With both parents as licensed real estate brokers and mortgage lenders, it was a natural evolution to advise clients on real estate transactions.

Benjamin qualified as a Barrister and was called to the bar in New Zealand. Did he ever imagine he'd be in sales, let alone teaching it? Nope.
Very few people wanted to be in sales as a kid (there's always the odd exception, so bully for you!). They wanted to be astronauts, lawyers, doctors etc - so what happened, how did they end up in sales?
They grew up, got a degree in Sports Psychology and realised that in the real world no-one would pay them for that knowledge.
They needed a job. Who's always hiring? That's right, Sales.
They're young, thin, look good in a suit and can string a sentence together whilst not dribbling in the interview. That's all you need to qualify as a sales professional. So, the fact most people are doing a role that deep down they never wanted to do explains why so many are mediocre to average, at best.
That hurts, but it’s also true. This is why he’s hated!

Bob was Chairman and Founding Partner of Massey Knakal Realty Services, New York’s #1 building sales firm. He started his real estate career in 1984 at CB Richard Ellis where he met Paul J. Massey Jr. They both left CB in 1988 to form Massey Knakal.
From 1988 through 2014, Massey Knakal closed over 6,000 transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $23 billion. To date, Bob has been personally responsible for the sale of over 2,000 buildings (generally considered to be the highest total ever for a single broker in New York) and over $18 billion in sales.
In 2014, Cushman & Wakefield acquired Massey Knakal. At Cushman & Wakefield, Bob acted as Chairman of New York Investment Sales. He was ranked the top originating investment sales broker at Cushman & Wakefield, globally, in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Bob joined JLL in September of 2018.
Since 2009, Bob has written a weekly column on the New York City Real Estate Market called Concrete Thoughts for the Commercial Observer.

About Anand:
Anand Pye is the Executive Director of NAIOP, Edmonton’s commercial real estate development association. There, he leads the organization’s advocacy agenda, connecting developers with political leaders locally and around Canada.
Working with developers of office, retail, mixed-use and industrial buildings, Anand leads the creation of education programs in commercial real estate, mentorship programs for the industry, and over 20 networking events a year.
Anand is currently the vice-chair of the Downtown Recovery Coalition. The group of 25 community leaders advocates for the importance of downtown, and specific improvements to: Safety & security; cleanliness & maintenance, and creating more unique amenities downtown.
Through these roles Anand has worked with many great community leaders in Edmonton, and gained a deep understanding of the connection between real estate, our community, and city building.

Mr. Rood transitioned to brokerage after a career in commercial real estate law in Jacksonville, having practiced as a senior associate with the large Florida-based law firm GrayRobinson, PA and then as a sole practitioner. He has unique and highly relevant experience; for example, he served as the sole counsel to the owner of a four-property, 15-tenant industrial portfolio in Jacksonville, negotiating all of its leases and renewals for three years, before successfully providing all legal guidance in the portfolio’s complex $38M sale.

Even more importantly, self-storage could also provide an asset class which is, for all intents and purposes, “recession-resistant”.
