When you are in your thirties and don’t know your purpose

17. This One Tip Will Help You Advance Your Career
Today, I will be discussing informational interviews.
Informational interviews are essential to helping you find out more about the type of industry, company, or role you’re interested in,” says Dorie Clark, author of Stand Out Networking.
“You may think you already know all about a certain position, but speaking to someone directly allows you to test your assumptions.” John Lees, a UK-based career strategist and author of The Success Code, agrees.
Informational interviews “give you exposure — a way to get yourself known in the hidden job market,” he says. “The visibility may put you straight onto a shortlist, even if a job isn’t advertised.”
https://hbr.org/2016/02/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-an-informational-interview
An informational interview can help you build relationships with individuals in your field of interest.
During the interview make sure, your interviewee does most of the talking.
The interview is an opportunity for you to test your hypothesis about your dream career.
Questions to ask:
How do you get into this line of work?
What do you enjoy about it?
What’s not so great about it?
What’s changing in the sector?
What kinds of people do well in this industry?
Don’t make PERMANENT decisions based on your conversation with one person. Try your best to interview at least three individuals.
E-mail template to request an informational interview
Hello, Mr./Ms./Dr.
My name is Malik Taylor, and I'm a junior majoring in Media Studies at UC Berkeley. Is this a good time for you to talk briefly? I heard you speak at an event sponsored by the Undergraduate Marketing Association last semester. Although I am not currently looking for a job, I have become very interested in public relations and would like to learn more about the field. Would it be possible to schedule 20 to 30 minutes with you at your convenience to ask a few questions and get your advice on how best to prepare to enter the field?"

16. How to Discover Your Dream career?
Do you think it is possible to have a dream career?
A dream career doesn’t mean the journey will be easy. It means you will have a career that matches your skills, interests, and potential. It will also provide you a financial reward that matches your expertise.
Questions to ask yourself to help identify your dream career
Who are you?
Knowing who you are is essential to identify your strengths.Your race, background, environment, language, and culture can help you identify your dream career.
Take a listen to the podcast- it will help you understand what I mean.
Life career themes
“... life career themes are ideas, beliefs, attitudes, and values that people hold about themselves, others, and the world at large. These “I am,” “Others are,” and “Life is” statements have a lot to do with people’s behavior. By looking at behavior—both words and actions—you can infer or directly observe life career themes. Excerpt From: Gysbers, Norman C., Heppner, Mary J., Johnston, Joseph A. “Career Counseling.”What are you good at? What do you like about your previous work experiences?
What subjects or courses did you like when you were in high school and college?
If there were headlines about your life? What would it say?
Do you prefer working with data, ideas, things, and people? Or a combination of these things?

9. Updates and Dealing with Discouragement
First, I want to apologize for my lack of consistency with my podcast. I truly believe that being a podcaster is part of my purpose. I owe it to you and myself to be consistent with this journey.
The past few weeks have been discouraging. From buying a highly recommended microphone that I can't figure out how to get it to work with my computer. I am a technology person, but this one is throwing me for a loop. Also, I discuss dealing with discouragement by the low downloads. I am almost at 300 downloads, so I am not complaining. But, that with other issues have added to my discouragement.
Additionally, navigating the editing. I am a techie person, but this has been discouraging as well.
I plan to be more consistent and I have 6 already pre-recorded purpose stories coming to you starting next week. I am excited to share this journey with you all!

2. Is Character More Important Than Purpose?
In this episode, I will be sharing a story of a man who had a bright future, but his life took a different turn.
So, “Is Character more important than purpose?” This is a question you will have to answer for yourself. What are your weaknesses? What character flaws do you need to work on now so that it won’t become your “frailties” in the future.
I share John Edwards’s story not to mock him, but for us to learn a lesson from a portion of his life story. He has shared on other platforms how politics exposed his “frailties.”
If you already know his story, please still listen with an open mind because there are lessons I will point out from his story that might be new to you.
Your purpose can also expose your frailties if you don’t put it in the hands of God and work on it. I am not preaching about perfection. I am speaking about choosing to focus on your character as well as your purpose!
