In the past few years, we have had a lot of organizations on the Plateau who organize events for the awareness, of drug abuse, and what makes this one different is because Aibeth Centre is infusing, birdwatching, hiking, and Community Cleaning, and selected participants will be given Economic trees.

In this episode, I met Abel Gimbal, Co-founder & President of Aibeth Centre, to talk about plans to make this event Frequent.

The city of Jos, especially the Facebook community have been heated in the last days following the controversies around the bragging rights to who owns the rights to the tagline, “Made in Jos”. 

Multiple factions have popped up, taking sides with either social media personality, Jerry Doubles, Fashionprenuer Yaargata Dach or hold unto neutralilty of things, watching to see how the next couple of days would unfold. 

I had a chat with Yaargata Dach, a Fashionprenuer and convener to the Made in Jos for Just Fashion Show and also, Amama Benn Benedict, a mediaprenuer on my podcast. 

Both had a lot to say, clearing the air to certain unchecked boxes and question marks hovering in the past days in regards to the bragging rights of who really owns the tagline to “Made in Jos”.

In this episode, I sat with Dr. Elvis to talk the future of Food tourism and how it can attract and exchange cultures from diverse ethnicity in form of food.

Alot of people most have read or heard about student support groups in Universities and this is not an exception. Onuh returns with China to help his people fight against the covid19 virus. A stranger is already present in the community, brainwashing and selling fake nose masks and other things to the people, Onuh must find a way to fight this man and stereotype to win the trust of his people.

Honorable Jude and his cohort will not let the people of kugiya community have access to all the covid-19 materials freely given by the government. He sees his action as a way of punishing them for not voting.

Mr. Ola’s daughter’s wedding is just by the corner, he wants an elaborate wedding. All efforts by Emeka to make his father-in-law see reason as to why the elaborate wedding won’t work is futile. The government has warned against all social gatherings of more than fifty persons in attendance. For Mr. Ola, it’s a ploy Emeka to carry his daughter away cheaply.

Honorable Ademu has vowed to destroy the peace and unity in Kugiya community. The community takes his word for it. Today has the pandemic crawls across countries, Ademu rushes to his community to warn them of the danger coming. Will his people take any word coming from him to be true, will the virus consume them? Sule is adamant, his wife and daughter try telling him to be more careful, seeing that is a man of the public but Sule is convince that covid-19 is out for the old and not the young. He's asked by the village head to represent him in a market meeting, what happens after gaps the mouth of the people in the market.

A student pastor will not allow his fellow students to believe in the existence of covid-19, he believes in the power of faith to fight every form of sickness, is he right? This episode says it all.

Malam Younisa does not believe that coronavirus can penetrate the African gene. Every effort by his friend, Matazo to help him act with reason proved abortive.

Chenedu’s bar business experience a massive profit as many believe in the power of Alcohol to prevent the corona virus. Akolo, his friend must consider going into the same business but there’s a problem to the future of the business; the community head must be stopped from telling the people the truth about the Alcohol and the corona virus.

Oga Jude is well known in kugiya community to be the bringer of information, he goes to the city often, so whatever he says is welcomed by the community. Are the community right to trust his information, Is the information accurate? This episode says it all.

Amos, a tough-headed man of Kugiya community, believes in the use of traditional medicine in killing the covid-19 virus. He says there’s no ailment however dangerous that cannot be cured by baba Okiku, soon his only son starts showing off some of the symptoms of the corona virus, he rushes him to baba Okiku and there he meets his greatest surprise.

Mummy Chikwado’s husband has been rushed to the hospital. Due to the poor health facility in the hospital, they suspect that he’s been infected with coronavirus, a situation that leaves her downcasted, until the great news.

Amos returns from the quarantine center and meets a different situation in Kugiya, he whom the community laugh at his joke is now avoided by people, including his wife as they are not convinced that he is free of the virus.

Mama Aboy will not observe any of the Covid-19 precautions, a decision which has become her huge challenge, friends withdraw from her, and Alhaji Yunisa will not help her now that she’s in dare need until she meets all his conditions.

Laitu and Mummy Chikwado report a businesswoman, Madam JUJU as called by the duo to Ngo Kaneng. According to them, madam juju uses diabolical powers to pull their customers to her; little do they know that the innocent woman discovers a natural means of attracting customers in the covid-19 pandemic era.

Upon the declaration of lockdown by the community head, the entire kugiya community is thrown into a state of pandemonium, youths take to the street in protest, according to the; the lockdown is a ploy by the village head and a Chinese company to install a 5G network in the community, which they believe is the cause of the novel coronavirus.

The only Language a government such as Nigeria understands is protests, and every legitimate Nigerian has the civil rights of expression and the right to protest.

That's why I'm this episode, I sat with Kendrick Gozie Ekwuzor on the plans to ask our government how accountable they're on the 12th of August 2021 which happens to be the International Day of Youths. This protest indeed has attracted alot of media agencies to talk about the 7 points agenda demanded by these Nigerian Youths.

Every 12th of August,  youths are celebrated globally. Initiated by LEAP Africa, Youth Day of Service (YDoS) is an annual week-long, pan-African youth-led social impact campaign that begins on August 12 every year which is also ‘International Youth Day. YDoS is designed to ignite the agency and creativity of young people across Africa towards sustainable development and promote a culture of communal support and community development. The week-long campaign fosters the spirit of volunteerism within the youth population and inspires them to be active change agents in their communities continuously. The campaign theme for this year is ‘Youthful and Useful.’

In accordance with the provisions of section 4 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act 2003 (https://nlipw.com/university-jos-act/), the Governing Council of the University of Jos shortlisted eighteen professors who applied for the position.

Unfortunately, the Pro-Chancellor, Prince Tony Momoh died before the process could end. Following the alleged opposition by some members of the governing council as to the election process, the National Universities Commission (NUC) halted the process.

The NUC's decision (https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/north-central/456417-unijos-students-staff-protest-nuc-interference-in-vc-selection-process.html) was followed by protests by staff and students on the University's campus. The NUC interference paved way for numerous conspiracy theories.

In this episode, we continued the conversation on the Post-Professor Maimako's administration with a look at these conspiracy theories, the narratives that followed the protest amongst others.

Some refer to him as the "Architect of Modern UniJos", every Jossite and a member or friend of the University will definitely have amazing stories to tell about the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Sebastian Maimako.

The Professor of accounting and finance is the 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University has contributed immensely to the infrastructural growth on the campuses of the University.

During his tenure, the University administrative building officially moved to the Permanent Site, faculties like Management Science, Natural Science, Social Sciences now have a befitting structure to house their faculty, laboratories, and lecture rooms amongst others.

The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has directly affected the security and the economy of Nigeria in a dramatic way. Unemployment has been on the increase, this is a reflection of the fragility of the national infrastructure.

In this episode, Prince Charles Dickson, Ph.D. of Tattaunawa Roundtable Initiative explored what should be the common ground of the fragile communities.

Despite a recession from 2014 to 2016, The World Bank asserts that Nigeria’s economy may be headed toward the worst financial state the country has seen in four decades. Nigeria is extremely dependent on oil, which represents more than 80% of the country’s exports. With international travel halted due to COVID-19, the country has recorded an 18-year low on fuel prices, at $22 per barrel. 

The National Bureau of Statistics states that 42% of almost 2,000 citizens interviewed were out of work as a result of the pandemic

With the existing ethnoreligious conflicts in the country, this conversation focuses on how polarized communities can embrace dialogue to ensure effective management of the health, security, and economic crises across the country.

The pandemic worsens the global economy, especially with the lockdown, even though some entrepreneurs used digital marketing to scale, most of them were unable due to the structure of their business.

This affected food security and the rate of hunger increased. The World Bank projected that five million Nigerians would be pushed into poverty due to COVID 19.

Amidst many challenges the came with the COVID-19 pandemic, this episode will spotlight the impact on national security and the economy.

Masks are a key measure to suppress transmission and save lives. Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive ‘Do it all!’ approach including physical distancing, avoiding crowded, closed, and close-contact settings, good ventilation, cleaning hands, covering sneezes and coughs, and more.

Depending on the type, masks can be used for either protection of healthy persons or to prevent onward transmission.

In this episode, I sat with Dr. Chollom Solomon, A medical Virologist and he pointed out three reasons you need to wear a mask after taking covid-19 Jab.

1. To shield you against other respiratory diseases

2. To protect us from any mutants of the virus

On the 22nd of May 2021, Comfort Benjamin went missing in Jos North, Plateau state. The Police were involved in the case and the family members and friends took to social media to call for help in finding her since it was on her birthday and she was not back.

Later on the evening of 23rd May 2021, the corpse of the 16 years old was found at Nasarawa Gwong in Jos North. According to the Police, she was raped and murdered.

In late 2019, the Coronavirus was isolated. According to Wikipedia, its genetic sequence was published on 11 January 2020, triggering an urgent international response to prepare for an outbreak and hasten the development of a preventive COVID-19 vaccine.

Creating a vaccine in under 1 year is no small feat. While the coronavirus pandemic made a new normal of mask-wearing and physical distancing, it also spurred global cooperation for vaccine research and distribution.

However, a vaccine is only effective if people are willing to receive it. With rapid research development, some may be concerned that the vaccine was rushed, and with these concerns comes vaccine hesitancy.

In this episode, I sat down with Dr Solomon Cholom, a Medical Laboratory Scientist to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine development - how vaccines were rapidly made without compromising safety.

Coronavirus happens to be the first pandemic in the digital media era. Digital media has enabled us to easily share and access information about COVID-19.

The danger of this efficiency is that digital media provides an opportunity for anybody to become a publisher, in this case, even those with inaccurate information have a platform to share their perspectives.

The Pandemic has been worsened by the Infodemic, the information we receive influences us in no small way. How can you use digital media safely?

Oluwatosin provided insights into this subject.

No doubt that information (authentic or fake) shapes perception. Since the world experienced the first pandemic in the social media era, different kinds of information have been flooding the internet space, just like this podcast; some are accurate others are not. 

Misinformation is as dangerous as the pandemic, in this episode, Dr Meshak explored the relationship between media consumption, misinformation, and behavioural patterns during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Nigerian officials say the country is ready to receive its first COVID-19 vaccine doses by the end of January. The government wants to vaccinate 40% of the country's population by the end of this year. But experts say the cost and storage of the vaccine poses a challenge.

Even though reports have stated that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would be the first recipients of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine - the first 100,000 doses of which are expected to be available this month, most Nigerians are still yet to accept the authenticity of the vaccine.

To mitigate some of this misinformation, a Medical Laboratory Scientist who is also a Medical Journalist, Odinaka Kingsley Obata shared some of the reasons behind the myths as well as accurate information as regards the vaccine with me in this episode of the #COVIDCast.

People who have been infected with Covid-19 have an 83% less chance of being infected again, according to a study of health care workers in the United Kingdom.

Prior to when I tested positive for COVID-19, I was always careful with ensuring I adhere to all guidelines, all of a sudden I lost my sense of taste and smell.

In this radio interview at the #OfficeOfTheCitizen, I shared my survivor story. Testing positive to COVID-19 has taught me to be much more careful in observing all precautions, such as handwashing, wearing a facemask, and keeping physical distance.

COVID-19 is not a hoax.

Misinformation is false or inaccurate information that is communicated regardless of an intention to deceive. Examples of misinformation are false rumors, insults, and pranks.

Stigmatization is when someone views you in a negative way because you have a distinguishing characteristic or personal trait that's thought to be, or actually is, a disadvantage (a negative stereotype). 

Discrimination is not justified and has negative consequences for stigmatized people. We cannot allow COVID-19 to serve as a vehicle for racism. Instead, we can focus our energy on solutions and positive thoughts to combat infection and disinformation. Let's practice collective solidarity to support people affected by the virus.

On this episode, I was joined by Chinwe Blessing, MSA, and Awom Keneth who are  creatives on the Plateau to discuss the new mode transportation in Jos( Bolt, Air Max) and this had heated arguments about who and how these means of transportation is can be leveraged for safer travels and convenience.

Mr. Theodore Longji is our guest on this week’s podcast. Theodore Longji grew from being a computer scientist into an entrepreneur which guided him to becoming the CEO Nhub, a technology innovation hub to push for the creation of an innovation technology entrepreneurship ecosystem in the north. 

Mr. Longji said that the Tech ecosystem on the plateau has really improved and he is proud that parents are now letting their children embrace their dreams. He believes that the government of the day and hubs in Plateau state have in a large way fostered and promoted culture and the building of a support system to enable entrepreneurs and tech enthusiast. 

Nhub according to him collaborate with hubs and various relevant individuals to expand and achieve a vibrant technical system as well as invite investors on the plateau from different parts of the world because the state is ready for investors.

He explained that the reason why people believe going out to Lagos is the best is because Lagos is where the market is. However he says Jos is a springboard where you get to build and cook yourself to be a better person and that entrepreneurs do not have to leave to mega cities.

There would be an event organized by his hub on Saturday 21st February 2020 to meet up and talk to entrepreneurs  about realizing and seizing opportunities, how to start up and so on. Various professionals will be brought in.

In his advice to entrepreneurs, he said it’s never too late to start something so reach out, learn something and dream big.

In this Episode, I had Mrs. Toyin Phyllis Wiggins and Retnan Daser, whoa re major key players in the entertaiment industry and (Coaching, Mentoring).

They spoke immensely about how the industry is striving regardless of the happenings in the City of Jos.
