EP 5 Lee Phyiscal Therpaist with POTS & long haul COVID.
Lee is a physical therapist who has suffered from POTS most of her life.
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a condition that affects blood flow. POTS causes the development of symptoms -- usually lightheadedness, fainting and an uncomfortable, rapid increase in heartbeat -- that come on when standing up from a reclining position and relieved by sitting or lying back down.
Many people who have had COVID19 are now affected by POTS symptoms.
Lee shares what it has been like having her POTS symptoms exasperated as a result of COVID, and gives great tips on how to exercise safely when recovering from COVID.

Lee's website has videos that talk about her personal and professional journey with POTS along with a question and answer video on the program itself.
It is a five day a week, five month exercise program that starts at the basics for those who want to manage their POTS symptoms.
Research shows that exercise benefits those with POTS 2 ways :
1- it builds blood volume and
2- It increases muscle strength in the legs and core which will help compress lower body blood vessels.
This will help to push pooling blood back up to the heart and brain.
Ultimately, it will help decrease many POTS symptoms in standing. It is a long term management approach to POTS which unfortunately is very common after COVID infection.
Anyone can follow Lee on Facebook for information and education at “exercise with POTS”.

Ep 1. Why Real COVID Stories?
When I was going through the worst of COVID, I felt alone, isolated & misunderstood.
No-one I knew was experiencing anything like I was.
Then I read an article about Professor Paul Garner (Prof of infectious diseases), describing his experiences with Corona Virus & realised there were others like me.
"He had a muggy head, upset stomach, tinnitus, pins and needles, breathlessness, dizziness and arthritis in the hands. Each time Garner thought he was getting better the illness roared back. It was a sort of virus snakes and ladders. “It’s deeply frustrating. A lot of people start doubting themselves,” he says. “Their partners wonder if there is something psychologically wrong with them.”"

Paul Garner started the first "long hauler" support group, but it took me a while to find one myself.
Since joining the group I have realised that many people are not being listened to - they are called hypochondriacs, crazy or told they are just suffering anxiety.
These stories need to be heard. So that others don't feel so alone & so loved ones of people going through this, may understand.
