Mike Rother's Keynote from KataCon5
Hi, this is Mark Graban. In this episode of the Kata Cast, I’m sharing audio that Mike Rother asked me to post here. It’s the audio of his opening keynote from the recent KataCon5 event.
Thanks to my friends at Gemba Academy, sponsors of KataCon5, for recording and releasing a new video series from the KataCon. Please listen and share with your team as a lead-up to KataCon6, February 20-21, 2020 in Austin, TX. You won't want to miss what is shaping up to be a great gathering of learning and networking around the subject of scientific thinking. Go to www.katasummit.com to learn more. Rother: Starter Kata in 4 Minutes
Starter Kata are basic practice routines you begin with, to get skill fundamentals. The goal is to internalize each Starter Kata's pattern, so you can then build on and adapt that pattern under a variety of circumstances with little thought or hesitation.
The Toyota Kata Starter Kata help anyone develop greater powers of scientific thinking, which equips you to meet all sorts of challenging goals.
More information is in the 'Toyota Kata Practice Guide' at: tinyurl.com/TK-Practice
Interestingly, the goal of the Dutch Reach is not 'to open the door with the right hand,' but rather for drivers to look back before opening the door. To build new skills and mindset it's helpful to have a little starter routine to practice, than to only hear, "Please look back before you open the door."
