24. How to Share The Mental Workload with Ellen Hooper

24. How to Share The Mental Workload with Ellen Hooper

Often, it’s not the to-do lists that I create that create the overwhelm and stress. It is the non stop mental workload that is constantly running in the background. It is the thoughts that keep me awake, the micro-managing of the to-do list, and endless storage of facts and details that I need to know in order to keep the home and my work life flowing.

And at times it is just too damn much!

Today, Ellen Hooper is going to guide us on how we can start taking steps to share and off-load the mental workload. As you will learn in this episode, it is a bit of trusting that failure is ok (I know…for most of us women we may be clenching our jaws at the thought). Ellen is brilliant at showing us that when we allow others to fail we create room for growth, compassion, and freedom for ourselves.

In this episode, we will explore:

  • Parental burnout & trusting our partner’s

  • Being the next generation of Role Model’s for community and our children

  • The universal experience that women face that “no one takes care of me like I take care of everyone else”

  • Allowing our partners to experiential learn through allowing them to fail

Ellen Hooper is a people and culture expert. She's a certified coach with the International Coaching Federation, an accredited mediator, a passionate speaker and loves to help individuals and groups to grow and develop. Her clients call her a coaching magician and a total legend who helps them get unstuck. She has been described by the Australian of the Year as her 'secret weapon'. And she is here to share all her secrets with us today.

23. The Importance of Putting Your Desires First with Jessica Oyanagi

23. The Importance of Putting Your Desires First with Jessica Oyanagi

Does the idea of putting yourself first feel impossible? You are not alone. I think most women fall in the pattern of care giving and nurturer that we automatically put ourselves last in our careers, in our homes and in our relationships.

Today on the podcast, Jessica Oyanagi, joins us to chat about Tapping into your feminine nature to design a life you truly desire! And guess what? Putting yourself first is her core teaching.

Jessica Oyanagi is passionate about leading a conscious, desire driven life and teaching women how to live fully too! It is her belief that for too long women have been taught that their desires come last, and she is on a mission to change this narrative! Bloom, her women’s empowerment community, is a nurturing space where women can devote themselves to exploring their personal expansion. Jessica wants women to have continuous access to the education, community support, and tools they need to become a joyful, flourishing woman. Most importantly though, she believes in helping women discover their true power and reach their fullest potential in life!

In this episode, we will explore:

  • How women can break through cultural programming to put their desires FIRST, even when it is scary or feels impossible

  • How you can use their natural energetic rhythms to design daily routines and wellness habits that best support your health and happiness.

  • The importance of you following your intuition to bring your desires to life.

  • “The Cycle of Support" in her Bloom membership - what is it & how has it been transformational?

21. How to Advocate for Your Health with Heidi Mason

Have you ever sat in your car taking deep breathes to calm your anxiety before going in to see your doctor? Advocating for our health can be scary as hell. As women it is very common to feel unheard in our hormone health concerns. It may even feel like our only option is to stay feeling broken.

This week on the podcast, I have my very good friend, Heidi Mason, joining me in an open, honest and raw conversation on both our experiences within the Bio-Medical structure (aka…our current medical system) and why it may feel like its failing us and what we can do to feel empowered when advocating for ourselves.

Heidi, a former physiotherapist, brings so many great perspectives to this conversation, such as:

  • How the swing in dogmatic views of healthcare are not working and how we need to find balance

  • How authoritative ego is contributing to women not receiving the care they are asking for

  • How we are a consumer of health care and there for we need to have clarity on what we want and know we may need to see more then one practitioner to find the right solution for us

  • Lastly, we are WORTHY of excellent care and for our concerns to be heard and treated.

Make sure to listen to the end to hear our top tips to feeling empowered in receiving health care for your concerns.

20. Is Our Current Medical System a Masculine Approach to Healing the Body?

20. Is Our Current Medical System a Masculine Approach to Healing the Body?

Have you ever pondered how going to the Doctor always induces a feeling of fear and brokenness?

Maybe it’s just me 🤔!

In this episode, I share how during my last bleed I received clarity on why I resist seeing doctors…and dentists and how health or medicine really feels like very masculine approach for me. Current mainstream medicine is seen as the TRUTH and yet it makes me nervous, fearful, and often feeling broken with the only option to healing being that from an outside source. In this realization, I began to then question what would feel better then? What is the opposite? What would be medicine if it was guided and crafted by a feminine approach?

The answer…..well, I guess you will have to tune in and listen to find out.

Side note, but Important note…

Menstruation can be a powerful time for insights into your life. To all of a sudden have a flashlight glaring at a belief or pattern that is not of service to you living your best life. I always love waiting for the “Bleed Reveal” to happen each month. It is like revealing a another layer to my self healing journey. As Alexandra Pope says “if you have a problem that needs solving, bleed on it!”

19. Recurring Pregnancy Loss: how to find hope when it feels like all hope is gone (with Dr. Briana Lutz)

Finding hope after having a miscarriage can feel like an impossible task. The grief, the shame, the worry that our body is broken - these are all emotions that I felt with every loss and I know so many others feel too.

So this week I am chatting with Dr. Briana Lutz, ND to help us understand miscarriage more deeply and the steps we can take to begin our healing journey. As a Naturopathic Doctor she shares how looking at your whole health can help you find the right healing plan that will take you from feeling hopeless to hopeful on your journey into conception.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Briana Lutz provides family medicine with a special focus in women’s health, fertility and perinatal care. She is a women’s health advocate, understanding that women’s concerns are often palliated, dismissed, or ignored, compelling her to evolve the conversation and provide the highest level of care. She treats conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, and functional hormone issues resulting in PMS, heavy, painful periods, and acne. Dr. Lutz supports family planning options and contraception, as well as women in natural hormone transitions such as post-partum and menopause.

By collaboratively creating a treatment strategy, Dr. Lutz introduces simple, incremental steps to provide lasting, sustainable change. In addition to lifestyle medicine and nutrition, she utilizes a variety of natural therapies unique to the individual, including nutrient IVs and injections, acupuncture, and as a registered herbalist (RH), has a particular affinity and expertise in the application of botanical medicine.

  • Why miscarriages are classified as normal and how she supports women to help prevent loss

  • How your whole health from cardiovascular to immune to the brain can all effect your reproductive health

  • How male factor needs to be explored more in depth when it comes to fertility issues and miscarriages.

17. The Girlfriend’s Guide to Buying a Pet (how our hormones play a role in our purchases)

17. The Girlfriend’s Guide to Buying a Pet (how our hormones play a role in our purchases)

Have you ever looked into the eye’s of a cute little puppy and felt the urge to stuff them in your purse so that you could hug them and love them forever?

Well, STOP + LISTEN to this episode….

Before making that spontaneous buy, ask yourself where you are in your cycle and are your hormones tricking you into believing this is a good idea.

Join me in the humourous conversation with my bestie on how she bought Mr. Darcy, her new puppy, as a spontaneous buy in her inner spring. Now although Mr. Darcy turned out to be the right purchase for her, we chat about how our cycle does play into these spontaneous purchases that can sometimes turn out to not be such a good decision.

Although this episode is filled with laughter and fun chat between two close friends, my hope is that it sparks some curiousity into your own spending habits or decision making processes. Our hormones play a huge role in how we feel, what we decide, and how we celebrate our choices. So give it a listen and pounder about what you bought lately that may have been a hormonal decision!

This episode might just be that aha moment for you to understand why you leaped when really you should have zagged.

15. Are Painful Periods Making You Dread Your Cycle? (with Colleen Jorgensen)

15. Are Painful Periods Making You Dread Your Cycle? (with Colleen Jorgensen)

Period pain is not only debilitating for some women, but it is a monthly event that many suffer in silence. Men have not been taught how to hold space for women who experience this monthly take down and women have not been coached on how to care for themselves so that they can have tools to thrive during these painful days.

Birth control and the removal of the uterus are not the only options. There are other ways, for us women, to come into relationship with our pain to either heal it or to be with the pain without it feeling like it is destroying us. Menstrual pain is a way in which our body is trying to communicate with us, so that we can tune into our cycle even deeper.

In this episode, we have Colleen Jorgensen join us to explain how we can be in a relationship with pain and to make it our friend and not our enemy. She will also share some common presentations that happen in the body with period pain and how she has coached her clients with tools such as simple movements to find pain relief.

Colleen Jorgensen is an Osteopath, a graduate of Pain Care U’s Professional Pain Care program and a therapeutic Pilates, yoga and Somatics teacher. She combines manual therapy, current neuroscience research and the polyvagal theory with creative, embodied movement, mindfulness, awareness, and a distinctive, compassionate approach to pain care and movement.

In 2020 with her desire to empower people with knowledge, awareness and practical tools she created the  D.A.R.E to Heal  – Discover Yourself to Recover Your Health an 8 - week online pain care program.

12. Risking It All To Live Your Life's Purpose (with Rebecca Canup)

It can be hard to follow your life’s purpose and work in a job that you are passionate about. For many of us, we fall into roles that pay the bills or feel socially acceptable. BUT sometimes when we dare to leap and follow our heart’s desire, we can come out the otherside living our passion.

This week, Rebecca Canup joins us to share her journey of leaping from her job in healthcare to her dream job as a poet and how to get here she needed to….

  • Heal her womb
  • Get vulnerable with her fears and her desires
  • Trust that making the move would provide her with the life she dreamed of

Jumping is not always easy, but it is always worth it when we follow the whispers of our heart, our womb and our truth.

Rebecca Canup is a Canadian poet and writer. In 2020 she left her full time healthcare job to pursue writing full time. Since then she has birthed her first two poetry books - “Women Born in Fire, Burning with Grace and Other Lessons” and “Where the Sand Meets the Ocean”- as well as birthing her son.

9. How over medicalization of the woman’s body has deepened the sisterhood wound

9. How over medicalization of the woman’s body has deepened the sisterhood wound

Over the past century women’s bodies have been over medicalized as a band aid solution to silence our menstrual symptoms and gynecological issues. Yet women’s bodies and hormonal systems are not always taken into consideration in medical research and doctors are not being trained in hormone balancing (listening and investigating root causes).

So how can we expect women to know and trust their body when those we seek advice from don’t really understand it either?

The silent hormone epidemic does not only affect our health as women, but it is leaving us confused, self-doubting and judgemental to other women.

I truly believe that because we have been ignored and our experiences have been minimized, we in return have taken this emotional imprinting and added to the sisterhood wound we see in our daily life.

The wound of thinking that other women should push through their symptoms, that we are to not ask for help or rest and that to be valuable and equal we need to sacrifice our health.

In this episode, I will share some of my own lived experience of how I stayed silent for so long in my life and what my big vision is for the future - women holding space for others women to be cyclical and judgment free.

So join me as we unpack how medicine has made us feel broken and how our next womb-led tip of bringing back the felt sense of the red tent can be the first step to healing women, the sisterhood wound, and getting us all back to cyclical living.

8. The lesson's I learned on my journey to healing endometriosis with Jamie K

Endometriosis is a condition that can take years to be diagnosed. For many women with this condition they live with debilitating menstrual pain and often are only given two options by modern medicine - birth control pill or hysterectomy.

Jamie K lived with endometriosis for 20 years before a doctor finally diagnosed her. During that time she was told by many physicians the pain was in her head. When she was finally diagnosed, she was at stage 4 with endometriosis on 12 organs.

Not only did Jamie heal her body of endometriosis, she went on to having 2 kids in her late 30 & early 40’s, and now helps women understand their condition while providing tools and options to balance their hormones and achieve pain free periods.

In today’s episode Jamie shares:

  • Her Journey into getting an official diagnosis
  • How she had to strongly advocate for the treatment plan she desired
  • Finding the right doctor who supported her approach to healing endometriosis
  • How Mayan Abdominal Massage woke up her up in an unexpected way
  • Her 3 tips to start your journey to living in peace and healing your endometriosis

This conversation will be reassuring to anyone who feels like they are fighting an uphill battle with endometriosis. I am still shocked to hear these stories of how women need to fight so damn hard to be heard and believed when it comes to issues of the womb. BUT, Jamie really does show us that when you listen to your gut and don’t allow yourself to be bullied, you can come out the otherside with exactly what you wanted.

Madeline MacKinnon is a hormone nutritionist who has been coaching women for 10 years on how to eat for their menstrual cycle and their hormones. She is dedicated to helping women recover from debilitating hormone imbalances through holistic strategies to balance their hormones and improve their fertility without synthetic hormones or medications.

And so today, Madeline is going to give us the 101 on nutrition and how we can nourish our hormones for deeper wellness.

  • How might we know we have an imbalance in a specific hormone like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone
