Deconstructing Aesop’s Fables with Jon Wilkins

There is so much to say about liberty, especially days before a monumental election. There is a wolf and there is a dog each with conflicting ideals.  Nobody gets hurt in this one but there sure is some shaming. here are a lot of versions of this fable. The one that the library of Congress chose to share makes you think. Well, it made me think, and then I made it this week's fable.

Before we go any further, do you know what a Falconer is? You will soon and there are 300 of them around somewhere. That is a very small percentage of people. This episode is full of suspense. 

This one is a thinker for the election season. Everyone counts but not treated equally. Is it ok for a leader and/or lion to determine that you aren't good enough to listen to when complaining? Aesop taught a lot of lessons and this one seems to teach intolerance of those you find lesser than yourself. 

Aesop leads one to believe that if you fight an impossible fight together you are better than a person looking to survive. This lesson would be better taught if someone actually got hurt.  

Are you familiar with the Satyr? This fable matches a man up with a goat/horse hybrid creature. After a few days, it is clear to the Satyr why the can’t live together. Find Aesop's Fables before they are deconstructed on Facebook. 

This one dives into a completely different rabbit hole so to speak. The lesson Aesop is presenting is for the Wolf but the Wolf has more problems than just being a murderer. The Monkey and the Camel is a story about a camel that gets treated terribly for not knowing when to dance.  

The good news and the bad new. Good news is that there is not any murder in this fable. The bad news is a that all of the animals are idiots. I find that Aesop often get the message across to a specific audience and I am not sure to whom this lesson is to be taught.

Another fable that ends in murder and mayhem after a small interaction that could have ended in a mature walk away. The Dog the Cock and the Fox is basically the story of confusion and unjust revenge revenge.  

The Farmer and the Cranes is an ambiguous lesson with two morals. Are two morals better tan on?

The Fisherman and the Little Fish is the story of a man that fishes and catches a small fish. The story seems simple but once deconstructed there is a lot more to ask. "Live Long and Prosper," says Spock. Do you think Spock and Aesop share the same philosophy? 

Welcome to another episode of Deconstructing Aesop's Fables where so far the theme has included murder. In this episode, a frog kills a mouse who is eaten to death by a Hawk. Episode 2 takes a look at The Owl and the Grasshopper. In this story, the Owl gets revenge on a grasshopper that is happily singing outside in the forest during the day. Call me crazy but I am confused as to who is learning the lesson.
