108. Situps Are Stupid and Crunches Are Crap & The Good Sh*T | Dr. Todd Sinett

108. Situps Are Stupid and Crunches Are Crap & The Good Sh*T | Dr. Todd Sinett

It’s time to change the way you think about, and exercise, your abs. Dr. Todd Sinett, a second-generation chiropractor and certified fitness trainer, explains why you should never do a sit-up or any version of a crunch ever again! Sinett’s innovative new book—which includes a detailed exercise routine (illustrated with photos) and a meal guide—teaches healthier and smarter ways to get great abs without compromising your back and neck anymore. Sit-Ups Are Stupid and Crunches Are Crap, based on the science of flexion, addresses the key issue of core imbalance and the resulting (and totally unnecessary) pain. Dr. Sinett shows how achieving core balance will transform your flexibility, breathing, and digestion—and, yes, get you the abs you’ve always wanted. Great abs no longer have to equal great pain.

The Good Sh*t will teach you about the digestive system and how your body talks. You'll learn how to wade through all the diet bullsh*t that hasn't worked for you and never will. You'll learn how to figure out which foods are affecting your output and how to best create a nutrition plan that works for you and the way your body functions. You will learn what a good sh*t is, what it should look like, and how to have them regularly so that you can start looking and feeling better. This book is a path to self-discovery that will open your eyes to specific foods that you digest and excrete well, as well as others that you will, should be staying away from—even if they have been described as a supposed "superfood." By looking at your output, The Good Sh*t will help you understand the best things to input. Ultimately, this is a book about how to have really great sh*ts.

106. HAB. The Best Water Flavor Product On The Market

106. HAB. The Best Water Flavor Product On The Market

Shane McCassy, The Founder and CEO of Hab has spent the last 17 years growing exciting startups and influential brands like Oakley, Amp’d Mobile, Muscle Milk, and Tone It Up. His experience has given him the privilege of launching national retailers, websites, mobile apps, and has commercialized more than 100 consumer products in the health and wellness space. During his 7 year tenure as Director of Marketing at Muscle Milk, their goal was to position protein as a lifestyle product and bring it to the masses like it hadn’t been before. As COO of Tone It Up he learned the power of community and the impact of a company aimed to do good.

During his 5 years with Tone It Up, Shane became much more aware of his own sustainability and began to eliminate plastic and single-use waste from his daily life. This lifestyle change and previous experiences led him to the idea behind Hab. He loved drinking water from his reusable bottle but would turn to a plastic bottle or aluminum can when he needed a little flavor. After too many days of seeing the pile of single-use waste, he thought, “There has to be a product that gives me the flavor I love without all the waste!”

After finding no such products that fit his core values, he began the development of Hab. Hab’s guiding principles were simple; Let's make water taste amazing, with a plastic-free supply chain, no single-use waste, and never any artificial ingredients. The solution is Hab’s naturally flavored bits, a dose-as-you-like tablet that pairs perfectly with your reusable bottle of choice, flat or bubbly. He hopes you all enjoy great tasting fruit-flavored water, sustainably.

In this episode:

- The importance of drinking water
- Sustainability and what that means in the water industry
- Energy, focus, attention, and mood can all be related to drinking water
- Flavored water and how it can encourage you to drink more of it
- The background of HAB (HABIT) and creating a revolutionary product to flavor water

82. Dr. Leonard Scott: The Ultimate Boost From Within - 31 Days to Health, Wealth, Wholeness, & Happiness

Aches, pains, lack of sufficient resources, and generalized feelings of inadequacy can sneak into our lives as we approach our latter years. We recognize that there are some aspects of our being that we have little to no influence over, such as our genetic makeup, our parental lineage, the family we have inherited and the legacy that accompanies it and at least to some extent, the country or environment where we reside. However, there are many other aspects of our lives that are affected either directly or indirectly by our efforts. The Ultimate Boost from Within helps you put these efforts to work for you and your overall health and wellbeing.

Dr. Leonard Scott is the founder and CEO of the nation's oldest gospel recording company, Tyscot, Inc., which has been home to many superstar recording artists in the genre. He is also a highly sought-after health practitioner in the field of dentistry, a radio talk show host on health, a pastor, and author of three books, his latest being The Ultimate Boost from Within, 31 Days to Health, Wealth, Wholeness and Happiness.

Dr. Scott has successfully practiced dentistry in his home community of Indianapolis, Indiana for over forty years. He pastors Rock Church there, but has traveled throughout the United States and abroad, speaking on health-related topics and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In his many years of practicing in the health field and interviewing hundreds of health professionals on the radio talk show Medically Speaking, sponsored by the Marion County Public Health Department, he has observed the gross discrepancies of those who are sick and those who are healthy and has come to the conclusion that the gap between the two is not always that wide. The sick among us can greatly improve their lives by making only a few changes. He concludes that the road to a healthier, more prosperous life can be found in the pages of his new book.

Functional Medicine treatment for your eyes can improve your vision and save your eyesight - and even reverse -degenerative eye diseases.

Episode Notes

In this episode of I AM Healthy & Fit, I had the great pleasure to interview a guest who knows a lot about the eyes.

She is one of the only Functional Medicine Optometrist in the world and is an award-winning Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in NYC and also serves as principal investigator for 5 multi-centered clinical trials in neuro-ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Exam Development Committee and helps to set the standards for board certification in her field and was voted Castle Connolly Top Doctor 2017, 2018, and 2019 by her peers.

Dr. Rani Banik is finding holistic and alternative ways by adjusting her patients diet and lifestyle habits to create major transformations in her patient's eye health.  She applies principles of complementary and alternative medicine in conjunction with traditional medical approaches to treat chronic diseases affecting the visual system. She offers a unique approach to managing conditions such as dry eye, macular degeneration, blepharitis, migraine, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, thyroid eye disease, uveitis, and other autoimmune conditions. She is the founder of Envision Health NYC, a private practice based in New York City.

You can visit her website and/or get details to make an appointment to see her at www.rudranibanikmd.com

Our conversation reframes the direction and application of eye health as an "inside out" approach rather than treating symptoms.

75. Cavin Balaster: Feed A Brain

75. Cavin Balaster: Feed A Brain

In 2011, Cavin fell 20 feet from a rooftop water tower scaffolding. His head struck a steel beam on the way down before crashing onto the concrete rooftop below. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and put on life support. While in a coma, an MRI revealed a severe diffuse axonal injury (DAI), which is one of the most devastating types of brain injury. Statistically…over 90 percent of patients with this brain injury never regain consciousness, and most of those who do will often remain in a persistent vegetative state.

His recovery journey began after finally waking from a 12-day coma before serious complications arose with the need to induce a second coma. In the following months, he endured severe brain fog, memory loss, breathing problems, in coordination with the left side of my body (my left hand was completely flexed inward), and…he didn’t eat, walk, or talk for months.

Following the acute stages of his brain injury, a dense brain fog, limited mobility, and numerous other difficulties persisted he continued to navigate the physical and emotional toll of his new circumstances. At a pivotal moment, he was introduced to functional medicine, which illuminated for him a different way of looking at recovery. As several treatments, exercises, and therapies were implemented…he began to reclaim the mental clarity I had before my injury.

An enormous amount of work and therapy played in his rehabilitation as he worked to regain everyday faculties and relearned how to live.

In this podcast interview Cavin talks about:

The aftermath of his accident and the process of finding the right modalities for the best chance for a full recovery. How nutrition played a pivotal role in his recovery and the benefits of good nutrition on the brain. His inspiration for writing his book called Feed A Brain.  The benefits of exercise and nutrition on proper brain function. Positive habits that optimize brain function. And so much more.

68. Laurie Warren: Unlock Your Power To Create Health & Joy

68. Laurie Warren: Unlock Your Power To Create Health & Joy

Laurie Warren is passionately committed every day, to educate, inspire, and empower YOU to reclaim your vibrant health. She wants to challenge the life-sucking status quo to help you find better health, more energy, and to live your life authentically. She loves a good laugh and a bit of sass. Who says that health education has to be boring?!

Basically, she helps people and organizations be healthier and happier. Laurie is a speaker, writer, corporate consultant, and clinician - with an approach that’s grounded in three foundational beliefs:

The body is a self-organizing organism that’s hard-wired for healing. Our mind can be used as either a bridge or a barrier in our quest for well-being. What matters most is WHO we are as we move through this world.

Prior to earning an MS in clinical and integrative nutrition, she spent a dozen years in leadership positions in the high-tech industry. This experience has assisted her in being a seasoned ally for corporate clients, helping them to build a progressive wellness culture.

Laurie is excited to talk about her latest book Just released in October,  Wild World, Joyful Heart: Unlock Your Power to Create Health and Joy will be available in October 2019. This book is a culmination of my past three decades of clinical experience, study, and research in the fields of science, psychology, and spiritual evolution.

In this podcast you will be inspired, motivated, educated in these areas:

If you focus on just your body and you don't focus on changing your mind, you will not achieve results. Remove your email from your phone or don't give your private phone number to business associates. Transition your service business from in-person visits to virtual appointments. Why is my body doing that? You won't be happy if you lose 60 pounds unless you change your belief systems or understand why. Most of our belief patterns are developed before we are the age of 7 years old. Notice your thoughts that come up frequently.

"I am a doctor."
Every year, thousands of medical school graduates utter these four simple words. But as you will see in Playing God, earning an M.D. is just the first step to becoming a real physician.

.

In this page-turning, thrilling, and moving memoir, Dr. Anthony Youn reveals that the true metamorphosis from student to doctor occurs not in medical school but in the formative years of residency training and early practice. It is only through actually saving and losing patients, taking on the medical establishment, wrestling with financial and emotional survival, and fighting for patients’ lives that a young doctor becomes a mature and competent physician. Youn takes you from the operating rooms of a university surgery residency program to the gleaming offices of top Beverly Hills plastic surgeons to opening the doors of his empty clinic as a new doctor with no money, no patients, and mountains of debt. Playing God leaves you with an unexpected answer to that profound question: “What does it mean to be a doctor?”

Do you want to feel Empowered, Inspired, and Unstoppable? Ariane Tavakol knows This is who you can be!

Make a decision as simple as "I'm done feeling stuck" will change your life forever!

You just have to be so done with it that nothing or no one will stop you.

You have it all in you!

You just need a hand in helping you see the power that's locked inside of you and make the shifts you need to unleash it.

Ariane supports you with practical, relatable strategies and tools to help you move past the challenges that have been standing in the way of your goals. In this episode Ariane and I discuss:

Life is what we make of it. Imagine life as a beautiful, scrumptious apple ripe enough to be picked. It may not fully be ripe yet but enough to indulge your immediate needs. At first it may taste a bit more sour than you were hoping for but quickly you’ll develop the taste for it and learn to enjoy it. Life is the same. It always brings us what we need the most when we need it. And when a challenge turns up, rather than run away from it. seek the opportunity to learn from it and turn it into a victory.

Seekers are Finders. If your need for change is stronger than your fear of it, you will always find a way, no matter what the circumstance.

When the opportunity knocks on your door, you have to open it. Don’t be afraid of what may lie behind it. Don’t be afraid of taking risks and always ask yourself “what is the worst that could happen” a few times. Chances are you will soon realize that the worst in your mind is actually not that bad.

“Change is a process, not an event” - Mel Robbins. Be patient with yourself. Understand that change happens slowly, one step at a time. You will sometimes have great wins while other times major setbacks. That’s just part of the journey. The only thing that I will ask you is to Never Give Up. Don’t undermine the small wins because after a while the collection of all those wins will make up a huge Victory.

Don’t ever be afraid of being vulnerable and letting others in. Share your story with pride because you don’t know how many people it will help, including yourself. There’s a big power in being seen.

56. Jess:Suchan: Everybody Deserves To Live In Bliss

56. Jess:Suchan: Everybody Deserves To Live In Bliss

She had an obsession with her weight that began in high school when she and her best friend saved up all our lunch money to buy diet pills & the “As Seen on TV” electronic ab belt. She continued this obsession with her weight throughout college where she became so addicted to crash dieting.

This behavior continued into and out of college until she found peace during her travels overseas. Eventually, Jess moved to LA and started a career in event production and marketing.  While she loved the thrill, she grew resentful of the long hours, constant state of stress and inability to find balance and enjoy her life! At this point, she was eating well and maintaining her weight, but began developing debilitating migraine headaches that made it impossible to go to work. Desperate for a solution, she visited several doctors who not only minimized her struggle, but sent her home with heavy-duty painkillers that ended up actually fueling and intensifying the problem!

After weeks without relief, she decided to take matters into her own hands putting herself on a holistic eating plan and completely ridding her system of prescription medications. It was at that point Jess realized the extent to which lifestyle and our decisions around food are interconnected, and she decided to quit her job to pursue a career as a health coach.

Today she is free from diets, migraines and marketing— and she's never been happier! All of her ups and downs led her to create a more balanced life filled with real foods that taste amazing and exercise that's always enjoyable. It's been six years since she lost 40 lbs and broke free from restriction, and she's here in this podcast to share this BLISS with you!

54. Michelle Norris: The Paleo F(x)

Paleo f(x)™ is an organization dedicated to three interrelated goals:

To create the world’s best holistic health and wellness event. To inspire and empower individuals everywhere to find optimal health and flourish. To create a forum where ancestral health ideas can be turned into real world practices that improve human wellbeing.

First and foremost, we are an event. We seek to provide our attendees with a valuable and unforgettable Paleo f(x)™ experience. Our mission includes equipping our attendees not just with the knowledge and insights needed for great health but also with the inspiration and support to act. Finally, Paleo f(x)™ is a forum—the largest of its kind—where the theory of Ancestral Health turns into the practices that allow great health to flourish.

Michelle is a former corporate warrior, trained chef and multi-potentialite whose personal health issues and struggles with traditional medical orthodoxy inspired her to upend the way the world tackles health, wellness and prosperity.  She soon became one of  Paleo’s most outspoken evangelists, then co-founded and is now CEO of Paleo f(x)™, the largest Paleo event in the world.  She’s a passionate speaker, motivator and guiding light to those seeking deliverance from a broken healthcare system and disabled economic system.  Having left the corporate grind far behind, she is now a serial entrepreneur in the health and wellness space, and a tireless firebrand for advancing the Paleo movement; a cultural reawakening of self-empowerment for the 21st century.

Having survived the death of her 22 year old daughter, Michelle knows what it’s like to fight back from overwhelming loss.  Instead of wallowing in self-pity, she used tragedy as a catalyst for her to “put up or shut up”, and follow through with her vision of leaving the economic status quo behind, and becoming a self-made entrepreneur.  All this, at the pit of the housing market crash of 2008.  Her belief, you can always find beauty among the ashes.

50. Maris Degener: "I AM Maris" An Eating Disorder Breakthrough Story on Netflix

50. Maris Degener: "I AM Maris" An Eating Disorder Breakthrough Story on Netflix

Who is Maris?

Maris is light. Maris is love. Maris is open-hearted. Maris is authentic. Maris is vulnerable. Maris is organic. Truthfully...Maris is just Maris!

Maris is a 20 year old college student who is impacting the world with her documentary called I AM Maris. If you scroll through Netflix and search under "new releases" or "trending on Netflix" you'll find her documentary like I did a few weeks ago. After watching her successful breakthrough during a challenging time in her young life to overcome an eating disorder, I was compelled to invite her on my podcast.

Maris and I talk candidly about her childhood growing up near Silicon Valley where achieving very high standards is normal practice, even for kids. The pressure she put on herself to always be "perfect" caused her to go down a dark and dangerous path. She became anxious and too often felt out of control of her emotions. She found the only thing she could control was eating, but she did not do it in a healthy way.

With the intervention from her parents Sharon and Steve, she was admitted into a hospital to help her recover and get professional help to regain her physical and mental health caused from the damage of her diseases, anorexia and bulimia.

Maris took her recovery with the same focus and attitude that she took with everything she had done in her past. But this time the stakes were higher and her life depended on her successful recovery. Although her path on recovery was not easy, and there were too many setbacks to even mention, but Maris recovered and found herself in a Lululemon on a Sunday morning to participate in a free yoga class that was recommended by her Doctors to aid in her recovery.

That Sunday morning yoga class and teacher sparked the beginning of Maris's new passion and mission to spread the healing powers of yoga, whole foods, and mindful living through her blog, teaching practice, Netflix documentary and speaking appearances.

She has been featured by CNN health and across the media being spotlighted for her fearless authenticity and raising awareness of eating disorders and mental health.

This is a must listen to episode if you are dealing with any challenges in life, especially any type of eating disorders or other related health issues brought on by anxiety or stress.

In every person's life, there is someone who stands out as a role model, the outstanding teacher, the person who helped to see things in a different light or someone who disrupts your belief systems to help organize your thinking for more positive outcomes.

For me, one of these people in my life was my high school football coach, Milt Theodosatos. Coach Theo was someone who helped me to see more greatness in myself and achieve what only a few could have the privilege of experiencing as a captain, scarlet hand member and all conference honors.

Not only did he help me to become a great player and leader on the football field, but he helped to instill in me the desire and the grit to push through challenging times to achieve greatness using a positive and special mind set.

Coach Theo has been called the "turnaround coach" by his peers and scholastic influencers because his track record to turn around losing football organizations into championship teams in only a few years.

42. Dr. Kent Sasse: Type II Diabetes Is 100% Reversible

42. Dr. Kent Sasse: Type II Diabetes Is 100% Reversible

Do you or someone you know have Type II Diabetes or is at risk?

The symptoms of diabetes can be very mild. .In fact, of the 29 million people in the U.S. who have diabetes, 8 million are undiagnosed, according to the American Diabetes Association.

Diabetes is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.

If you have Type II Diabetes your body does not use insulin properly. This is called insulin resistance. At first, your pancreas makes extra insulin to make up for it. But, over time it isn't able to keep up and can't make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at normal levels.

Kent C. Sasse, M.D., MPH, FACS, FACRS has a solution that is has a 90% success rate of reversing Type II Diabetes.

In this episode Dr. Sasse answers these questions and so much more:

How is being overweight or obese related to type 2 diabetes?

What are the 5 most important steps you should take if you receive a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes?

What is new in the treatment of type 2 diabetes? How have the guidelines of the American Diabetes Association changed so significantly to recommend surgery?

What are the surgical procedures that completely reverse diabetes?

What are the risks, recovery time, and things everyone should know about metabolic surgery to treat and reverse type 2 diabetes?

What are the risks of heart attack with type 2 diabetes on traditional medical therapy and how much is that risk lowered by a person having metabolic surgery?

What does metabolic surgery - and the fact that it completely reverses type 2 diabetes in most people - tell us about how type 2 diabetes occurs?

Dr. Sasse is the lead surgeon at Sasse Surgical Associates in Reno, NV and the director of the Obesity Prevention Foundation, an not-for-profit organization he founded in 2006 dedicated to the prevention of obesity and excessive weight gain in children and adolescents. Dr. Sasse is a speaker and mentor to surgeons nationwide and hosts cadaver courses on surgical topics including complex abdominal wall reconstruction at the University of Nevada School of Medicine for visiting surgeons. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed research articles recent papers discussing sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic rectopexy, gastric physiology, endoscopic techniques for gastric repairs, and minimally invasive hernia repair.  He is an acclaimed award-winning author of five books, a marathon runner, and father of five. 41. Marlene Siegel, DVM: A Holistic Approach To Care For Your Pet

41. Marlene Siegel, DVM: A Holistic Approach To Care For Your Pet

Dr. Siegel is blending over 30 years experience in clinical practice with 20 years as a leader in integrated veterinary medicine, to bring solutions for the alarming rise in pet dis-ease, particularly chronic degenerative dis-ease’s like cancer.

Dogs currently have the highest rate of cancer of any mammal on the planet.  Current cancer rates in the US for dogs are 1:1.65 and cats are 1:3. Despite advancements in veterinary health care, life expectancy for our precious fur babies is declining over the past 20 years. Dogs are living on average 7 years less than 20 years ago. DIET is one of  the leading causes.

Unable to find a species appropriate balanced pet food that was grass fed, no synthetic ingredients, complete with the essential nutrients and superfoods, Dr. Siegel was inspired to develop a line of diets that could be tailored to the pet’s individual needs. Her formula, EVOLOVE RAW, evolved from 20 years of research, feeding dogs a raw, balanced, organic diet.  Dog’s in the feeding trials showed a significant reduction in diseases including cancer and osteoarthritis.

Dr. Siegel’s passion for alternative medicine began with her quest to heal her own horse, Lilly. A near tragic accident occured with Lilly and Demi, (Dr. Siegel’s youngest daughter), during a horse show.  Traditional western medicine was unable to fix the debilitating problem, but Dr. Siegel was unwilling to accept the equine veterinarians assessment that “nothing more can be done”. Later that same year, in response to receiving a variety of alternative therapies, Lilly carried her young rider to win the United States Youth National Reserve Championship, proving her western doctors that she could recover.

Dr. Siegel inspires audiences around the world with her lectures, educational programs, TV show, webinars, radio and blogs.  Her passion is to educate and empower pet parents to create a lifestyle for themselves and their fur babies so all can thrive, not just survive.

40. Steve Jordan: Am I having a midlife crisis?

40. Steve Jordan: Am I having a midlife crisis?

Am I having a midlife crisis?

Have you ever seen someone go out and buy a brand new Porsche or go get botox injections when they were in their mid 40's or 50's? Chances are you have, and chances are you said, "That person must be having a midlife crisis."

Anyone can have one. They can be short. They can last a few weeks, month or years. Some people might never grow out of one. You see a midlife crisis is a transition of identity and self-confidence that occurs in middle-aged individuals, both men, and woman who are typically between the ages of 35–65 years old. It is a phenomenon described as a psychological crisis brought about by events that highlight:

Age insecurity  The recognition of mortality One's possible shortcomings of accomplishments in their life Maybe someone has never committed to a long term relationship  Or maybe they never had kids

Usually, feelings of depression, remorse, and anxiety are common. The individual struck by a so-called midlife crisis may desire to achieve their youthfulness or make drastic changes to their current lifestyle.

So am I having a midlife crisis? And if not, then what am I experiencing?

In this episode I do my best to be as open and vulnerable as possible to the ongoing questions in my head that keep me up at night, add some stress to my life and is causing me some emotional anguish.

Depression brought on because I feel I am not professionally challenged or working up to my potential. Hopelessness. Questioning everything in my life, and wondering when or what will bring about the change that I am longing for. I discuss these topics and more random thoughts of my current state of mind and emotions.

31. Noah Galloway: An American Soldier Is Living With No Excuses

31. Noah Galloway: An American Soldier Is Living With No Excuses

Sergeant Noah Galloway was assigned to the 1st of the 502nd Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Just three months into his second tour of duty, he experienced a life-changing injury. On December 19, 2005, Galloway lost his left arm above the elbow and left leg above the knee in an Improvised Explosive Device attack. He was transported to Germany to receive medical treatment, remaining unconscious for five days. Galloway woke up late in the evening on Christmas Eve to learn he lost two of his limbs and sustained severe injuries to his right leg and his jaw. Galloway was then transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

After a long stint in recovery and rehabilitation, Galloway did what many disabled veterans do, becoming withdrawn, out of shape and depressed. The former fitness fanatic and hyper-competitive athlete was now drinking, smoking and sleeping his days away. But late one night, Galloway took a long look in the mirror and realized there was more to him than the injuries. And he set a goal to get back in shape, be healthier and inspire others.

Now a fitness expert and motivational speaker, Galloway doesn’t take excuses from his clients, fans, and followers – and finds ways to get things done. He continues to compete, participating in adventure races around the country, such as Tough Mudder, Spartan events, fitness competitions plus numerous 5Ks, 10Ks and marathons.

A sought-after public speaker, Galloway travels the country sharing his story, encouraging and motivating others to offer no excuses. From elementary school assemblies to veterans organizations to corporate sales meetings, Galloway’s enthusiasm for life and his passion for helping others brings a unique perspective to gatherings.

Most recently, Galloway led his team to victory on FOX’s new hit series American Grit, where teams were tested with various military challenges. He also took third place in Season 20 of ABC’s hit series, Dancing With The Stars. Following his appearance on the November cover of Men’s Health Magazine, he was named the publication’s 2014 Ultimate Guy.

He’s also been a guest on numerous national talk shows including Ellen and The Today Show.

30. Dr. Todd Sinett: The Back Relief Diet

30. Dr. Todd Sinett: The Back Relief Diet

Back pain is the number one reason for job disabilities, the third most common reason for hospitalizations, and a driving factor in sufferers seeking risky surgeries and addictive pain medications. We have a pain crisis and yet most doctors are overlooking a simple, non-invasive, all-natural approach that has been proven to eliminate back pain — diet.

Could kale be causing your back pain? Maybe. In THE BACK PAIN RELIEF DIET: The Undiscovered Key to Reducing Inflammation and Eliminating Pain, Dr. Todd Sinett reveals the medical connection between what we eat, gut inflammation and muscular inflammation, resulting in back pain.

Diagnosing and eliminating the foods or combination of foods that are causing gut and muscular inflammation, can cure back pain — without drugs or surgery. And it’s not just “unhealthy foods,” that can cause inflammation: many otherwise healthy foods, even kale, can set off an inflammation cycle in patients. Finding your triggers and eliminating them is the answer to a back pain-free life.

In this episode Dr. Sinett answers these questions and more:

- How is there is a direct link between diet and back pain?
- What are the three causes of chronic inflammation resulting in back
pain?
- How does someone determine whether their back pain is related to diet
or some other cause?
- Are there specific signs or symptoms?
- How did you come up with the meal plans in your book and what tips do
you have for how to use them effectively?
- What are superfoods and how do you use them in the meal plans?

29. Dr. Mariza Snyder: Beat the Hormone Battle

29. Dr. Mariza Snyder: Beat the Hormone Battle

Have your hormones been hijacked? Pollution in our air, chemicals in our food, synthetic estrogens in our beauty products, stress in our emotional lives—coupled with naturally fluctuating and declining hormonal levels as we age--leave women of all ages, even young ones, vulnerable to the consequences.

Hormonal imbalance affects our mood, sleep, weight, energy and even cravings. And the tricky thing about it is that it often sneaks around in the background, wreaking havoc on your health, before you even know it’s there. As a result, doctors may dismiss your symptoms or attribute them to something else entirely, leaving you wondering what is really going on in your body and if you will ever feel normal again.

Dr. Mariza Snyder and her new book THE ESSENTIAL OILS HORMONE SOLUTION are here to help. With her expert guidance, you can create hormone balance naturally, without taking hormones. Dr. Snyder offers several tips from her step-by-step program to reset the body through focused and deliberate changes in daily self-care rituals, aided every step of the way by high-quality essential oils.

In this episode Dr. Snyder answers these questions and offers so much more:
- How can essential oils benefit healthy habits?
- How do women know if their bodies are out of balance?
- Can you pinpoint the hormonal imbalance that causes us to hold onto stubborn weight, or have weight resistance?
- Can emotional factors affect hormone levels and have an effect on weight as well?
- How do you “reset” your hormones, or jump-start your metabolism? And how do essential oils play a role?

The author of the National Bestseller, The Healing Power of Essential Oils, Dr. Eric Zielinski has pioneered natural living and Biblical health education since 2003. Knowing what it's like to be sick from a young age and having recovered from several chronic diseases in his early 20s, he has been on a mission to share the evidence-based approach to natural living that empowered him to regain control of his health with the world. Trained as an aromatherapist, public health researcher and chiropractor, Dr. Z is an accomplished researcher with several publications and conference proceedings.

We are in an absolute health crisis. There's no other way of saying it. The volume of toxins we ingest—through prescription drugs, cleaning products, polluted air, our food supply… they’re killing us! The number of people affected by chronic disease continues to climb unchecked and, for the first time in the modern industrial era, parents are soon expected to outlive their children. Having been failed by the current medical model, an astonishing number of people are “going back to nature.” Millions are investigating natural solutions to their health problems, and essential oils keep coming up again and again. Why? Because they work! Essential oils are exceptionally therapeutic, though, discovering how to use them therapeutically will most likely leave you confused and frustrated.

Dr. Eric Z. will share with you how to make your health a priority with the life-changing benefits of essential oils. Essential oils are the natural solution to everything from anxiety and depression to deep-seated inflammation. In this episode you will learn:

- The top 3 oils you should stock from Day 1.

25. Dr. Joel Kahn: The Whole Heart Solution With Cardiologist

25. Dr. Joel Kahn: The Whole Heart Solution With Cardiologist

Are you feeling like crap? You don’t deserve to feel like that.

The food that you put in your body has a lot to do with how well you function. The food you eat can be medicine.

Your body is incredible in how it can heal itself when you change your eating habits.

My conversation with Dr. Joel Kahn, America's Healthy Heart Doc who is working to transform the healthcare system with food and a healthy lifestyle.

At his core, Dr. Joel Kahn believes that plant-based nutrition is the most powerful source of preventative medicine on the planet. Having practiced traditional cardiology since 1983, it was only after his own commitment to a plant-based vegan diet that he truly began to delve into the realm of non-traditional diagnostic tools, prevention tactics, and nutrition-based recovery protocols. These ideologies led him to change his approach and focus on being a holistic cardiologist.

Dr. Kahn passionately lectures throughout the country about the health benefits of a plant-based anti-aging diet inspiring a new generation of thought leaders to think scientifically and critically about the body’s ability to heal itself through proper nutrition.

One of the world’s top cardiologists, Dr. Joel Kahn has treated thousands of acute heart attacks during his career. He’d like all that to stop. He’d like to prevent ALL future heart attacks by breaking through to the public to educate and inspire a new holistic lifestyle. Now is the time to focus on educating the public to eat clean, sweat clean and apply cutting-edge science to their lifestyle.

Spirulina is a type of algae that has been recognized (along with chlorella) as one of the world’s healthiest foods. With a laundry list of research-backed health benefits, including obesity reduction, cancer prevention, and immune support, it’s no wonder why so many people are turning to spirulina as a source of balanced nutrition. Catharine, Founder & CEO, started ENERGYbits after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would help her heal. She sprung into action to help her sister research alkaline foods and in the process she discovered algae. 9. Nealy Fischer: The Flexible Chef

Nealy, The Flexible Chef is a wife, mom of four, home chef, globe-trotter, yogi, teacher, and founder of The Flexible Chef. She helps clients ditch perfectionism and get flexible. She's not talking about busting out into splits while your chicken is sizzling on the stove! What she really means by “flexible” is learning to let go, giving yourself a break more often, inhaling confidence, and bending the rules so you can live the life you crave both in and out of the kitchen. After 25 years of experimenting with various restrictive diet and fitness fads—like the time she crunched her way through the cracker diet or sipped her way to skinny with the lemonade diet. She learned that living such a rigid life is exhausting. When your willpower is constantly tested, you’ll eventually find yourself elbow deep into a vat of cookie dough. Sound familiar? In the interview Nealy gives helpful tips on how to stay healthy & fit in the kitchen, when you travel and when your managing a family.
