106: Letting Go as the Snow Melts
As timing would have it, I’m currently teaching Chakra 2 (water element) in my online course, Chakra Savvy. The metaphor of water and our emotional self was everywhere last week! And it helped me make one important decision.

105 Yoga Therapy Found Her Voice
Do you know what yoga therapy is or how it works? Over the next few episodes, I will be sharing with you some of my clients stories and their greatest successes. It’s a misnomer that Yoga has to take an hour of your life every day to feel better. Small bits and pieces throughout the day, or just a short 15 to 20 minute yoga practice, are all you need to feel better, be more balanced, reduce symptoms of chronic disease and chronic pain, and get more joy out of life. In this episode, learn about one woman’s struggle to find her voice and what we did to help her get there.

104: Releasing Tension with Long Exhales
Didn’t it feel like we were all holding our breath, living in tension, until the inauguration? Warnings of danger and violence will grab our “lizard brain” and cause us to do what we normally wouldn’t, like hold our breath. Long exhales signify a relaxed state, and creating them with pranayama is a great way to move from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest.
Fold this into your daily routine and start accumulating benefits right away:
Better sleep
Better digestion
Lower stress response
Deeper presence
Calmer mood
And let me know how it goes! I guide you through it in this week’s podcast, so grab 10 minutes, take a break, and get calm and centered right away.
May you breathe easy today and everyday.

On January 11 we kicked off Virtual Open House, 2021! This has been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled we are underway. We are starting right at the beginning, with embodiment. In this podcast episode, I give you a sneak peek into our course as we get centered to begin our journey through the chakras.

102: Open to Possibility
I think we’ve all acknowledged that 2020 hit us like a mack truck in every chakra. So now we can make our new year's resolutions and get back on track at being better and setting goals! Right?! Well...I’m gonna say, not so fast.
I believe there is a way to stay open to possibilities, yet lay the groundwork for a new year, or even a new chapter or new way of being. Because this life is a co-creation, we need a “both/and” approach to creating the life we want to lead. We need to ask the right questions, listen for wisdom’s answers, and then apply right effort to what is ours to do in this world.
This takes time. We need a way to do this mindfully, with compassion and grace. We need a game plan.

99: Vedic Astrology: How it impacts YOU
Do you ever get the sense that something is pushing and pulling, blocking and advancing you? Do you notice that some times you are rocking and rolling and others you can’t think straight enough to do simple tasks easily and efficiently? There could be many reasons on any given day, like your food intake, the amount of sleep you got the night before, hormone fluctuations, etc. But sometimes it’s bigger than that. Sometimes you are a little more at the whim of energy that’s WAY bigger than your food and sleep. It’s the weather beyond the sky--it’s the weather of the planets.
I have a real treat for us today, which is a great conversation I had recently with my friend, colleague, and go-to Vedic Astrologer, Tej Arvind. She’s here to share with us a little bit about Vedic astrology in general, as well as the
3 Ways Vedic Astrology can impact your life.
1. It's validating.
2. It tells you your tendencies.
3. It can help you time important events.
I’ve been going to Tej for all things planets for several years now, and I think you’ll enjoy this conversation as she dispels myths and makes distant planets feel close to home. We hope you want to join us for our exciting journey through the chakras and planets happening live on zoom for the winter solstice, December 20. The workshop is titled:

Go to jessgoulding.com/renew for registration, or find the link on the events page of my website, jessgoulding.com. You will get access to the recording within 24 hours of the event.
Also, my Hatha chakra series continues through this month and it’s not too late to join! This week we ignite our will in chakra three and open our hearts with chakra four practices. You’ll have access to all the chakra classes in your library of class recordings long enough to get you through the holidays! 98: My 7 Favorite Moves to Balance Your Chakras
Today we get right to the work of energizing and grounding each chakra with a quick-reset of movement and breath.
Over my last 15+ years of teaching, the number one question I get from students is, “When are you going to teach the chakra series again?” Well my friends, I certainly won’t let this year go by without once again guiding us through “the architecture of our soul." If you’ve never been exposed to or worked closely with the chakra system, you are going to LOVE it. Ever since I started looking at my life and my priorities through the lens of the chakras, I am more in tune with and accepting of my life, as well as more empowered to create positive change and achieve lasting results.
If you would like a primer to prepare, or just want to brush up on the wisdom of the system, start with Chakra 1 on November 19, 2018: https://anchor.fm/jessica-goulding/episodes/Chakra-1-Root-Support-e2k34v/a-aeqbmp
Or check out my Chakras Podcast Bundle page at https://www.jessgoulding.com/chakras-podcast I’ve simply collected those 7 chakras podcast episodes into one convenient place for you to listen. There is also a beautiful Chakra Savvy Cheat Sheet PDF for you to download and keep so you can have the chakra basics at your fingertips.

97: Who are all those voices in your head?
I came across this one line from the book Big Change, Small Groups, by Heather Zempel, and it cut into my heart immediately:
"Everybody needs someone who knows their name and knows what's happening in their life."
I think for many of us, this is what we remember at Thanksgiving and other seasonal holidays that are quickly approaching. These are often the times we are with these special people. They are the ones who show up at weddings and funerals, at parties and quiet walks or weekly phone calls.
It's about having a WITNESS.
In today's episode, explore the facets of your mind that make up your inner experience, and learn who your constant witness really is.

96: The 3 R's of Surviving and Thriving in Transition
Transition is all around us: our presidency in the U.S., the season of Autumn, and we're closing in on the end of a very intense year. I sat down to remember some of my favorite yoga teachings about maintaining balance in transition, and I've distilled them into three R's:
- ROUTINE
- REMEMBER
- REALISTIC

91: Rituals for Release on this Halloween Full Moon
Halloween is coming this week, and I’ve been thinking about things that haunt. Not spirits, in this case, but haunts from the past. Old experiences, relationships, and patterns that appear from time to time to hijack our present happiness. Sometimes we know exactly what they are, but quite often we feel off, or sad, or anxious, and we just don’t know exactly why. Today, I’m talking about ways to release these dark haunts and live into the bright truth of your abundant life.

90: The 3 Most Important Cues for Yoga Asana
I love good alignment cues. I love finding tiny little adjustments to a posture that have big benefits and “aha moments.” I love it when one principle applies to a broad range of postures and their accessibility. So today I’m going to share with you the three yoga asana cues that I believe are the most valuable in any pose or class. You don’t have to be an experienced yogi to benefit from what I’m going to share with you today. In fact, these three cues are helpful even if you never step on a yoga mat!

85: 5 Questions to Ask Yourself When Deciding on Your Online Yoga Classes
Now that so many yoga classes have moved online, it can be very hard to choose which to take. Geography is no longer what decides where you practice or with whom. The yoga world is your oyster! And that can be overwhelming. Here are the 5 questions to ask yourself when deciding on your yoga classes this fall.

84: From Interruption to Devotion

83: Now There's This

Yoga to Boost Your Immune System
Right now I am ESPECIALLY glad to have the practice of yoga in my life. There is now a large body of scientific evidence stacked in favor of yoga's claims of boosting the immune system, which is very empowering at a time like this.
In this week's podcast, I take the class through some pranayama (breath work) that is helpful in fortifying the lungs and supporting good digestion, both of which help keep us healthy and strong. You can do the practice anywhere, anytime!

They provide quarterly issue-specific toolkits that include an easy-to-use call to action guide, a booklet providing historical context, beautiful art, and Waking Giants gifts just for you.
In this episode, Sera talks about three clear paths of action off the mat that make it possible for each of us to make a difference.
1) Get clear about what matters to you. What are you for? What are the issues that matter to you and go towards that. [5:00]
2) Operate with honesty and integrity – all the time. Making sure our words and behaviors match our intentions. [10:00]
3) Live a life of connectivity. Small acts of activism for humanity that cause a ripple effect. [12:55]
If you are looking to plug in to an issue that matters to you, but aren't sure where to start, Waking Giants is for you. Check them out online at www.wakinggiants.me

80: Meditate on Detachment
I also read from The Way to Love by Anthony de Mello, where he declares that any feelings of
anxiety
fear
jealousy
anger
paranoia
boredom
and depression
all stem from an attachment. They all come from something we have convinced ourselves is true:
Without this thing, I cannot be happy.
My friends, this is not true. This is a klesha--a veil over the truth that happiness lies within.

79: Just...wait
How much do you love waiting? I don’t mean the fun, anticipatory waiting like for the start of a movie--I mean the finger-drumming, “when’s it going to be time??” waiting. I’ll admit, I’m not a fan. But I’m getting better at it.
In this week’s podcast, I tell a funny story about waiting as a fruit of maturity. I offer a releasing breath and calming mantra.
We do get better with waiting as we age, but maybe that’s just because we don’t really have to wait much--especially not these days (thank you, Amazon :). Most of us have been around long enough to know that with enough time and right effort, “good things come to those who wait.”
But how about some of that deeper stuff? How do you do with waiting for
- Your body to heal from injury, illness, or surgery?
- Anger to settle before engaging in an argument?
- Financial dips to rise back up?
- The right diagnosis?
- Clarity and wisdom in a difficult situation?
- Your estranged relationships to heal?
These are tougher. This is where we have to exercise that patience muscle.
Or do we? What if instead of requiring fierce determination and great effort, patience was easy and beautiful? What if it were there all along? What if patience were a natural outcome of your yoga practice?

78: Chaos
The practice is to maintain Yoga, or remain yoked to what is eternal, so we don’t get jerked around by the temporal chaos that life can sometimes be or feel like. The messes of life don’t go away, but they have less of an effect on us when we keep proper perspective and give the chaos a container. We keep our surroundings tidy, we keep our body toned, stretched, watered, fed, and slept. The chaos will be there, but it won’t be such a disrupting force in our day. Chaos isn't going anywhere, so we best learn how to deal with it!
In this week’s podcast, I talk about the effects of chaos and how it can be hard to focus and to be in your body. I also take you through some directed attention and breath, considering what is your current mental state. The intention is inner peace.
May you accept chaos as an underlying part of life, and always practice yoga to remain yoked to inner peace.

BONUS EPISODE: "Delight is a butterfly..."

77: Do Less
In this week's podcast episode, I talk about how LESS can be more. Less intake, less output, less effort, or less distraction might actually create space for MORE of what is life-giving and nourishing to you, body, mind, and spirit. Things like scarcity-mindset, anxiety, worry and need to control, shame, and our family of origin can fool us into thinking that all is not well, when in fact quite often it is.

Here's what Lorenna, who participated in my trial run said,
"I was surprised by the shift in energy. I felt so much more focused, and connected with the abundance in my life; more in tune with the wisdom of my body, and deeply connected to the earth."
I so wholeheartedly believe that once you experience feeling balanced in Chakra One, you will want to experience balance in the rest of your system. Therefore, I am offering all students of this Embodiment launch 10% off all future CHAKRA Savvy courses!
From Embodiment in Chakra One, to Release in Chakra Two, and Confidence in Chakra Three, all the way to Clarity and Wisdom at the top. The journey starts now! **Registration ends February 9, so I encourage you all to enroll today!

76: "Yes" is the new "No"
This episode is all about saying “YES.” “YES!” to the things you DO want, the direction you DO want to go, the people you DO want to surround yourself with. Focusing positively on the choices you do want allows a greater sense of freedom and abundance. All those “yeses” come together to pour the foundation for the life you’re building. With a structurally sound foundation, the sky is the limit!
As I talk about in this week’s podcast, and in my blog at jessgyoga.com, saying “yes” to daily yoga practice is not “no” to other things! But it’s hard to structure it into our lives, I know that for sure. That’s why I am constantly trying to come up with new ways to get you your yoga in a way that is practical, relatable, beautiful, convenient, and most of all, enjoyable.
My greatest initiative in providing this framework is available right now through February 9 when the cart closes.
Chakra Savvy: Embodiment is your opportunity for daily yoga practice that fits with your time and place. It's a deep dive into the experience of Chakra One, which is grounding, stable, self-loving, and deeply connected.
go to chakrasavvy.com and join others like you who are ready to say “yes” to the best version of their life today. “Yes” to the abundance life has to offer!
See you Friday at 7:30 am for Ready, Get Centered, Go! LIVE on Facebook!
P.S. There is ONE SPACE available in ARUBA! You can experience daily yoga in Paradise! This can be your reset button to the yoga-infused life you're craving. I'll teach you how. We can talk about it, plan, and strategize your continual yoga path for once you're back on the mainland. It's a great investment in YOUR LIFE!

75: Embodiment
For fifteen years now, once a year I teach a full week of classes on one chakra at a time. Many of you have been there for these classes, and I always hear about the fantastic transformation, understanding, and empowerment that comes from the chakra series.
In fact,
The number one question students ask me is, "When are you teaching your chakra series again?"
Well my friends, The answer is NOW, and it's even better.
I have always wanted the chance to go deeper, explain more, and give more practices that support the asana we do on our mats..
So please, allow me to introduce you to
CHAKRA Savvy, my emerging suite of online courses perfectly designed to bust through blockages get you on track for the life you know you can have. The first course, Embodiment, is a proven, mind-spirit-body system to harness the Energy of Chakra One and set a new foundation built on connection, gratitude, and trust in the world.

74: 5 Steps to "Checking In"
"Checking in" with yourself every day is a facet of self-study that is invaluable to personal growth and healthy relationships. It’s a process of tuning in to the conversation going on between your interior and exterior environments. The chakras, or the seven centers of energy that align with your spine, have valuable information to share with you about how balanced you are--you just have to learn to speak their language.
There are 5 clear steps to tuning in. The order can be changed according to experience. You can download a handy Chakra Savvy Reference PDF to have on hand as a guide to your practice.
Enjoy the journey!

73: Incarnate Energy: Tune in, Listen, Follow
“There is an Energy in the world that is life-giving and all-pervasive. This energy is within you. You ARE this energy."
Welcome to the first podcast of the new year--the new decade! This season I want to try something new--I’m going to start my podcast by talking to you directly. So now, in addition to the centering and guided breathing you usually hear, I want to give you some valuable nuggets that you might not get in just the class opening chat. I want to empower you to go deeper, ask yourself challenging questions, and open to the insights you have within you, but maybe don’t have a road-map of how to get there.
My road-map starts with INTENTION, which is my word for 2020. It is my theme for the year. I want everything I do, every relationship I maintain, and every event I create or attend to have the intention of living my life purpose, which is teaching you how to live well and in harmony with YOUR life purpose!
Here are the links to four of my INTENTIONAL events happening this month:
First, Facebook Live Friday starts this week! I’ll see you on jessgyoga facebook page at 7am every Friday for a wonderful 30 minute practice to end your week on a high note, and start your weekend calm and happy.
Second:if you’re in the Austin area this weekend, January 11, I am teaming up again with Erin Mursch of Organized for Good, and we are doing another Making Space workshop, combining yoga and the Kon Mari Method of organization to help you create a home that is grounding and supportive and a body that has space for ease and joy.
Third: On January 18, I am leading the yoga portion of a wonderful day-long retreat at John Knox Ranch, about an hour outside Austin. It’s called Time Out to Regroup with God, where you will join others in worship and learning contemplative practices that will bring you daily experiences of the holy.
And fourth: you should come with me to Aruba on February 28. I know my students have very busy lives, full of career, family, and friend obligations that can feel overwhelming at times. The BEST WAY to balance this is a vacation that has yoga, meditation, adventure, and the ocean. I personally can’t WAIT to come home from vacation feeling restored and ready to return to life, rather than feeling the need to recover. The LAST DAY to sign up is January 14, so please don’t delay!
Now join me in my class as we get centered on how to tune in, listen, and follow this beautiful incarnate energy.
**If you're curious about the chakra system and want to get started, I encourage you to go listen to my podcast episodes dedicated to each chakra. They start at episode 19, published on November 19, 2018.

72: Just This
Personally, my intention for 2020 is exactly that: Intentional. I plan to be very intentional about my time, the company I keep, the work I do, and the plans I make. I don't know exactly what this looks like yet, but the word just sticks in my mind so I'm going with it!
Thank you for being on this journey with me, and may you have a bright and happy holiday season.

71: Perfect Vision with Sat Nam
As we head into the year 2020 I want to prepare the way by identifying with what is true and clear. What helps us have perfect vision: the light that is within us. Without this light our vision is clouded by wrong identification. This means we begin to identify more with the external than the internal, more with our ego than with our spirit. We start to suffer because we attach our happiness to material things, and because we allow things that we don’t like to agitate us.
There’s a beautiful mantra that we use in yoga which is Sat Nam. Sat Nam basically means I am, or I am that. I am that which is eternal. When you use this mantra you could just say "I am" and remember who you are. Or you could say "Sat Nam," and remember that you are identifying yourself with the beauty beyond your ego.
In this week's podcast, we breathe and center on the mantra Sat Nam, and I identify four ways to remember to identify yourself with what is beautiful and eternal this holiday season.

70: Unwind
Here's a centering practice to unwind as the holidays tie you up!

The "Thank You" Breath
The "Thank You" Breath is three things for us:
- Shortcut to the present moment.
- Short circuit to negative thinking.
- Step towards faith.
Gratitude routs out anxiety that comes from thinking you have control over things you have no control over.

68: Center on Thank You
This week's podcast is seasonally appropriate, as the intention is THANK YOU. Once again, I suggest you stop to do this one. Breathe with the instructions, and get recentered as you feel gratitude fill your body. You might just avoid the "holiday gluttony-guilt-repent-detox cycle" this year.
May you take the time to stop and recenter on what's important, again and again and again.

Awaken

66. Reset button
We get to reset everywhere we want. Friendships, career paths, attitudes, wellness goals, breaking habits, testing new waters...
Now (inhale), yoga begins (exhale).
This week's podcast sets the intention of RESET on the mind and the breath. (And there's some happy baby pose thrown in, so if you can, find some floor space and join in!)
May you remember that every moment is a chance to reset, whatever it is that needs it.

65: Sticking with Uncertainty
In this episode, I read again from Pema Chodron's book, Comfortable with Uncertainty. The first line of of the fourth teaching is,
"The central question of a warrior's training is not how we avoid uncertainty and fear, but how we relate to discomfort."
Kaivalyam is a term used in the householder tradition of yoga that is defined as "freedom." This freedom comes from having space between stimulus and response. We are not chained to our reactions! Here I explore this idea and guide an intention of sticking with uncertainty.
My blog goes in another direction with an enlightening game of "horse handshake." www.jessgyoga.com/blog

64: Comfortable With Uncertainty, Part 2
This is not freedom. This is your cocoon preventing a broader, more enriching experience of the full spectrum of life. As Pema puts it, outside of our cocoon "are all the planets and all the galaxies and vast space, but we're stuck here in this cocoon."

63: Comfortable with Uncertainty, Part 1
This last year in my life has been full of uncertainty, tons of change, lots of sitting through uncomfortable waiting. I've come up against being out of control time and time again. Which is why I decided to read Pema Chodron's book, Comfortable with Uncertainty.
In it she begins to train us to be warriors--"not warriors who kill, but warriors of non-aggression who hear the cries of the world." Warriors who don't run away. Warriors who are brave enough to stay and be with what is.
This podcast episode helps us breathe into her words and life-giving advice. Read more expanded content and thoughtful guidance about the subject on my blog at www.jessgyoga.com/blog.
May you realize you are a warrior, just by showing up with your whole self.

62: Happiness Episode Two: Forget Self-Improvement
"Forget self-improvement and [bask] in what's already great about yourself." --Willibald Ruch, from TIME article "Nine Ways to Feel More Joy."

61: Happiness Episode One: Savor the Sweetness
Are some of us born with a "happiness gene?" My mom thinks so 😊👍
Whether or not we have a happiness gene, for ALL of us the practice of pausing to savor small things throughout the day has a big impact on our overall happiness.
Check out this week's podcast to hear how you can up your happiness factor in 15 second increments.

59. Brahmacharya: Balance and Boundaries
In this week's podcast I talk more about Brahmacharya in our everyday lives, and we tune in to how our energy is feeling right now and where it is felt in our bodies.
To learn more about Brahmacharya and healthy BOUNDARIES, check out my blog post:

May you always remember to be a loving gatekeeper of your precious energy.

58. Asteya: Generosity
Asteya is usually translated as non-stealing.
But I know that most of you aren't shoplifters or bank robbers, so we have to look deeper ;)
What if that book you keep on your shelf but will never read again steals the opportunity for someone else to read it? Isn't accepting accolades or credit for something you didn't do the same as stealing? When greed seeps in and makes us want more for ourselves than we need, there is poverty of spirit and stealing of resources.
The thing about going to get more than is yours, or taking someone else's, is that it prevents your true wealth from flowing into you.
In this week's podcast, learn how to breathe with a non-stealing rhythm of life, flowing from reverence, to gratitude, generosity, to patience.
Read more about applying Asteya to your life on my blog.

57. Aparigraha: Abundance
It is the clinging that shows we forgot.
As Nischala Joy Devi puts it in The Secret Power of Yoga, "Life's ebb and flow brings things into our life and then out again. Even the slightest hesitation of holding impedes the flow...If you believe that material and spiritual blessings are infinite, a cornucopia awaits you."
In this week's podcast, I talk more about Aparigraha, and we practice breathing into a sense that there is enough. We couple this with gratitude, which is the antidote to scarcity.
