NEW! Ep 107: Depressing American History Pt 1 and "Which Wolf Wins"
These 6 mini songs (2 of which are featured today) were commissioned by a friend who wished to remain anonymous. The songs are for a supplement to her homeschool curriculum, which mostly focused on positive things about the United States.
Opportunities to see me live include:
Thursday, July 13, 2023 6:00 PMX2 Comedy Al Fresca Register
Island Wing Company Grill & Bar - Harrisonburg
More Importantly: Cave Fest: July 15 and 16 at Melrose Caverns. https://www.melrosecaverns.com/comedy Click that link, then click "Get tickets" ("Buy tickets is something else)... Then be sure to select 'Basement Comics' in order to see me.
Most importantly; Save the evening of July 21st for a potluck followed by a concert by me, possibly with a comedy friend opening for me, and likely at the Hershberger Event Barn. 25% of the proceeds will go to NAMI for mental health research. Stay tuned for details.

It is interesting to note how "Not My Muse" feels like it makes sense with my recent relationship that I sang about in Ep 105.
Also, apologies for the popping 'P' noises. I seem to have that one figured out by now =)
Best,
--Lucas-- (Summer 2023)

NEW! Ep 106: Two Wedding Songs
Here are two weddings songs, one new and one old.
My brother-in-law Yugo produced the first song and played all the instruments, although I wrote the lyrics and mixed and mastered it. Also, notably, the center section of the first song is a parody of the epic anti-war classic "The General" by Dispatch. Listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdAlCXNPlCk
The second song was a major group effort.
The Nathan and Kaitlin Wedding Song is by: The Apostle Paul, Lightning Lucas, Jessica Sarriot, Rose Byler, Emma Stahl-Wert, Carmen Schrock-Hurst, and Caleb Schrock-Hurst. At the wedding, it was performed by Lightning Lucas, Jessica Sarriot, Rose Byler, Emma Stahl-Wert, Larisa Zehr, David Jost, Stewart Nafziger, and Caleb Schrock-Hurst. 10 years later we got almost everyone to submit a recording including Nathan and Kaitlin themselves, (THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING!) I mixed it together and this is the result. Hope you enjoyed it, and know that YOU TOO COULD COMMISSION ME TO WRITE A SONG FOR YOU, simply email lucas@lightninglucas.com if you are interested... NEW! Ep 105: On breakups: "Feel Bad" and "Gabbi"
Here's an episode I made purely for myself. If you like it too, that's just gravy, (as the saying goes).
Here's the link I promised: https://lightninglucas.bandcamp.com/album/it-aint-me-babe-rough-cut
Other than that, please be sure to check out the new website: HoldThatNote.net and also make sure you're subscribed to the show on your favorite podcast app.

06: On playing with passion... and overthinking: "Inexcusable" and "Thought It Through" [rr]
Today's episode spirals around the question of how we should know which decisions to rethink and which to stick with.
I discuss Beethoven, Seth Godin, Adam Grant, and the YouTube channel Productivity Game.
I would love your feedback on this or any previous episode. Email me at lucas@lightninglucas.com
You can find the song Inexcusable on the album A Taste Of Lightning Lucas, wherever you get your music. Or you can download it directly from me at lightninglucas.bandcamp.com/album/a-taste-of-lightning-lucas

P.S. I would also love to have you as a supporter. Just check out Patreon.com/LightningLucas or email me with an idea for a song commission (or call Fiv-For-Zeero-746-0398)
The only things I would add here are that you can now download "Thought It Through" on the album "Cold-Hearted Monkeys" at lightninglucas.bandcamp.com ... and that the new website is worth checking out: https://linktr.ee/lightninglucas

05: On untimely death and being ambitious: 'GrandPaul' and 'Aim High' [rr]
This episode is in honor of my Grandpa Paul. He died tragically 10 years ago, and this episode features a song I wrote about his life, followed by a song based on one of his favorite sayings: "Aim high, there's room at the top."
You can download the song GrandPaul at https://lightninglucas.bandcamp.com/track/grandpaul
You can support this podcast at www.patreon.com/lightninglucas
You can email me about the possibility of hiring me to write you a song at lucas@lightninglucas.com
Enjoy the show,

04: On Depression: "You Gotta Wait It Out" and "Waves Toward The Sun" [rr]
I actually remastered this episode 4 months ago, but since I'm doing them in order I thought I'd just post it again. It's a good episode. I may go ahead and do episode 5 right now too.
--Lucas-- 6/11/2023
My ducks are not in a row these days, and yet, life is good (and hard). Here is a remastered repost of episode 4, which came out nearly 2 years ago. I remastered both the songs and the talking and harmonica stings. Most of you probably won't be able to tell the difference, but that's okay. (The most significant difference is that it now sounds better on large speakers, though optimal listening is still through headphones).
This is a fairly solid episode and it doesn't really touch on current events at all, so it's very repostable. Feel free to reply to this post (or email Lucas@LightningLucas.com) with a question or comment, I love to hear from you.

Remastered Repost notes:
Don't Think You Can't is a lesser-known LL song from a few years back. It's based on a quote from Henry Ford.
Blank Page is a new one based loosely on a quote from Seth Godin.
Enjoy,
Lucas

01 An episode on hope: "Hold The Hope" and "Still Have Hope" (rr)
Hold The Hope was commissioned by the Iowa Peer and Family Peer Support Training Program, and it featured Nichole Barrows, C.S. Hurst and Isaac and Jacinda Stahly-Dahl. It was mixed and mastered by Jake Cochran of Illiterate Light.
You can watch a video of Hold The Hope, which was put together by the esteemed Gabriel Brunk, by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElhZ1wsnBUs and you can find it on the album A Taste of Lightning Lucas wherever you download or stream your music.
Still Have Hope was co-written with Andrew Claassen. I did the vocals and the acoustic guitar. Andrew did everything else, including: electric guitars, bass, laying the drum track, organ, back-up vocals, producing the song, mixing, and mastering! A video for this song should be available next week-ish, and we may make the song available for downloading and streaming, haven't figured out how yet. Hold That Note is planning to run at least 6 episodes, with an old favorite followed by a new song each week. If I enjoy the 6 week trial period I will keep going. If you enjoy it, please subscribe. You can consider supporting me by checking out patreon.com/lightninglucas ... there is no commitment involved in checking it out. Have a wonderful listening week,
--Lightning Lucas-- March 2021
As you can see... I made more than 6 episodes. The Still Have Hope video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r90R9Wgid04
Hold That Note is currently on hiatus, but I'll be posting some rr episodes (remastered reposts)... today's is all the original episode content with some minor tweaks to the compression etc.
The best way to support the show is to commission an original song. Email me at Lucas@LightningLucas.com or call FivForZeero-746-0398
I hope you enjoy the show,
best,

104: "Grow Slow" and "Think and Grow Rich"
Hold That Note is quite possibly going on a hiatus, however, I may start season 7 sooner rather than later. Also, I may repost some remastered episodes during the hiatus.
Please make sure to go to Spotify or Apple Podcasts and 'follow' Hold That Note so that you find out when season 7 starts.
Thanks especially to all you early listeners and patrons. When the show resumes hopefully we'll be able to create a petri dish effect.
Best,
Lucas

103: "Criminally Discontent" and "Downstream"
Today features two songs about being down, but a lot of the talking is about the concept of 'staying conscious'... and also gratitude.

Contact me to discuss your idea for a commissioned song: email: lucas@lightninglucas.com or call (fivforzeero)-746-0398

101: "Clean Your Room" song looped for 10 minutes and 49 seconds
Here's another weird episode. It's my room cleaning ditty looped 6 times (which adds up to 10m49s)...
if you want to skip this episode I won't be offended, but if your room needs more than 11 minutes of cleaning perhaps you'll play it more than once... haha.
Hopefully I'll be back with something more usual next week!
Today's call to action is to please subscribe on Spotify or Apple Podcasts so that you get notifications when the episodes drop.
Have a great week!
--Lucas--

100!!!: Wadi Rum Desert, Music Train, Still Have Hope (W/ Andrew Claassen), and Blessings Left
A bit of a walk down memory lane.
A different format (4 songs instead of 2).
The new thing is a remastered version of a song you've never heard, which is about the desert Wadi Rum in Jordan. (Which was recently featured in Time Magazine) (the desert, not my song).
I don't think I exactly put in a call to action this week, so the CTA is the same as last week: if you could/would, please rate or review this podcast on Apple or Spotify!
Contact me here: Lucas@LightningLucas.com or (Fiv-For-Zeero)-746-0398

99: Some love songs: "Ships in the Night" and "Just Your Voice Won't Do"
Today's episode features a new love song and an old love song. It also features some thoughts on more qoutes from Eckhart Tolle.
It also features the better birthday song, sung for Jeremi's 9th birthday. (Ep 1 features the birthday song for Jeremi's 7th birthday)!
See LightningLucas.com for most of the music, including the love song album which I mention in this episode, which is called "It ain't me babe, rough cut"
The book I read from today is called 'A New Earth'
Have a wonderful listening week and I'll see you next Friday for episode 100!

98: "Monkeys" and "My Soul Finds Rest"
Please subscribe on your favorite podcast app.
Today I dabbled in the Bible. I touched on Psalm 62, Luke 3:11, and the book of James. I also featured a song that claims it doesn't matter if God exists because we are all just big stupid monkeys... so it's a weird episode =)
Find these two songs at LightningLucas.com ... Monkeys is on the album 'Cold Hearted Monkeys' and My Soul Finds Rest is on the album 'Wash Me / Walk On Water'

96: First actual episode in awhile. Featuring a new song I really like: 'Blessings Left' as well as 'War In My Soul'

The show features my songs, old and new... songs of Life and Love, Depth and Lack Thereof. Today's new song is mostly in the 'Depth' category, though it has some funny lines as well. I also riff in answer to questions about previous episodes or about life in general.

Episode 88: Some thoughts on the already and the not yet. This is the last episode of season 5. Next week we'll start season six with a couple of holiday favorites and then see what takes shape after that! Also next week, hopefully I'll be launching a holiday album, most likely entitled Happy Early Birthday Jesus.
Many thanks to Andrew, Landon, and Josh... I really dig today's first song! (And of course I love the second song too, which sounds great because of the harmonies of Dimitris and Nichole)...

Thank you for using some of your valuable time to listen to my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Here are two more songs! The first one appeared on YouTube in 2016 for the NPR tiny desk contest. The second one is brand new this week. Both songs are about having high ambitions that don't pan out the way you thought they might. Today I experimented with the levels of the talking versus the songs... let me know if it improved your experience!

81: "seek a path" (2022 mix) and "Unstuck"
Unstuck... getting unstuck. That's the goal.
Thank you for using some of your valuable time to listen to my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Here are two more songs! The first one appeared on the show before, in June of 2021, but I touched it up for today's episode... the second one is brand new... it's about getting unstuck. Both of these songs relate to depression but are somewhat lighthearted nonetheless.
The book that I talk about in today's episode is "Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression" by James S. Gordon, MD. I've only read the introduction so far and it already inspired a song... but I can't really vouch for the book yet.

Thank you for checking out my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. Here are two more songs! The first is a cowboy story, and the second is a birthday song for myself. Apologies for publishing this late... (the episode was done on time just not posted), I went to the local Christian Music Festival yesterday, and I painted a long day today with my dad.
I recently released an album of love songs... it's called 'Before I Find Her' ... free to listen, but please do purchase it if you would be so kind: https://lightninglucas.bandcamp.com/music

Thank you for checking out my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. This week the first song takes some of its material from the Sermon on the Mount (Google it), and the second song is a humorous yet poignant 'recipe' for happiness.

74: Oh Captain My Captain (2022 Studio Version of Robin Williams tribute song) and Bigger Things Blind
Robin Williams' life may have ended 8 years ago... but his influence is alive and well. Here is a new recording of a tribute song I wrote for him using quotes from the movie Dead Poets Society.

Thank you for checking out my musical podcast, where each week we hear two songs, usually one old and one new. This week we start with a new Taize style song. The text comes for page 77 of the A.A. Big Book. Then we have some riffing about God, followed by a song based on the book of James.
