Episode 37 - ORTHOREXIA

Episode 37 - ORTHOREXIA

- Orthorexia is an unhealthy obsession with “clean” eating, not a true commitment to health

- Often stems from good intentions but becomes an anxiety-ridden rigid set of food rules

- Causes social isolation, physical issues, mental distress

- Key signs: inflexibility, distress when “rules” broken, avoidance of social situations involving food

- Recovery is challenging but possible with self-compassion, professional support, addressing root issues

- Distinguish by assessing impact on quality of life — does it enhance or diminish?

- We must push back on unrealistic standards rather than internalize them

- Food and exercise are meant to nourish, not punish

Focus on balance, moderation and self-care rather than seeking an impossible perfection. Be patient and celebrate small victories. Prioritise self-acceptance.

Episode 36 - Katherine Cimorelli shares her ED story (without Song)

Episode 36 - Katherine Cimorelli shares her ED story (without Song)

Katherine Cimorelli, singer from the popular band Cimorelli, opens up about her powerful journey recovering from an eating disorder. Though she grew up with a healthy relationship with food, things took a turn when she entered the music industry in Los Angeles at 18.

The immense pressure to look thin coupled with the prevalent “clean eating” culture led Katherine down a decade-long struggle with orthorexia and disordered eating. It wasn’t until 2020, after getting very sick with mono, that she finally had a breakthrough.

Stumbling upon the concept of intuitive eating while bedridden sparked a revelation in Katherine - she realised the mental anguish she had been putting herself through for years due to extreme dietary restriction. Her new approach to food gave her a liberation she hadn't felt in a long time.

However, when bodily changes from pregnancy later triggered her, Katherine found she needed help. A diagnosis from a dietitian led her to understand she had an eating disorder all along.

Now, Katherine focuses her recovery on mental wellness practices like prayer, connections with loved ones, and variety in eating/movement. She hopes that by bravely sharing her story, her music and words can encourage anyone still trapped in disordered eating to seek the help and freedom they deserve. There is life waiting beyond the confines of diet culture.

Episode 19: Finding my new identity- with Karla and Victoria

Victoria and Karla join me for this episode, where we discuss the fears we had of losing the eating disorder identities and how to discover who we were without the ED.

Many of you know already that my podcasts are pretty unedited and this episode has guest appearances from my 2 dogs!

Victoria Kleinsman is a Food Freedom & Body Love Coach who has beaten anorexia - bulimia - binge eating disorder and abuse. Using her unique gift of activating people to remember how powerful and self-loving they naturally are, Victoria helps people from all around the world to make peace with food, become besties with their bodies & come back home to self-love & intuition eating.

Website: https://www.victoriakleinsman.com/

Karla is a proud Mexican, mom of 3 beautiful kids, spouse and daughter. She used to be a rebellious girl, with a little tint of loneliness and sadness deep in her soul. She never felt totally part of anything or that she belonged, until her body could give her a place in the world.

At the age of 15, after a surgery, her anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, OCD or ED was triggered. It has been part of her life for the last 25 years. Like many, she has tried different treatments and had very few results. Until she found coaching and our now mutual friend, Victoria.

Karla is now an eating disorder recovery coach helping other women who are in the grasps of an eating disorder.
