Review: "On" Running Shoes
In 2010 two Swiss entrepreneurs Caspar Coppetti and David Allemann collaborated with retired athlete Olivier Bernhard to create On Running Shoes. What started as shoe experimentation using garden hoses for the outer sole quickly grew into an international company, receiving the prestigious ISPO Brandnew award in March 2010. As On Running Shoes have had a meteoric rise in the sports and running community fueled by a loyal fanbase it’s important to closely examine the effects these shoes have on the musculoskeletal system of the runners wearing them. Here’s the On Running Shoes review. Justin is an outpatient PT who started his own running gait analysis clinic. 3 Reasons To Not Perform An Observational Gait Analysis
Many gait experts have seen some very motivated patients in their clinical experience. In most cases those patients will do almost anything to return to walking or running. But as gait experts it’s important for us to recognize when a gait analysis is not warranted and potentially detrimental to the patient's health. Here are 3 reasons to not perform an observational gait analysis. Justin is an outpatient PT who started his own running gait analysis clinic. Are Insoles Bad For Runners?
When I was out for a trail run recently I started to talk with a fellow runner and we inevitably started discussing running shoes and insoles. Her question was whether she should be using insoles in addition to the support provided from her running shoes. As PTs and healthcare practitioners we get many questions exactly like this from our running patients. Some insoles ARE bad for runners, others ARE good, here’s what you need to know about running insoles. Justin is an outpatient PT who started his own running gait analysis clinic. He has faculty appointments at University of the Pacific and frequently teaches at UC San Francisco's PT school. 3 Ways To Change Running Gait (That Actually Work!)
There are so many ways to change running form but some are better than others. Recommendations can be as informal as a running partner suggesting that you “land on your toes while you run” to a running specialist performing a running gait analysis and providing evidence based techniques to change your running form. As PTs it is essential for our advice to be formed with objective findings, evidence and research. The problem is it’s hard to wade through the research articles and latest techniques on how to change runners’ form. Therefore, we unfortunately see many practitioners utilizing outdated or incorrect gait retraining techniques. To help streamline the information, here’s three evidence based techniques that can change runners’ gait. Justin is an outpatient PT who started his own running gait analysis clinic. He has faculty appointments at University of the Pacific and frequently teaches at UC San Francisco's PT school.
