 As an impoverished teenager in rural Missouri, she launched several successful businesses before putting herself through the University of Missouri biochemistry program by working three jobs at once and selling all her possessions.

She worked for 15 years in academic and industrial research laboratories before spending the next 20 years raising a brood of four active spawn.

When we are still, we eliminate distractions and can focus our attention inward, allowing us to become more aware of our thoughts and feelings.

We can observe our surroundings with greater clarity, taking in more details and becoming more aware of our environment.

Stillness helps to calm the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety, which in turn allows us to be more present and aware of our current state.

When practising stillness regularly we can develop a greater sense of self-awareness, enabling us to identify and work on areas for personal growth.

Stillness allows us to be more open to new experiences and ideas, as preconceived notions or judgments are seen and released more easily.

Being still can help us tap into our intuition, connecting us with our inner voice and enabling us to make better decisions.

Stillness can enhance our ability to listen, as we are more focused and attentive to the speaker, allowing us to truly hear what is being said.

When practising stillness, we can cultivate a greater sense of empathy and understanding, enabling us to connect more deeply with others.

Stillness can lead to greater creativity, allowing our minds to wander and generate new ideas.

And lastly, by being still, we can develop a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the present moment, enabling us to live more fully and consciously.

So, as you can see, stillness is not just about physical inactivity, it is a powerful tool for developing greater awareness in all areas of our lives.
