifications when the episodes drop.
Have a great week!
--Lucas--

100!!!: Wadi Rum Desert, Music Train, Still Have Hope (W/ Andrew Claassen), and Blessings Left
A bit of a walk down memory lane.
A different format (4 songs instead of 2).
The new thing is a remastered version of a song you've never heard, which is about the desert Wadi Rum in Jordan. (Which was recently featured in Time Magazine) (the desert, not my song).
I don't think I exactly put in a call to action this week, so the CTA is the same as last week: if you could/would, please rate or review this podcast on Apple or Spotify!
Contact me here: Lucas@LightningLucas.com or (Fiv-For-Zeero)-746-0398

99: Some love songs: "Ships in the Night" and "Just Your Voice Won't Do"
Today's episode features a new love song and an old love song. It also features some thoughts on more qoutes from Eckhart Tolle.
It also features the better birthday song, sung for Jeremi's 9th birthday. (Ep 1 features the birthday song for Jeremi's 7th birthday)!
See LightningLucas.com for most of the music, including the love song album which I mention in this episode, which is called "It ain't me babe, rough cut"
The book I read from today is called 'A New Earth'
Have a wonderful listening week and I'll see you next Friday for episode 100!
--Lucas--
P.S. Please rate/review this show on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. That would be super helpful. Subscribe while you're at it =)

98: "Monkeys" and "My Soul Finds Rest"
Please subscribe on your favorite podcast app.
Today I dabbled in the Bible. I touched on Psalm 62, Luke 3:11, and the book of James. I also featured a song that claims it doesn't matter if God exists because we are all just big stupid monkeys... so it's a weird episode =)
Find these two songs at LightningLucas.com ... Monkeys is on the album 'Cold Hearted Monkeys' and My Soul Finds Rest is on the album 'Wash Me / Walk On Water'
Have a wonderful listening week, and I'll see you next Friday,
Lucas

97: On Climate Change: "Redder and Redder" and "Reverse Entropy"
Please subscribe on your favorite podcast app.
Check out the Anabaptist Climate Collaborative here: https://sustainableclimatesolutions.org/resources/
Also, search for "Shifting Climates" on your podcast app, it's a great show.
Thanks to Earl for emailing me two questions! Perhaps we'll get to the other one in a future episode.
Have a wonderful listening week,

[Remastered Repost of] 04: On Depression: "You Gotta Wait It Out" and "Waves Toward The Sun"
My ducks are not in a row these days, and yet, life is good (and hard). Here is a remastered repost of episode 4, which came out nearly 2 years ago. I remastered both the songs and the talking and harmonica stings. Most of you probably won't be able to tell the difference, but that's okay. (The most significant difference is that it now sounds better on large speakers, though optimal listening is still through headphones).
This is a fairly solid episode and it doesn't really touch on current events at all, so it's very repostable. Feel free to reply to this post (or email Lucas@LightningLucas.com) with a question or comment, I love to hear from you.

96: First actual episode in awhile. Featuring a new song I really like: 'Blessings Left' as well as 'War In My Soul'
Back from a bit of a hiatus, armed with new superior audio compression tools... I'm Lightning Lucas and welcome to my musical podcast. It's called Hold That Note. You can find many things related to the show at HoldThatNote.net and you can listen to it on that website or wherever you get your podcasts ...
The show features my songs, old and new... songs of Life and Love, Depth and Lack Thereof. Today's new song is mostly in the 'Depth' category, though it has some funny lines as well. I also riff in answer to questions about previous episodes or about life in general.
Today's call to action is:

Thank you for using some of your valuable time to listen to my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Here are two more songs! The first one appeared on YouTube in 2016 for the NPR tiny desk contest. The second one is brand new this week. Both songs are about having high ambitions that don't pan out the way you thought they might. Today I experimented with the levels of the talking versus the songs... let me know if it improved your experience!

81: "seek a path" (2022 mix) and "Unstuck"
Unstuck... getting unstuck. That's the goal.
Thank you for using some of your valuable time to listen to my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Here are two more songs! The first one appeared on the show before, in June of 2021, but I touched it up for today's episode... the second one is brand new... it's about getting unstuck. Both of these songs relate to depression but are somewhat lighthearted nonetheless.
The book that I talk about in today's episode is "Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression" by James S. Gordon, MD. I've only read the introduction so far and it already inspired a song... but I can't really vouch for the book yet.

[Repost of] Ep 19: The Lightning Lucas Origin Story (The Ballad Of Lightning Lucas)
Today is my 9th 'Lightniversary' ... It has been 9 years since my heart started beating again, and tomorrow will be 9 years since I woke up after being directly struck by a freak bolt of lightning. Hear the whole story in this episode!
I was wrong in the episode, I said I wrote this song for the 5th Lightniversary, it was actually the 4th. Check out one of my early efforts at YouTube, with visuals of the actual lightning tree here: https://youtu.be/R67xFK4adZk

Payton Gendron song (studio live take) "Make-Believe" (An 'emergency episode' about three current tragedies) (Song Only)
This is a special song-only episode featuring a song I started many years ago and finally finished. It has a lot to say, so I'll simply post the lyrics:
Newspaper hit the doorstop of my heart this morning,
Headline read, another ten dead,
Shot by a kid, who was wrong in the head,
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe,
It’s easier to pretend it’s just pretend,
It’s easier to imagine it’s just the imagination of the man at the radio station,
Rather than the messed up mind of the boy with the gun in his hand,
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe…
Newspaper hit the doorstop of my heart this morning,
Headline read, thousands now dead,
When I ask what for, they say another war,
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe,
It’s easier to pretend it’s just pretend,
It’s difficult to imagine the imagination of the man at the highest position,
Thinking it’s a grand idea to keep sending more boys with guns in their hands
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe…
Newspaper hit the doorstop of my heart this morning,
Headline read, a million are dead,
In a country where we had the cure to spare
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe,
But some choose to pretend it’s just pretend,
Empirical evidence isn’t as real as what I feel and what I read on my newsfeed
Tells me that I is more important than we
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe,
It’s easier to pretend it’s just pretend,
And ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people’
They say as they pray as they peep through the keyhole
And wait to come out till the murder-suicide… blood has dried
It’s easier to make believe it’s make-believe…
It’s easier to pretend it’s just pretend,
…unfortunately this is not the end
…Fade out
If you are moved by this song please share it. You can also play it... it is Capo 7: Am,C,G,D

Episode 60: The Sizzle Reel
Start the process of commissioning a song by emailing Lucas@LightningLucas.com or calling (FivForZeero-746-0398)
While you listen to the sizzle reel, think of what song you'd like in your life. Here is the beginning of the script:
Hi I’m Lightning Lucas, and I got that name by being struck by lightning and surviving, and now I’m a musician who writes songs for a living and I also host a weekly musical podcast! It’s called Hold That Note (visit Holdthatnote.net) Today I’m walking you through my sizzle reel of songs I’ve done for specific people or events and of course those I’ve done on commission as well. Let’s dive in with a snippet from my 2018 classic ‘Hold The Hope.’
Here’s what Diane from Iowa had to say:
“I commissioned a song from Lucas as part of a project to create a training program for Peer Support Specialists. He listened carefully to the thoughts and ideas of our team and honored them in his creative process. He kept me apprised of his progress and met the required deadlines. It was a pleasure to work with Lucas and we couldn't be more pleased with the end product.”
[Clip from Hold The Hope ft. C.S. Hurst and Nichole Barrows]

Here’s a quote from folk musician extraordinaire John McCutcheon.
He says: “Amidst the flood of new singer-songwriters out there, every once in a great while someone makes me stop and listen. I never miss a chance to hear another Lightning Lucas song. You shouldn’t either.”
Trent Wagler of The Steel Wheels had this to say:
“Lightning Lucas has an earnest heart that he puts into every song. He's equal parts quirky, funny, and poignant.”
Here's what Jake Cochran of Illiterate Light had to say:
“With a wit like the lightning in his name, Lucas always brightens my day. We’ve played together countless times and toured together by bicycle, but I keep coming back for the songs. I have my favorites, but more than anything I look forward to whatever he writes next.”
Here’s a quote from Dimitris Campos of Ears to the Ground Family:
“I think Lucas is spontaneous, creative, and witty. He’s the hardest working songwriter in Harrisonburg. His songs get to the heart of the theme that he’s writing about.”
Go ahead and start the process of commissioning a song by emailing Lucas@LightningLucas.com or calling (FivForZeero-746-0398)...
I look forward to the possibility of working with you!

Welcome to my musical podcast where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Today, the first song is the fresh one, written and recorded yesterday. [Repost of] Ep 01: On Hope: Hold The Hope and Still Have Hope
It is perhaps more important to me that you listen to recent episodes, but if you are a super fan, this repost is for you. Episode 01 was pretty solid. It came out on March 17, 2021. A lot of things have changed since then, some things not so much. Please do consider going back to the beginning and binge-listening to some episodes! Here are the show notes from the original episode:
Have a wonderful listening week, --Lightning Lucas--

53: Niko's Song and Only This Step
Welcome to my musical podcast where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Today, Niko's Song is the old one. It's about Jeremiah chapter 1 and John chapter 3 (The story of Nicodemus), and it was written in honor of the birth of my nephew (who's name is Jeremiah (he turned 8 yesterday)). The new song today is the first-ever studio recording of 'Only This Step,' complete with redone verses. Only This Step is a 'mantra song' advising you to tackle things one at a time.

21: The Nathan and Kaitlin Wedding Song Virtual Choir Edition and Wanderin' Home To You
Here are 2 more love songs =) In August 2010 Nathan and Kaitlin got married! Several of us got together and wrote them a song. 10 years later they commissioned me to finally do a recording of the song, so we put our heads together and made it happen, although unfortunately not in time for the actual anniversary. --Lucas-- The Nathan and Kaitlin Wedding Song is by: The Apostle Paul, Lightning Lucas, Jessica Sarriot, Rose Byler, Emma Stahl-Wert, Carmen Schrock-Hurst, and Caleb Schrock-Hurst At the wedding, it was performed by Lightning Lucas, Jessica Sarriot, Rose Byler, Emma Stahl-Wert, Larisa Zehr, David Jost, Stewart Nafziger, and Caleb Schrock-Hurst 10 years later we got almost everyone to submit a recording including Nathan and Kaitlin themselves, (THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING!) I mixed it together and this is the result. Hope you enjoyed it, and know that YOU TOO COULD COMMISSION ME TO WRITE A SONG FOR YOU, simply email lucas@lightninglucas.com if you are interested!

You can download the song GrandPaul at https://lightninglucas.bandcamp.com/track/grandpaul

04: You Gotta Wait It Out and Waves Toward The Sun
Today's episode is about depression and how sometimes you just have to wait it out. However, be sure to use a toolbox full of tricks to help you ride out the wave of your low.
Here's to better tomorrows,
Lucas

03: Don't Think You Can't and Blank Page
Don't Think You Can't is a lesser-known LL song from a few years back. It's based on a quote from Henry Ford.
Blank Page is a new one based loosely on a quote from Seth Godin.
Enjoy,
Lucas

01 On Hope: Hold The Hope and Still Have Hope
Have a wonderful listening week,
--Lightning Lucas--
