ABOUT AGNES KNOWLES

I’ve probably done most of the things you expect a woman my age to have done: married and divorced; three children; variety of jobs over the years including a couple of home-based businesses and, finally, a pretty good career; gave up that career (and home and life) to move and take care of a dementing mother; adult daughter moved back home with a baby; financial struggles; sucker-punched by the post-2007 economy… waa, waa, waa – I know you probably tell a similar story (or worse).
The reason I tell you this is not for sympathy… (that gets us nowhere fast!) … but to let you know I understand this thing called ‘Retirement’ is new to us. We don’t have many real role models – our parents were probably old by this age – but we can be role models for future generations!

Trust Your Voice

Trust Your Voice

Hello and welcome to today's episode of our podcast. Today, I want to talk about a topic that is close to our hearts - trusting your own voice, especially for women.

For far too long, women have been conditioned to believe that their voices are not as important as those of men. We have been taught to second-guess ourselves, to hold back our opinions, and to doubt our abilities. But today, I want to challenge that notion and encourage you to trust your own voice.

I believe that every woman has a unique perspective, a valuable contribution to make, and a story that deserves to be heard. Whether you are a business leader, a creative artist, or a stay-at-home mom, your voice matters. And it's time to let it be heard.

So, if you have ever found yourself hesitating to speak up, questioning your own ideas, or feeling unsure about your own worth, this episode is for you. I will be sharing insights, tips, and strategies to help you build confidence, trust your own voice, and make your mark on the world.

Thank you for tuning in, and let's get started.

Do You Speak Male?

Do You Speak Male?

It is true that men and women can have different communication styles, problem-solving approaches, and perspectives which can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. However, these differences can also be complementary and both men and women can learn from each other and fill gaps in each other's lives. By understanding and appreciating each other's differences, they can work together more effectively and achieve more than they would individually. In a professional setting, men and women can bring different skills and perspectives to the table, creating a well-rounded team that can achieve more than they would individually. In a familial setting, men and women can provide different forms of care and support for each other and their children, creating a well-rounded environment for children to grow and develop. In a friendship, men and women can offer different forms of support, creating a balanced and healthy relationship. It's important to remember that these examples are not exhaustive, and men and women can complement each other in many other ways. Each person is unique and not all men or women will fit into these stereotypes. The most important thing is for individuals to communicate, understand, and appreciate each other's differences, and to work together in a harmonious way. A Tribute to a Mentor

A Tribute to a Mentor

Today, I will be sharing my story as a tribute to Ms. Marion Higman Furletti , she was my fourth-grade teacher and she was one of the most influential people in my life. I still carry the lessons and some practices she taught me to this day. Ms. Higman’s impact on my life will never be forgotten. She was more than just a teacher, she was a friend that saw me, a mentor, and a role model. I will always be grateful for the time I spent in her classroom and for the lessons she taught me. Unfortunately, she passed away but she will always be in my heart.

Taking our loved ones for granted is simple. We're too busy to appreciate our time with loved ones. After their death, we learn how much they meant to us, which may be costly. We should pause to appreciate our loved ones while they're still here. Time for loved ones is crucial. Work, school, and other commitments may easily devour our time in a busy life. However, we must make time for our loved ones, whether that means making frequent phone conversations or visits or simply taking a few minutes each day to catch up. Showing care is another way to cherish our loved ones. Sending a kind text, letter, or just listening may do this. Showing others, we care helps them feel appreciated and strengthens your relationship with them. Our words have more power than we think. It's crucial to consider the influence of our words, whether in person or online. We may foster optimism and love by being attentive to how we communicate with others. Treasure every minute with loved ones. Life is delicate, and we never know when we'll have to say goodbye to loved ones. That's why we must treasure every time with loved ones, whether it's a great celebration or a quiet moment. Finally, we must value our loved ones while they are alive. We should spend time with them, show them we care, watch our language, and appreciate every minute. Never take people for granted—life is too short. We never know how much time we have, so let's cherish those around us.

The Geeky Grandma Meets Not Your Average Grandma

The Geeky Grandma Meets Not Your Average Grandma

Laurie Wright, also known as Not Your Average Grandma, is a certified Master NeuroCoach whose mission is to help passionless empty nesters, who wake up most days feeling unmotivated and frustrated about their less-than-fulfilling lives, get clear on who they really are and what they truly desire so that they feel energized and excited about their next chapter, in a way they may have never experienced before.

Laurie has a corporate background in the software tech industry, with her longest stint at AOL where she spent 13 years climbing the corporate ladder. Although most would consider her rise from technical writer to Vice President in just 7 years to be the pinnacle of success, it left her empty and unfulfilled. After experiencing a couple of on-the-job panic attacks, she knew something was wrong and that she needed to change her life.

Now, after lots of research and training on this topic, she understands that her rise to the top took her further away from her soul’s purpose - the work that lights her up, brings her great joy, and that she now believes she was sent here to do. And because she believes everyone deserves to live from this lit up place, she’s dedicated her life to teaching people how to find that spark.

With her signature program, The Second Half S.P.A.R.K. School™, Laurie teaches women how to find their late-in-life spark by connecting with their authentic self and uncovering what they truly want out of life so that they won’t ever find themselves asking “What if?” She also has a podcast called “Not Your Average Lives” where she highlights inspirational stories of midlife transformation.

"I'm 65 and I did it...what is your excuse?"

"I'm 65 and I did it...what is your excuse?"

Inger Nordin is from Sweden and she has 35 years of experience in corporate. She retired at age 65, but soon found out that she was bored with life. Her slogan is "It’s never too late to start over - I did it when I was 65 - what’s your excuse?," as noted in the title. She knew that she had more in her to give.  She is a life-long learner, and she started taking various courses after she retired. Among the areas she studied was the teachings of Advanced Coaching & Leadership Center, ACLC, in USA (originated from Alan C. Walter’s teachings) She bases her services on that training.  Inger found the pandemic as a good time to learn how to interact with others via the internet. The Facebook tribe "Your Power - You Matter“ was started by Inger in July 2020.  She’s just starting a book study of “The Science of Getting Rich”, by Wallace D. Wattles, together with a friend running another tribe. She is very savvy about keeping her financial records.  She believes too many women have skated by not really understanding their financial situation. She will email you a template that she uses to keep track of her finances if you contact her at inger@lifeamplification.com. Inger’s book “The Power of You2 - Create a Power Patch of Success (Personally & Professionally) is based on her life experience. Inger has written chapters in two other conglomerate books.  Inger is moreover featured in Global Woman Magazine  https://globalwomanmagazine.com/inger-nordin-starting.../  This is Inger's mission statement for IN Life Amplification program: I help women step into the spotlight so they can maximize success success in business and life without feeling stuck and compromising their femininity.

Sarah Olivia's Memory Quilt

Sarah Olivia's Memory Quilt

Missy Quinley Bauder, Author. Misty Bauder found her retirement path by doing the things she loves to do and by paying attention to the things she values most. Here is her biography: I worked for 33 years in the VA Public School system in 5 different localities across the state. I began my career as a teacher working with students with special needs at the middle school and high school levels then transitioned into administration.  I retired as a middle school administrator in 2012. After I retired, I went back to work part time for another year or so working at the local administrative building, but after that time, I decided to retire full time and explore other areas of interest. I always loved to sew and began sewing toys and doll clothes for the grandchildren which eventually led to a small scale crafting business. I’ve always loved writing and growing up, my English classes were always my favorite.  During my time as a teacher, I took a writing class for educators. I had developed a unit in my middle school sixth grade class for teaching students to write by using a Me Book format and I wrote a paper on this for the class I was taking. My paper was later published by a state university in their English Bulletin. This love for reading and writing eventually led me to write a couple of children’s stories including Sarah Olivia’s Memory Quilt. I believe you will enjoy the genuine love and charm in MIssy's voice as she shares stories based on family and faith. Listen to this podcast as MIssy reveals her heart's desire which later becomes a reality after the recording of this episode. Your Creative Memorial Planning & Legacies

Your Creative Memorial Planning & Legacies

EPISODE 004 -Jenny Leigh Hodgins - Author/Composer/Creativepreneur

GRIEF WARNING

It has been a long time since I last posted an episode.  My mom passed away on Oct. 23rd, 2020. The very grief explains why it was so difficult for me to get through the editing of this episode. During this season of grief, I  taught a class called "NO REGRETS" in which the participants had to create a legacy project. The word "legacy" actually drew me to today's guest, Jenny Leigh Hodgins is our guest today whose Facebook group is called "Your Creative Memorial Planning."  Jenny had been put in the position of 3 times of suddenly loosing a close family member and/or friend. These people that passed had not made any end of life arrangements. Jenny was the one who put her own feelings on hold while she stepped up to the plate and took care of those difficult tasks at hand.  Jenny and a friend of hers ended up doing taking on this responsibility 9 different times.  And later Jenny actually had to plan that person's service as well. That is when Jenny realized that she had accrued a much needed talent. Her creative talents fit in by helping people design non-traditional services that are unique to the lives they are celebrating and often making it more meaningful and less costly. She now offers a mentoring service to people who would like assistance through the pre-planning process.

Jenny's music and piano teaching background easily fits in with memorial services.   She teaches adults how to play the piano and she has created her own piano book. She is a blogger and a podcaster. Jenny loves nature and often works nature into whatever she is doing. She uses her pictures of nature to create calendars and other products. Below are links to Jenny's multi-faceted career.

Growing with Mentors

Growing with Mentors

We all start somewhere.  I started quiet, shy, and very insecure. I've been blessed with many mentors along the way.  They have helped and encouraged me in many ways, but ultimately what was always deep inside of me begins to blossoms, and I'm on my way.

I am sharing today's episode of talking with an old college friend as a demonstration that transformation is a process.  Some of us stay in the cocoon longer than others, and yet...eventually we do find our wings. My guest is a retired elementary teacher and college friend named Cheryl currently living in Zion, Illinois.

My journey has included a lot of mentors, therapists, pastors, tons of radio shows, books, podcasts, webinars, and coaches...but growth does happen.  I share my example to give you hope.  Wherever you are starting out is just fine.  No matter what you have been through...it all works together to develop you into a women who can reach her goals and help other women find theirs as well.

Enjoy this episode, and leave comment below.

Women's Groups is the Place for Me

Women's Groups is the Place for Me

Welcome new listeners.  Do you need encouragement?  Have you spent your entire life and career meeting everyone else's needs?  The kids are flying the coop, and retirement is right around the corner.  How about your dreams? Do you remember them? Would you like to find them once again?  Do you need a group of sisters or like minded women to belong to?  Are you a bit on the quiet side?  Maybe you are an HSP, an Empath, or an Introvert. Well, this is a great place for you.  I love to encourage, inspire, and empower you.  While the message is powerful...the demeanor is gentle.  Just a perfect match for you.

You might ask why do women's groups tug on my heart? The seed to find female companionship started early in my life.  It took many years to blossom. This episode is a behind the curtain glimpse of just how that heart's desire of mine got started.  I wanted to share my journey like a guide leading the way through the jungle wheedling a machete in my hands...clearing the pathway for you.  I want you to know that you too can move forward towards YOUR heart's desire.  Follow along on this journey.  I can't wait to hear about your voyages as well.
