Gracie Spinks Murder

Gracie Spinks Murder

Listeners, the topic Regina and Lynn are discussing on today’s episode is a serious one. The story they share is about a beautiful young woman who was actually stalked and murdered.
But the hard part about this story is that it happened at her horse barn. For many horse people, the barn is a sanctuary. A place to get lost in thoughts while doing chores, and that may be why this story hits so close to home.
By sharing Gracie’s story, the hope is to bring awareness and prevent other tragic losses.

Zorse

Zorse

Fun fact, did you know you can cross a horse and a zebra? You can! It’s called a Zorse.

And speaking of Zebras, on this episode of the Horse Industry Podcast, Lynn and Regina are discussing the fascinating story about a dazzle of zebras currently loose in Maryland, just 20 miles Southeast of Washington, DC. That’s right, there are zebras galloping on highways and spooking drivers just miles from one of the busiest areas in the US.  How did the zebras get loose, and how are authorities planning on catching them? Lynn and Regina answer those questions and more in this episode.

On the Road with Regina: Equine bone and joint health (including a discussion on lunging and injections!) with Alyssa Logan, Ph.D. candidate

In this episode of On the Road with Regina, Regina sits down with Horse Industry Researcher Alyssa Logan. Alyssa is a PhD candidate at Michigan State University studying Equine Exercise Physiology.

Regina and Alyssa talk about the cutting edge research she’s doing and how it will impact the horse industry as a whole. Her graduate research focuses on the impact that exercise and management have on equine bone and joint health. Alyssa has special interest in management and exercise of performance horses. Before her academic career, she had years of varied experience riding and showing horses. Growing up in Oakland County, MI, Alyssa showed with her local 4-H club and equestrian team, through which she found a love of pattern classes. In academic and professional horseman capacities, Alyssa works to combine scientific evidence as well as the realistic desires of the horse industry to explore methods of exercise and management which will lead to healthy careers for performance horses.

Trigger

On today’s episode,  Regina and Lynn are talking about Trigger and Roy Rogers. This topic came from their Chief Topic Officer, CTO, Norma. Who just happens to be Regina’s mother and Lynn's sister. Norma sent Regina a screenshot of an article called; Seven Things That You Probably Didn't Know About Trigger. And while Regina and Lynn  were looking at the article they realized, there really were seven things they didn't know about Trigger. And it was fascinating. So today they are sharing with you, seven things you may not know about Trigger, as well as, more interesting facts about Roy Rogers and his famous horse: (or should we say horses? Don’t worry, they’ll explain in the episode.) Trigger.

Chincoteague Island Ponies Part 2

Chincoteague Island Ponies Part 2

Lynn and Regina are back again with Part 2 of the Chincoteague Island Ponies episode. And just in case you were wondering, Misty and Stormy are still sitting on their desk a week later for this episode.

Lynn and Regina have had a ton of fun talking about these ponies. Last week, they discussed the two different islands, how the ponies got to the islands, and the auction that happens every spring where you can purchase your very own Misty or Stormy. They have even started a coin jar to start saving to buy their own ponies.

So this week they are going to talk about the story of Misty of Chincoteague as well as the family that raised her and the author of the book that purchased, wrote and made Misty famous. Let’s dive into Part 2.

Chincoteague Island Ponies Part 1

Chincoteague Island Ponies Part 1

Raise your hand if you had a Misty and Stormy figurine from Chincoteague Island growing up? Both Lynn and Regina read and loved the books which is not a surprise since they were horse/pony obsessed, and still are. So it would only make sense that they would record an episode about the ponies of Chincoteague Island.

This is the first of two episodes about this most beloved story.  In this first part they will cover the two herds of Island ponies, some of the backstory, and fact-based history. And then the second one, airing next week is all about Misty.

Head to the basement or up to the attic, pull out those dusty book covers and Misty figurines, we’re heading back to our childhoods as we dive into this nostalgic story about all of our favorite ponies.

On the Road with Lynn: Tater Lux

Lynn is still on the road this week and in this episode she is sitting down with elite roper, horse trainer, cowboy and entrepreneur, Tater Lux.

When Regina and Lynn started the Horse Industry Podcast, they wanted to make sure that they had diversity in their topics but also in their guests they have on the show. That means they’re going to cover the pleasure horse industry, the cutting horse industry and they’re even going to cover some Rodeo, beginning with today’s episode.

Tater and Lynn discuss stories from Tater’s youth, including his claim to fame at the age of 14, how he lost a finger (you read that correctly) his Sophomore year of college, the World Series of Roping in Las Vegas, Tater’s first pony and more.

Get ready, this episode is all about bulls and blood, and dust and mud, and the roar of a Sunday crowd.

Regina and Lynn are back in the same state and in the same studio for today’s episode. And they couldn’t think of a better episode to bring to you while together than this episode about the history of the horse industry and specifically the 6666 Ranch in Texas. Lynn became intrigued about the 6666 logo that she kept running across every time that she would go to a cutting and then Regina got interested and decided to check into the 6666 Ranch. And the next thing they know they’re buying swag (you’ll have to listen in to see what they got). In today’s episode they discuss the history behind the ranch, how the logo came to be, and why the ranch is currently for sale. They even left in a blooper for your enjoyment.  Enjoy the first of what they hope will be many episodes about this legendary ranch.
