Imagine...You have had a difficult family break-up struggling with having a breakdown and suicidal depression. You go to Cambodia to get some space and the universe says you also need a heart attack whilst riding your motorbike.
The only way to get to the nearest hospital is an 8 hour black comedy journey starting with getting back on the bike and ride the 20km, hoping you can make it.
Two days later you get to read the obituaries of someone you knew, who had a heart attack on the same day as yours.
The 8 hour journey to hospital, which was so crazy it was hilarious and it showed Damon he didn't really want to die, he just didn't know how to find the meaning of life. Reading the obituaries of an inspiring person gave Damon the inspiration to create a life of meaning instead.
Fast forward 5 years and Damon McDonald has written a kids book "Iam Awesome, Who are you?" inspired by his own journey and the concept of the Hero's Journey explained by the comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell. He wrote it as he believes the message he received was the gift for inspiring others to believe in who they see in the mirror as Damon had to and find their way in the world and live with the challenges that they encounter under the guidance of the hero's journey road map.
The book is called, "Iam Awesome, Who are you?" written and inspired while living by Lake Macquarie after Damon relocated there to create his new life. He wants to use the book to raise $1 Million for charities that benefit kids.
