This week on Insights with Experts, we were fortunate enough to have an interview with Byron Dempsey. Byron is the founder of Stream Digital Marketing, a content creation agency and the host of the Driven Young podcast, a podcast that aims to educate and to inspire the younger generation.

Shaun Gold is a serial entrepreneur, best selling author and a guest speaker. Shaun is involved in many other things in his life which makes him the ultimate guest to give advice on finding a pathway and dealing with rejection.    In this interview, we explored the topics of hustling, being an outsider and how to create a network.  Shaun started off the interview with exploring the question "What comes first?", comparing it to the scenario of the chicken and the egg. Shaun cannot pinpoint a time in his life when everything started taking off. This was the start of her love for investment and VC as she witnessed professionals believe in the small scale business and make it successful.

Natasha is currently working at a tech magazine called TechCrunch. Graduated from Boston University, Natasha has always had a passion for writing so choosing her career path was pretty easy. Through his Influencer Dinners, Jon tries to unite people from different parts of the world and work fields to nurture better relationships. Lucas Steuber is a Clinical Business Manager at Verge Learning as well as the Director of Clinical Product and Marketing at Cognixion. Born in the States, Lucas is a linguist and speech pathologist. Working alongside technological advancements, Lucas creates devices to help with speech impairments.

Molina Asthana is the Vice President at the Law Institute of Victoria, Australia. Molina is on the board of Directors at Gymnastics Victoria and Good Shepard. Molina is also part of a lot of different leadership roles in Australia.

Jeremy Jacobs is the co-founder and managing director of Raise Bakery in the United Kingdom. Jeremy worked in a digital media company until 2009 after which, his family started a bakery. Starting off as a business to customer (B2C) company and then growing to business to business (B2B) through working with Virgin Atlantic, Raise Bakery has been adapting to scenarios of the world for a lot of it's time.

Raghvi is a third year student at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, United Kingdom. She is currently studying Economics. Raghvi is an interesting guest on this podcast because she is so young and so successful. Being in her third year, she has done various different internships including working for Citi Bank and McKinsey. She took advantage of Spring Week during her course in order to build up her CV. She is currently a VC Scout with Open Scout.

Vincent is a researcher and founder in Australia who created a new design of antioxidants that can be used for humans. This is called activated phenolics, made out of apples. Vincent shared his journey of moving from Indonesia to Australia in 2008 for his Bachelors degree to continuing in the science field and creating a new form of benefiting the body.

Vannary Kong is the founder of the United States - ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Youth Council. Based in the United States, Vannary has participated in a number of different initiatives surrounding International Relations. She has also been successful in internships with the United Nations as well as working with local authorities on various policies.

Sarah Ichioka is an urbanist who is currently head of Desire Lines in Singapore. This company consulates different initiatives in terms of socio-economic and environment decisions. She is originally from the United States and completed her Bachelors degree there before moving to the UK for her Masters and staying there for a while to continue her professional journey.

Santosh More is the co-founder of Mantra4Change. This is an initiative that works to help make education in India accessible to all. Santosh has a degree in Engineering but over his years in the corporate world, he felt that he wanted to do something he is passionate about.

Hossein Rezai is the director of Web Structures and the Milan Research Lab. He is a structural engineer and architect. He has been in the business for a very long time. Engineering has been an interest of Hossein from a very young age as he was interested in the infrastructure that we operate in. This interest made him want to be a part of that movement. His speciality at the moment is ‘fusion engineering’ which is essentially the mix between the different ends of the design spectrum.

Joel Lim graduated from MTU 2 years ago. There he studies communications as well as visual communications. After graduating, Joel started working in a social media PR agency. Over the last year, some of his content on social media surrounding the GE2020 in Singapore went viral and from there, Joel decided to pursue that.

Andrew Mitson has been featured twice in Forbes 30 under 30 for all his amazing achievements. Having studied in the London School of Economics after leaving school at 16 and self teaching his A Levels, Andrew has also taught there, winning LSE Class Teacher Award. Andrew worked and founded many companies such as InstaCourse, Up Learn and UniRise.

Bjorn Low is the Executive Director of Edible Garden City in Singapore. He is also a PhD candidate in RMIT. Bjorn was also the finalist for the 2018 Singaporean of the Year award.

Romina is a business design consultant at the Chemistry Team. She is also the founder and blogger at Blaastyle. She was born in Switzerland but has a base in Singapore. After university and many experiences with brands and events, Romina has decided to make blogging and content creation, her full time job.

Caroline Tran is the co founder and CEO of Aircrex. Is an online banking program that helps people keep full track of their expenses and allows people to achieve their goals quicker. Caroline worked in commercial finance for the past 8 years. She is also a qualified CPA. Caroline has also worked for a lot of corporates as well as universities across Australia.

Goh Jing Rong has kickstarted many different projects and has been part of various programs. He is the director of Risk Lighthouse and co-Founder of Anapi. He is also working in a social enterprise which works on connecting people who need help with people who can provide the help in light of Covid-19.

Henry Langdon is the founder of Udamon. Henry’s background is education so he has designed and ran various educational programmes. Udamon is a platform that enables career starters and changes and shapes their decisions in life.

David Christmas has done many things over his lifetime. He has been in multiple leadership roles in businesses such as Royal Mail and DHL. Currently he is on the global logistics board and is the head of logistics in Asia Pacific at DB Schenker.

Nathaniel is the current CEO and Founder of Future Minds Network. It’s a network that aims to help the youth who are struggling with unemployment. Nathaniel is also on various non for profit boards and takes part in mentorship coordinating with a variety of credible organisations.

Stephen has done various things over his life. Currently, he is the managing director at ProperT Network.

Lye Yee has done many things in her life. Lye is a supply chain professional which means that she works in managing and understanding all areas of the supply chain including logistics, purchasing and movement control. Lye Yee grew up in Singapore and went to New Zealand for her studies.

Julien Leyre is a writer, educator and mentor. He started up numerous initiatives over his lifetime. He is a founder and is currently working at the Founders of Governors Agency (FoGA).

Michael Huskii is founder of Asian Heritage Ay You as well as Valyou Xchange. Asian Heritage Ay You is a media production company which empowers Asian community leaders, creatives, entrepreneurs and risk-takers to celebrate Asian Heritage Month in Australia. He is also a current board member of Shoebox Ventures.

Tim Davis is the author of TRIPOLAR: The Story of a Bipolar Triathlete, which chronicles his journey from childhood trauma into multiple addictions until finally recovering and discovering triathlons and ultrarunning as important tools to help him stay sober and in recovery.  He is a high school science teacher and coach in Los Angeles, CA.  He’s happily married with 3 amazing children.  He has been competing and coaching in triathlons and endurance races for over two decades.  He has completed 12 Ironman triathlons, seven 100-mile endurance runs, 1 double-ironman triathlon, and several 24 hour races. Jiye Seong-Yu is a strategic advisor to the Human Rights Foundation, where she manages Flash Drives for Freedom. Flash Drives for Freedom collects USB thumb drives and fills them with outside information to be smuggled back into the DPRK; hopefully countering some of the state-led propaganda.

Johannes has centered his life around three main aspects; Consulting, Coaching and People. After studying consumer psychology in LMU Germany, Johannes went on to pursue work in the fields of business, manufacturing and consulting. Even afterwards, he got an MSc in Coaching and Consulting from the HEC school of management and Oxford University. Jacob Ner-david started in tech as CEO of Ambient, Inc., Executive Chairman  of Delta Three, Inc., CEO of NomadIQ, CEO of Zula, Inc., and investor in many others. Pursuing an interest in wine, he co-founded Jazreel Valley Winery. Since then, he has started Vinsent, an ecommerce marketplace for boutique wineries to sell Direct to Consumer, and Vinoventures, a trading fund centered on fine wines.

Daniel Gefen is a podcast host with over 250,000 downloads. He is also founder of Gefen Media Group; a podcast booking agency. In addition, he is a co-founder of podbooker.com, a platform to connect podcasts and potential guests. Having written ‘The self help addict’, Daniel is also an international bestselling author.

Chris Anthony got his start in engineering before transitioning to tech. After 18yrs in the information technology sector at firms such as Cismo, Chris started Teacher on Wheels; an organisation that aspires to train youths for the future of the workplace. Teacher on Wheels is a registered charity in Australia and has a presence in over four continents offering students from a diverse range of backgrounds an opportunity to excel.

Caryn Sowa is the current program manager at the freedom project at Wellesley college. She got her start in events management which eventually led to her working in companies such as the New England Patriots, Disney and the Boston theatre. Wanting a change of pace, Caryn switched to Academia where she is currently the program manager at the Freedom Project, a program which aims to promote conversations and boundary-breaking on campus for a plethora of issues related to freedom in all of its manifestations. Deeya Bajaj is an internationally-recognized adventurer, speaker, business leader and founder of the non-profit, “Ganga Vatika Home for Girls”. She has summitted the highest mountains in 6 of the 7 continents of the world: including Mt Everest and Mt Kilimanjaro. She holds the distinction of being the first Indian father-daughter duo to submit Mt Everest. Additionally, she holds the record alongside her father as the first Indians to ski across the Greenland ice caps among numerous other amazing accomplishments. In this interview, we will learn about her journey and what the youth can take away from it.

Mr Jack Sim, or globally known as ‘Mr Toilet’, is the founder of the World Toilet Organisation (WTO). By the age of 40, he had set up 16 profitable businesses and chose to retire, switching his focus to pursuing more social work. In this time, he had Founded the Restroom Association of Singapore in 1998. World Toilet Organisation in 2001 and created the UN World Toilet Day (19 November) which is recognized by all 193 UN member states.

Dan Swift is CEO of Empire Selling, a digital sales training and transformation company. Dan has over 20 years of leadership experience spanning sales, marketing, and business development, having successfully launched LinkedIn’s flagship product Sales Navigator and catapulted social media management technology Sprinklr to a $2bn valuation. With an emphasis on ‘bringing the human back’ to business, he believes that business leaders can be successful without sacrificing empathy.

Mr Foakes is an explorer, environmentalist and outdoor education coordinator. Currently acting as head of outdoor education for Tanglin Trust School, Foakes has a long history of developing and delivering outdoor and adventure experiences for students of all ages. These of which involve activities such as Rocking Climbing, Caving, Trekking and Wild Camping. Through embarking on expeditions in places such as Antarctica and Myanmar, Mr Foakes advocates what he learns along these trips to build a more informed youth community through various platforms. In this interview we will be learning about Mr Foakes’s journey as well as what the youth can take away from it.

Khayla black is a 3rd year student at NYU Shanghai studying Biology. Picking up on her childhood interest in science and biology, Khalya went on to join the International Youth Neuroscience Association( IYNA). Over the years, she has risen through the ranks to her current position where she is CEO of the IYNA. Through this interview, we will learn about her journey and how the youth can leverage her lessons for their future.

Michael Skok currently acts as a Founding Partner at Underscore VC. A serial entrepreneur turned investor, he also engages in mentoring, coaching and learning through numerous channels, specifically  as an ‘Entrepreneur in Residence’ at Harvard Business School and through his Startup Secrets work. Throughout Michael’s life, he has engaged in numerous experiences and worked with a variety of startups. Michael's main field of focus lies on breakthrough technologies and disruptive business models such as Saas, Cloud, Open Source and Blockchain. Throughout this interview, we will explore these amazing experiences and see what the youth can take away from them.

Currently leading the Asia Pacific revenue operations with full P&L responsibility covering 13 offices in 10 countries, Chu focuses to grow market share, revenue and profit, build and nurture strong lasting relationships with senior business leaders.

Alessandra Tam is a passionate and highly motivated individual currently working at OWN Academy where she helps to transform the way education is viewed by bridging students to professionals. In terms of her education, she graduated from Oxford in 2016 after studying Archaeology and Anthropology. It was from here she went on to pursue a wide range of experiences such as event management. Before joining OWN Academy, Alessandra acted as a successful Senior Account Executive at Proof contact where she operated in the furniture industry. Through this interview, we got an exciting insight into her ambitions at OWN Academy as well as the lessons students can take from her journey.

It was Queen's University Belfast where Heather Stevens first embarked on her journey in law. After graduating with the Lord Chief justice’s Prize for highest overall marks, she then started to pursue numerous work experiences such as taking on the role of the Head of Human Rights Unit at the Office of the First Minister in Belfast. Soon after, she was selected for the Yale World Fellows Program. Back in Ireland, Mrs Stevens took on the role of being responsible for advising Government Ministers on all issues concerning the health and social care workforce. This included making decisions on a number of health professionals and ensuring that the budget of 98 million GBP was accounted for. Heather Stevens is currently situated in Marlborough College Malaysia, where she plays a marketing and representational role as well as chairing the Charities Committee which co-ordinates the College's outreach activity. She also delivers leadership programs for the college prefects.

Mrs Joanna (Jo) Tyrer has over 25 years of experience in the IT sector. She was recently nominated for the 2020 Women in IT award and primarily specialises in business transformation. Over the years, she has worked in Europe and Asia Pacific with many different IT companies and currently runs a French HQ software company based in Singapore. In terms of her education, she read Major Spanish and Minor French at Newcastle University and holds an executive MBA from INSEAD Paris. Through this interview, we wish to learn about her journey and how students can use her lessons to prepare for the 21st century workplace.

From science to entrepreneurship, Chun Kit Choi has immersed himself in a wide variety of initiatives. In 2018, he graduated from the National University of Singapore after studying Physics. This came after he had previously spent two years in the Singapore army reaching the rank of Lieutenant as an Air Warfare Officer. In addition, Chun has taken on numerous student initiatives. This included roles such as being lead organizer of ‘Startup Weekend’ as well as acting as Vice President of the NUS Young Entrepreneurs Association. However, what arguably sets Chun apart is his ability to learn through a variety of diverse work experiences. When it comes to internships, there are not many people who could give better advice in fulfilling our potential. While taking on several high profile internships in the past, his most recent situated him at Salesforce.

In this episode, we were very lucky to interview Sanjay Krishnan, Co-Founder and CEO at Lithium Urban Technologies, a global superpower in sustainable urban mobility that currently holds the world's largest commercial EV fleet (outside of China) and operates India’s largest charging infrastructure. Lithium Urban Technologies has helped to abate over 20,000 MT of CO2 and provided valuable solutions to urban mobility for over 5,000 families. Sanjay has won numerous prestigious awards such as the Financial Times Awards (London) Best Global Transformational Business, Aegis-Graham Bell Awards and many more. Sanjay has over 25 years in various leadership and corporate roles, Lithium is currently Sanjay’s third startup after India.com and Comfort India.

In this episode, we were lucky enough to interview Myra Lee, a former Team Singapore National diver . In 2010, she competed in the inaugural Youth Olympics Games held in Singapore. In her event, she managed to persevere past a back injury she faced in the Girls 10m and made it to the finals. In 2013, Myra took part in the SEA Games and won a bronze medal. She subsequently took home the silver medal in the Women's synchronized 10m platform at the 2015 and 2017 SEA Games. Myra is currently situated in a successful corporate role. In this interview, we find out how the skills she learnt as an athlete benefited her in this corporate role among various other advice!

In this episode, we were lucky enough to speak to Alyne Tamir, an influencer with over 2 million followers on Facebook, roughly 300,000 on Instagram, and many more across the internet. Using her platform to educate and empower, we explored the world of social media through her lens.

In this episode, Discere interviewed Priya Krishnan, founder of KLAY, the largest owned pre-school chain in India with over 200 centres. KLAY has enabled over 20,000 women to get back into the workforce. In addition, KLAY also employed 3,500 women in its GPW Top 100 team. Priya has won numerous awards, some of them include ET Startup Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 and ET NOW Business Leader of the Year 2020. Beyond entrepreneurship, Priya has over 20 years of experience in numerous strategic, corporate and leadership roles which spans across multiple continents.
