152. Claire Hudson: Founder of Oso and Me

Today's guest is Claire Hudson the founder of the popular children's brand, Oso and Me. When Claire started her family, she felt strongly that her children should be able to dress themselves, and no clothes were too nice to play in. When her first child grew out of his baby clothes in six months, she set out to solve the problem of functional clothes that last longer for kids. Oso & Me was created in 2017 as a wardrobe full of clothes that are beautiful, functional, and worn for all occasions.

Their clothes are as aesthetically beautiful as they are functional - Oso and Me loves special tailoring details like cuffs, flexible waistlines, and neckline pleats. These innovative "growable" designs survive frequent growth spurts. They also focus on pull-on-pull-off styles to foster easy dressing from newborn to size 8. Getting dressed should be the easiest part of the day!

We know listeners will love hearing Claire's story and hope they will take the time to leave us a 5-star review on Apple and to subscribe to the show!

141. Eleanor Scott Davis: Abstract Artist

141. Eleanor Scott Davis: Abstract Artist

Today's guest, Eleanor Scott Davis is an abstract expressionist painter based in Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended Wake Forest University where she studied English and Studio Art. She went on to earn a Masters of Fine Art in Creative Writing with a concentration in poetry. While the written word remains a passion, Eleanor Scott ultimately chose to forgo the pen for a paintbrush. She is attracted to abstract art because, like poetry, it leaves the door open for individual interpretation.

Eleanor Scott considers her artistic process to be directly linked to her role as a mother. Joining her in her bright studio, you will often find one (or all three!) of her daughters. She is frequently pulled away mid-brushstroke by the needs of her children and has come to value these moments of distraction as a tool that strengthens her art, forcing her to step away, evaluate and return with fresh eyes. The result is a deeply-layered, richly-textured, and multidimensional use of color. She considers her work a chronicle of motherhood: a balance of energy, chaos, unpredictability, and pure joy.

Eleanor Scott’s paintings have been featured in numerous publications and can be found in homes and corporate collections across the United States. We know listeners will love hearing her story!

In today's episode, we continue our holiday series brought to you by Poppy Gifting! Rose Room is a collection as much as it is a concept: a way to celebrate togetherness, grounded in a sense of place.
Louise Denny and Ally Lewis were colleagues, then friends, then business partners – and now, Rose Room founders. Rose Room clothing is about ease, comfort, timelessness, and quality — meant for spending time with great people and having fun. They are drawn to interiors with soul and the people and stories they have held — both in our designs and in our daily lives. It goes back to the idea of being together…a beautiful space becomes something more when filled with energy and people. In this way and many others, the lines between decor and fashion blur for us all.
Quite simply, Rose Room is inspired by being together. Louise and Ally hope to create a brand that connects people in meaningful ways, and we’re so happy to introduce you to them today!

128. Leah Melby Clinton and Hannah Weil McKinley: In Kind Magazine

128. Leah Melby Clinton and Hannah Weil McKinley: In Kind Magazine

Today's guests, Leah Melby Clinton, and Hannah Weil McKinley are the ladies behind In Kind Magazine. In Kind is an independent, biannual magazine focused on capturing the conversations modern women are having as they navigate motherhood, career, and personal style. It's slow, conscious content dedicated to exploring the good life.

When they couldn't find the content they wanted to read as they advanced in their careers, started families, and began wondering how to balance all of it, Leah and Hannah decided to create it themselves. The women they know live insanely multi-faceted lives, equal parts mother and friend and partner and careerist. She is passionate and curious, driven by a fierce ambition in all aspects of her life, and unwilling to give up the pursuits that make her who she is as an individual.

Leah Melby Clinton, Editor and Founder is a writer, an editor, a wife, a sister, a friend—and a mother. Her entire career has been spent in media (and she still works in fashion today), yet through all of her reporting and interviewing and musing, she began to feel like something was missing as she settled into her 30s, had her first child, and started to yearn for something slower; more traditional, yet not traditional. Suspicious that there were others out there like her—women who were pulled in different directions by wanting to focus on themselves and their families simultaneously— she decided to formalize the conversations she'd been having with people, collecting them in a place that would arrive, physically, in your mailbox.

Hannah Weil McKinley, Founding Editor is a storyteller who's always been innately interested in style. That’s where her day job has taken her for over a decade in fashion media. But after the birth of her first daughter in 2018, she found she was compelled to share more candidly—about motherhood, about womanhood, and about the things that go along with it.

It’s that connection that makes In Kind so special, a curation of creatives and their stories that bring us all a little closer while acknowledging the many complicated, beautiful parts of being a woman navigating motherhood and the life she wants with it.

Thanksgiving Series X Mary Hollis Huddleston

Thanksgiving Series X Mary Hollis Huddleston

In today's final episode of our Thanksgiving Series, we welcome Mrs. Southern Social onto the show! Mary shares southern hospitality, tradition with a twist, and a bit of sarcasm. That’s what you’ll find with Mary Hollis Huddleston, on Mrs. Southern Social.
Mary is a Nashville native who loves entertaining at home but is also a very busy gal. She doesn't have time, nor does she want to be in the DIY business. Mary believes in the power of “delegation,” in that by utilizing all the amazing party resources available, you can actually enjoy hosting beautiful events and celebrating life creatively.
For a while, Mary loved planning parties so much that she made a living doing it for others. She started in the event-planning business in Dallas right after graduating from college. One marriage, one baby, and eight years later, she “retired” from wedding planning, and moved back to Nashville to settle down for good.
Since then she started, Please Be Seated, an event rental company, which makes it very convenient for Mary to rent items for the parties she now hosts at home. You'll love hearing Mary's holiday plans as well as her tips and tricks for staying sane this holiday season.

123. Kimberly Borges-Rowe & Miriam McDonald: Founders of PWR WMN

123. Kimberly Borges-Rowe & Miriam McDonald: Founders of PWR WMN

On today's episode of HSDT, our host welcomes Kimberly Borges-Rowe & Miriam McDonald the Founders of PWR WMN onto the show.

PWR WMN was created by these two best friends who wanted a simple thing: pockets in our blazers. Kim and Miriam grew tired of never having the tools they needed to be 100% ready for business at all times because they never had the pockets for those tools.

The ladies wanted clothes that helped them portray themselves as the Power Women they are, but also help them close deals, so they created PWR WMN. Their clothes don’t hide femininity, they highlight the strength our femininity brings to the table, and the extra pockets don’t hurt either!

No matter if it's a meeting, a lunch, or a business trip: PWR WMN is here to take charge, take ownership of the tools we need to succeed, and take command of the future. A future that's female. With equality and functional pockets for all.

122. Grey Hall & Page Hall Stehlar: Grey Hall Design

Today's guests Grey and Page Hall are sisters who set out to make the classic silk scarf current! Listeners will enjoy hearing about the sisters travels, experience in product development, and so much more in today's episode. Their grandmother hand-painted silk ties in her heyday. Upon hearing their mom share these stories Grey began to think, 'why couldn’t I use the current technology to produce the same custom feel for silk scarves, while also solving a gap in fashion?' Grey is the talented watercolorist behind the brand, while Page is the Product Development visionary. The quality is at parity with Hermes, but where the ladies breakaway is through the design of storytelling on silk. Each scarf is packed with intentional design decisions that build upon each other. Creating a unique scene on silk while integrating print and pattern techniques for a holistic composition. This is Grey's personal criteria during the creative process. Each element is hand-painted in watercolors for 100% authentic originality.
Their watercolor storytelling on silk and paper is inspired by travel, nature, the garden, and imagination.
We know listeners will enjoy today's episode! It is likely one you'll want to share with a friend!

106. Beth Dye and Kate Hawken: Founders of Maxwell and Geraldine

106. Beth Dye and Kate Hawken: Founders of Maxwell and Geraldine

Today's guests are identical twin sisters, Beth Dye and Kate Hawken. The founders of Maxwell and Geraldine are living on opposite coasts of the U.S. and love to talk every day - especially while brainstorming the perfect dress.
A few years ago, Beth and Kate started dreaming about making chic, beautiful dresses that were missing from their closets. You know those hard-to-find, easy-to-wear styles that add instant polish? When you find one, it’s like winning the wardrobe lottery. You hold on to it for years and reach for it again and again. They wanted more of them, and they thought we might too.
The ladies started with a secret weapon -- stretch smocking -- which flatters every figure. The forgiving, gathered fabric sits on top of your skin and smooths your curves for a perfect fit. They sourced 100% opaque cotton for a crisp look and designed each dress with a pop of color to add some joy to your wardrobe.

Summer Series X Brooke Lancaster

Summer Series X Brooke Lancaster

Welcome to our 'Summer Nights' Series sponsored by Liza Pruitt! We have loved sharing some of Liza's favorite artist's summer memories throughout the month of August and how those moments inspire the art they create now! This week our group show went LIVE on LizaPruitt.com!

Today's guest, Brooke Lancaster is a Georgia-based fine artist. Brooke made the decision to pursue painting full-time in March 2020. It has given her the freedom to spend more time with her family as well as create when inspiration strikes.

In Brooke’s recent clotheslines you can see her fascination with highlights and shadows. The infinite possibilities of clothing and memorable items give her a sense of nostalgia and the process of hanging clothes to dry reminds Brooke that there are no limits to what tomorrow may bring when painting artwork. In a studio that is a constant mess, Brooke enjoys bringing order to her canvases. She finds peace and purpose in the balance.

Listeners will love getting to know Brooke in today's episode and hearing more about her journey. We hope you enjoy our final installment of our 'Summer Nights' Series sponsored by Liza Pruitt!

Mirth caftans are meant to be worn on the beach, to dinner, and everywhere in between.

With a modern take on traditional handloom weaving and abstract block printing, Mirth's mission is to help sustain and celebrate craft and provide opportunity and ethical employment to artisans in developing countries.

In today's episode, we welcome Caroline Adams & Marisa Renfro, founders of Casamia onto the show!

Caroline’s original wedding day was set for Spring 2020 at Round Hill in Jamaica. Because of the pandemic the wedding was postponed, and to make up for the wedding weekend Marisa and her husband had Caroline and her fiancé over for dinner. To Caroline’s surprise, the dinner was a recreation of her Welcome Party inspired by The Ivy with a Jamaican twist, and Marisa nailed it.

From there, the wine was flowing and Marisa explained the idea of somehow delivering tablescapes to people’s homes. They started spit-firing ideas, and with Caroline’s business savviness the concept became a reality. Both of them were determined to bring happiness to people’s tables nationwide. Voilà Casamia!

88. Rachelle Williams & Hayden Shoffner: Co-Founders of Byrdie Golf

In today's episode our host, Emily Landers welcomes guests, Rachelle Williams & Hayden Shoffner, the Co-Founders of Byrdie Golf, onto the show! Byrdie Golf Social Wear was born from golden hour golf cart rides with our grandmothers, learning life’s lessons through the game of golf. The most important lesson that the ladies have learned over the years, and have put into practice, is to never compromise your personal style for any occasion. Their mission is to bridge the gap between modern fashion and performance while paying homage to the sophistication and style of our matriarchs’ wardrobes. Through Byrdie Golf they hope to not only reintroduce personal style back to the game of golf, but also celebrate a new generation of women who bring friendships, cocktails, and legacies to the 19th hole. Amongst the many life lessons passed down is the quality and fit of a garment. They have sourced for you the finest fabric for both your afternoon tee-time and sundowner cocktail hour. As a cherry on top, they are proud to produce and manufacture all of their pieces stateside. This episode is one you'll want to share with a friend who is always on the golf course, looking to take their business to the next level, or simply someone who will love hearing about the day-to-day behind-the-scenes of building a brand.
