#127 - Mentally Reviewing As A Compulsion in OCD and Anxiety
In this episode, I discuss one of the most common rituals and safety behaviors in OCD and anxiety: mental review. While we all engage in the process of mentally reviewing old conversations and past events from time to time, when you have OCD and anxiety, this process can feel uncontrollable and lead to significant impairment and distress.
I also talk about..
Examples of mental review and why giving into this behavior actually makes your OCD and anxiety worse over time What to do instead of mentally reviewing and how to become more aware of it in the moment Quick tips and strategies to feel overall more in control of your compulsions, even mental onesLike this episode? #126 - Why OCD Gets Misdiagnosed
Research shows that, up to 80% of the time, professionals will misdiagnose OCD when it is not a clear-cut, conventional subtype or manifestation (e.g., fear of germs, needing to have things be perfect). The frequency with which OCD is misdiagnosed has devastating and significant impacts. In this episode, I talk about why OCD gets misdiagnosed so often and what we can possibly do to reduce this issue.
I also talk about..
How societal beliefs and interpretations of OCD have changed over time Specific ways in which you can advocate to others regarding misdiagnosis and misinformation Systemic issues that directly cause this problem in the first placeLike this podcast? Check out these similar episodes:

#14 - Law of Attraction and Mental Health - Contradictory or Complementary?
In this episode, I discuss the battle between spirituality (e.g. law of attraction) and mental health (e.g, thought action fusion/magical thinking) concepts, and how it is that some individuals can find the law of attraction so triggering while others find it immensely helpful. I talk about how I think spirituality and mental health treatment can be complementary to one another, and how law of attraction can actually support the process of Exposure and Response Prevention. You'll hear my thoughts on how to respond to "triggering" information and how to be more flexible and adaptable to the world around you.
