We will cover some of these moments and please understand they cover broad range in the long history of college football. From the desolate to the tragic, from the lighthearted to the serious and then from ugly on field performances to heart-breaking deaths both on and off the field, we cover moments in and around the gridiron history of CFB difficult to discuss, never to be forgotten, and hopefully never to be repeated. Three points before we begin. 1st: This is in no way was a complete list. 2nd We will cover these events in chronological order, numbering them 1 to 35. And this brings us to point No. 3. We are not giving credence to order, in other words, understand that we are not comparing these events.

There were moments in CFB that were difficult to watch, hard to comprehend and we knew we never wanted to see them again. We will cover some of these moments and please understand they cover broad range in the long history of college football. From the desolate to the tragic, from the lighthearted to the serious and then from ugly on field performances to heart-breaking deaths both on and off the field, we cover moments in and around the gridiron history of CFB difficult to discuss, never to be forgotten, and hopefully never to be repeated. Today we discuss legendary coach Mike Donahue, Auburn Tigers, 1904-06 & 1908-1922. Mike Donahue coached the Auburn Tigers for 18 seasons, for all but one year from 1904-1922 and compiled a 99-35-5, winning 73% of his games. He forged two legendary teams, one national championship, another that was un-scored upon, a 23-game beaten streak, and an epic upset.

Today we remember the now defunct Bluebonnet Bowl. There once was a time when in the state of Texas, in the city of Houston, a team from Texas more often than not faced off against all comers. The bowl rose in popularity on the 1960s, and then by the 1980s, attendance dwindled. And finally, the bowl became just another defunct bowl. But, there was a time.

Today we discuss the 1994 Penn State Nittany Lions, one of the greatest teams of all-time who did not win a national championship. The Penn State Nittany Lions were 12-0, led the nation in scoring, 47-ppg, and boasted the number 2 and 4 players in Heisman balloting. 

Today we discuss the mysterious 12th man who came out of the stands to play defense for Dartmouth against Princeton in 1935. In the long history of Princeton Tiger football, no game was as strange as the game when on Nov 23, 1935, a fan suddenly jumped out of the end zone stands to play defense for Dartmouth to try and stuff Princeton at the goal line.

Today we discuss the two-game NCAA record rushing barrage by Rueben Mayes, Washington State Cougars. Reuben Mayes, the 6-foot, 208-pound junior from North Battleford, Saskatchewan, rushed for 216 yards in a game where the Cougars scored a whirlwind of 35 points in just 15:14 seconds of game time, and then Mayes topped that achievement the next week as he set an NCAA rushing record of 357 yards and in doing so, set another NCAA record, rushing yards in consecutive games, 573 yards.

Today we discuss legendary coach Eddie Hurt, Morgan State Bears, who compiled a 57 game unbeaten streak from 1931-1938, posting a 54-0-3 record, 57 games without a loss. In this time span, his Bears won 2 HBCU national championships. In 1943, Coach Hurt 1943 team went undefeated-untied-unscored upon. In all, coach Hurt’s Bears won 6 HBCU National Championships in a 17-year span from 1933-1949, including 3 in 4 years from 1943-1946. And his Bears won 14 CIAA conference championships from in a 27-year span. 1930-1956.

Today we discuss the Houston Cougars from 1962 to 1992, an offensive machine like no other in modern day college football. Bill Yeoman coached the Cougars from 1962-1986, He was followed by Jack Pardee, 1987-1989 and then by John Jenkins 1990-1992. For this 30-year stretch, these 3 coaches put up numbers, points, yards and touchdowns at a frantic, phrenetic rate.

For 5 seasons, from 1920 to 1924, the Golden Bears won 4 consecutive national championships and posted 5 consecutive unbeaten seasons.

For 5 seasons, from 1901 to 1905, the domination Michigan Wolverines unleashed on an unsuspecting nation remains today unparalleled the annals of CFB.

On Oct 26, 2013, Western Connecticut State Colonials’ HB Octavias McKoy set an NCAA single-game rushing record, rushing for 455-yds in a 55-35 defeat of the Worcester State Lancers.
