Ep 41: Courageous Choices: Stop calling discrimination an isolated incident with Antoinetta Mosley
In this episode, host Antoinetta Mosley shares her thoughts on discrimination and the tendency of those who do not experience discrimination often to call instances of discrimination isolated events and discredit the victim.
Listen to the episode to hear Antoinetta's thoughts after hearing about Rachel Richardson's claims of discrimination and the use of racial slurs at the Duke University vs. Brigham Young University volleyball (BYU) game in Provo, Utah. Rachel is currently a sophomore at Duke and was a 2021 ACC Academic Honor Roll awardee. Since that volleyball game on August 26th, 2022, there have been a lot of stories published about Rachel's story of hearing a racial slur used. Most recently outlets are reporting that a BYU investigation found no evidence to support Rachel's allegations.
This story serves as a great example of what often happens in workplaces and communities. Antoinetta desires to share her experiences with being called a racial slur starting at 9 years old; she most recently heard people who were not black using the n-word in August 2022. A few years ago, she had to approach someone at a wedding who sang the n-word in a song and discuss that it was inappropriate. This podcast episode is not about choosing sides; it's about shining a light on the experience that many black women in the United States have and helping you realize that many systems are not set up to support or believe black women or those in historically underrepresented groups.

Ep 36: Courageous Leadership Challenge: Create a Personal Mission Statement
In this episode, host, Antoinetta Mosley shares a differentiating tool for change agents and leaders: creating a personal mission statement. Antoinetta estimates that 10% or less of those ages 13 and older have a personal mission statement based on asking audiences of all ages across the country.
For example, when she asked the question in two recent speaking engagements, one with a group of high school and collegiate student athletes and another with community leaders, Antoinetta was the only person who had a personal mission statement. After speaking to the student-athletes, she challenged each of them to create their own mission within 4 days of the speech. 7 completed the challenge! Message from Antoinetta: "Congratulations to Julia, Zaria, Cameron, Ethan, Cameren, AJ, and Brea! By accepting the challenge and creating your first personal mission statement, you have set yourselves apart from 90% of the population. Keep making courageous choices and you will continue to be extraordinary. Really amazing world changing things happen for those that choose to be in that top 10%."
If you are reading this and create your own personal mission statement for the first time or already have one, please send it to info@ifollowtheleader.com by August 5th at 5 pm EST. Ep 34: The Caring Courageous Campaign with Antoinetta Mosley
In this episode, host, Antoinetta Mosley explains what she describes as the 'Caring Courageous Campaign'. Others refer to it as 'The Great Resignation' or 'The Great Reshuffle.' Antoinetta believes that turnover caused by corrosive cultures where employees do not feel a sense of belonging and where equitable and inclusive spaces are lacking, is a result of the ‘Caring Courageous Campaign’.
Some organizations are reaping the benefits of cultivating an equitable and inclusive culture via increased profitability, creativity, and innovation. Others are feeling the effects via increased EEOC complaints, resignation letters, and dysfunctional teams. The great news is that you get to decide which type of organization you want to be. Whether you consider yourself a change agent, leader, or both, courage is a choice. By consistently cultivating courage and having courageous conversations, you can help cultivate equitable and inclusive spaces that are celebrated, not tolerated!
