Deadly Combination of Chemist turned Suspense Author—Deborah Sprinkle

Deadly Combination of Chemist turned Suspense Author—Deborah Sprinkle

Debbie Sprinkle is an ordinary woman who serves an extraordinary God. She grew up in St. Louis where she met and married her husband and attended college. She became a chemist and worked in research for a number of years.

Debbie’s writing didn’t actually start until much later when she and her husband moved to Memphis and she had retired from teaching chemistry. Then Debbie began leading Bible studies at her church. The quality of her weekly emails led to an invitation to join the Women’s Speaking and Writing Team, and to attend the 2009 "She Speaks" conference. At that conference, Debbie and Kendra Armstrong became friends and out of that friendship, their first book, "Common Sense and an Uncommon God" was born. It was later renamed to "Exploring the Faith of America’s Presidents."

Debbie's second book is entitled "Deadly Guardian." She is currently working on several other stories--all mysteries or suspense--her favorite kind.

Heart to Heart Conversation With Christian Romance Author by Night and Pharmacist by Day—Marie Hobbs

As a person who fell in love with books before she could read and created stories before she could write, Marie Hobbs is an avid reader. As a woman who is a hopeful romantic, she has read a lot of romance novels. As a Christian, she searched for stories with the same values as mine. As she grew older (and wiser), it became more difficult to find characters she could relate to and books that she could enjoy from cover to cover. She wanted to see herself, her friends, and her family reflected in the books she was reading. People of color who are thriving in their careers, growing in God, and approaching life with humor and grace – as the main characters. Since she couldn’t find enough of the books she wanted to read, she started writing them. Blending real-life experiences, storylines conceived over the years, and creative license, the Unexpected Love Series was born – later-in-life inspirational romances with people of color as the main characters. The first two books in the series - Love Next Door (novella) and Better Than Good (novel) - were released in January 2023 and are available on Amazon.  Make sure to check out this guest & connect on Instagram with author @mariehobbs You can listen to the podcast on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Podcast, or visit my website www.drkatherinehayes.com💗 • • • #authors #podcast #interview #apple #spotify #google #authorsofinstagram #books #read #reader #writerscommunity #listen #writer #write #mayhem #authorlife #author #bookstagram #blog #book #booklover #authorssupportingauthors #writersofinstagram #writers #readersofinstagram #readersofig #readersgonnaread #mystery #diversebooksmatter

Author Angela Greenman—expert in the international atomic energy agency shares her latest thriller

Angela Greenman is an internationally recognized communications professional. Her career has spanned the spectrum from community relations in Chicago to US and world governments’ public communications on nuclear power. She has been an expert and lecturer with the International Atomic Energy Agency for over a decade, a spokesperson for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and a press officer for the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, the City's civil rights department. After traveling to twenty-one countries for work and pleasure, she decided it was time to seriously pursue her love of writing. She wants to share the exciting places she has visited, and the richness of the cultures she has experienced. In a September 27, 2021, Writer Unboxed post by Erika Liodice “Travel & Writing: Exploring the Creative Connection”, Angela shared how travel inspires her writing: “For thriller author Angela Greenman, whose debut novel The Child Riddler is forthcoming, it was the Prague Castle that left her speechless and roused her inner storyteller. “I was overwhelmed by the atmosphere and its massive complex,” said Angela. “Inhaling the towers’ cold musty smell imbued me with its history—the ruthless discipline of the castle archers at the narrow windows; the fear that the torture victims must have felt—and my muse went into overdrive, inspiring a major ‘chase’ scene that takes place in the castle. Angela used the details that moved her, like the tall graceful blue bottle of Bulgaria’s national drink, rakia, and the glow of Austria’s green and blue domes in the evening light, to weave an elegant “background tapestry” that contrasted her characters’ devious plotting.” You can connect with Angela on Facebook @Angela-Greenman-Author, Twitter @AngelaGreenman or Instagram @angelsprism. Jeff Keene—author of “Under the Rainbow” discusses true story of stolen slippers in Wizard of Oz

Jeff Keene—author of “Under the Rainbow” discusses true story of stolen slippers in Wizard of Oz

Jeff Keene II is the Peg Leg Penman. His moniker comes from the tragic result of a line-of-duty firefighting injury in 1989, which left him with only one foot. Despite this, Jeff has a passion for life that’s evident in everything he does.

A man of many talents, he is a scientist, teacher, Christian, sailor, husband, and father. Despite his talent as a wordsmith, he had no intention of being a writer. With his love of helping others and sharing knowledge, he used his biology, linguistics, and chemistry degrees to become a public school teacher.
It was while teaching that he embraced his true calling—storytelling. Whether crafting lesson plans or telling tales to his students, Jeff always has a way of making the material come to life.

Since becoming a writer, Jeff has published several books. WordCrafts Press published Pericope in 2021. The first-century historical Christian fiction novel follows the story of an adulteress seeking absolution from Jesus for her sins.

In his most recent publication, Under the Rainbow, Jeff tells the true story of Judy Garland’s magical ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz and how they were stolen in 2005, only to be retrieved years later. Throughout the chapters, he weaves in exciting tales about the history of the slippers and their impact on popular culture.
Jeff’s latest book shows he is a master of fiction and nonfiction storytelling. Whatever the genre, his writing is always engaging and entertaining. Whether writing about a famous Hollywood icon or a first-century adulterer, Jeff makes his readers feel like they are right there in the story.

Jeff currently lives in central Florida with his wife. When he’s not writing, he enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors, hiking, boating, and geocaching.

Looking for more from Jeff? A new book is on the horizon—keep an eye out in the late spring of 2023! In the meantime, check out his website, www.peglegpenman.com, for updates on his current projects and to learn more about his previous publications.

Award Winning Journalist & Thriller Author Debra Gaskill Shares the Secrets of Success

Debra Gaskill is the former managing editor of the Washington Court House (Ohio) Record Herald. She was an award-winning journalist for more than 20 years, writing for a number of Ohio newspapers covering the cops and courts beat, and the Associated Press, covering any stories thrown her way. During her tenure at the Record-Herald, the paper earned two Associated Press General Excellence awards.

Gaskill brings her knowledge of newspapers to her Jubilant Falls series. The mysteries 'Barn Burner' (2009), 'The Major's Wife' (2010), 'Lethal Little Lies' (2013), 'Murder on the Lunatic Fringe' (2014) and 'Death of A High Maintenance Blonde' (2014) all center around crimes committed in the fictional small town Jubilant Falls, Ohio, and often center around the damage family secrets can do. The series brings her cops and courts experience together in a mystery that "creates complex characters and places them in real settings" according to customer reviews on
Amazon.com.

By 2016, the series included two more books, 'Holy Fitz' and 'Love Fitz' and was named best thriller series at Queen of the West Book Bash.

In 2018, the fourth book in the Fracktown Gumshoe series, Kissing Fitz, was awarded the Silver Falchion Best Suspense award at Killer Nashville. The award was presented to her by internationally known author Anne Perry.

The fifth Fracktown Gumshoe mystery , Toxic Fitz, was released in late 2018 and also a Silver Falchion finalist.

The sixth book in the Fracktown Gumshoe series, Finding Fitz, was released in late 2020.

Black History Minute Celebrates Unsung War Hero—James Armistead Lafayette

Black History Minute Celebrates Unsung War Hero—James Armistead Lafayette

Born around 1748 in New Kent, Va., Armistead was given permission by his master to join the revolutionary cause. Although many fought as soldiers, blacks, both free and enslaved were being used by the British and the Americans to gain intelligence against each other. Armistead, however, was used by both sides, making him a double-agent.

In 1781, he joined the army and was put in service under the Marquis de Lafayette, who was desperately trying to fight the chaos caused in Virginia by turncoat soldier Benedict Arnold. His forces diminished by British Gen. Charles Cornwallis' troops, Lafayette needed reliable information about enemy movements.

Armistead began his work posing as an escaped slave, entering Arnold's camp as an orderly and guide, then sent what he learned back to Lafayette. He later returned north with Arnold and was posted close enough to Cornwallis' camp to learn further details of British operations without being detected. By also being used as a British spy (who fed them inaccurate data), Armistead was able to travel freely between both sides. One day, he discovered that the British naval fleet was moving 10,000 troops to Yorktown, Va., making it a central post for their operation.

Using the intricate details Armistead provided, Lafayette and a stunned, but relieved George Washington lay siege to the town. Concentrating both American and French forces, a huge blockade was formed, crippling the British military and resulting in their surrender on Oct. 19, 1781.

Rex Ellis, vice president of Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area, says Armistead's role was critical to the American victory. "If he had not given the information that he gave at the strategic time he did, they would not have had the intelligence to create the blockade that ended the war."

Despite his critical actions, Armistead had to petition the Virginia legislature for manumission. Lafayette assisted him by writing a recommendation for his freedom, which was granted in 1787. In gratitude Armistead adopted Lafayette's surname and lived as a farmer in Virignia until his death in 1830.

Award winning author, artist & all things geeky tech services expert—Patricia Tiffany Morris shares

Patricia Tiffany Morris sketches ideas in her sleep, that is when she finds time to sleep. As a young child she read late into the night, her mom reminding her she would have school in a few hours. Staying up all night served her well during architecture studio projects at ISU in the 80’s.

As an adult, she home educated her five daughters, immersing them in the imaginative worlds of Little Women, Little House on the Prairie, and Nancy Drew. Her favorite authors include classics by John Bunyan, C.S. Lewis, A.A. Milne, and Dr. Seuss. She actively supports fellow authors and teaches art and computer organization and offers other geeky tech services.

Now an empty-nester, Patricia pursues both writing and art. Inspired by her humorous, rhyming husband, she brainstorms as he reads her writing in delightful character voices.

She works full-time as a self-employed owner of Tiffany Inks Studio LLC, and plans to create more books in the JOURNALING SCRIBBLES™ Series.

Thriller Author & Owner of RockHill Publishing—James L. Hill—Opens Doors for Fellow Writers

He began writing short stories and poetry back in the early years. In his twenties, James moved on to novels, but fell out of love with the whole publishing industry. He worked in the financial industry and later got a degree in computer programming, James' other love. He built a successful career as a software engineer designing, developing and maintaining systems for the government and the private sector. He has been programming for nearly forty years in various languages. With the advantages provided by the expanding and growing self publishing business, print on demand, and the explosion of social media/internet as a viable means of advertising James returned to his first love, unleashing the characters in his head. He published the Killer Series, "Killer With A Heart" and "Killer With Three Heads", the first two in the series. His vision is to make it easier for new authors to be discovered by doing away with unsolicited manuscripts and agent only submission. Make sure to check out this author & connect with James L. A sit-down with the queen-bee of engagement—author/blogger Marian Beaman

Marian’s love of books, along with a connection to students and colleagues, has made her years in education pure joy. She has spent more than 40 years teaching, finishing her career with 21 years at Florida State College in Jacksonville. Her academic writing includes a multi-colored array of topics, ranging from “A Thousand Acres: Not King Lear in a Cornfield” for the American Popular Culture Association and “It’s Not Easy Being Green, Wal-Mart and Me,” recounting her neighborhood struggle to keep large oaks and tall pines from biting the dust. Her dream came true when she presented and published “God: Myth and Mystery from the Romantics through the Twentieth Century: Informing Global Religious Conflict” in magical Oxford, England. In 2011 Bedford St. Martin’s textbooks published “Facilitating Cooperative Learning,” the mantra of her most effective teaching techniques. Now in her Third Act, she has embraced creative non-fiction with “Gutsy In Ukraine,” published in Sonia Marsh’s My Gutsy Story Anthology (2014), Volume 2. In September 2016, her story “Making Love Edible: Lessons from Fanny Martin Longenecker” was published in The Mennonite magazine. In the fall 2018 issue, The Arts & Antiques show magazine published her article in Patient Profiles. She publishes her blog Plain and Fancy Girl on Wednesdays.  Her book is entitled Mennonite Daughter: The Story of a Plain Girl, a memoir that depicts her sheltered life along with revealing family secrets. Tackling tough issues while maintaining integrity- author-Judith McNees

Judith McNees lives in southwestern Michigan, where she has lived her whole life, with her husband and four of their seven children, along with their three dogs. The family loves to travel together, and Judith fancies herself an amateur adventurer. She has decided that she must see all fifty states before she dies, and she constantly drags her husband along for the ride. She has seen thirty-three states so far, and she still believes her home state is one of the most beautiful states there is.

Judith has been a lover of writing and reading since childhood, and her family believes she spends an inordinate amount of time reading. She enjoys curling up in her recliner with a soft blanket, a hot cup of tea, and a good romance. Her love of romance books combined with her love of Jesus prompted her to begin writing novels for those who appreciate clean romances with a strong Christian message. She doesn’t believe in drama for drama’s sake, but she does strive to tackle tough issues while maintaining her integrity as a Christian in everything she writes, whether it is fiction or non-fiction.

Award-winning-one-legged-author/mentor: Jeff Keene shares his heart & background story

Jeff Keene is a scientist, a teacher, a Christian, a sailor, a husband, and a father. He has been a firefighter, a researcher, farmer, and adventurer.

When attending seminary, he chose to write a ten page research paper on why the Pericope de Adultera - John 8:2-11 - should be included in the New Testament. It was a textual criticism that, since writing, had urged me to create this story about the woman saved by Jesus, not only from being stoned to death, but more importantly, saved spiritually. His book is called Pericope.

He has been happily married since 1994 and has two adult children. Originally from Long Island, New York, they have lived in central Florida since 1998. Connect with Jeff on Instagram: @pericopenovel1

Black History Minute Celebrates Lorraine Hansberry, author, playwright, activist

Black History Minute Celebrates Lorraine Hansberry, author, playwright, activist

Lorraine Hansberry ( May 19, 1930- January 13, 1965) earned a special place in history as the first African-American woman to have a play produced on Broadway. As the daughter of Charles Hansberry, AKA the “kitchenette king”, Hansberry grew up on Chicago’s South Side in an affluent family. Despite her family’s wealth, she experienced racism. Hansberry’s father bought a house in a racially mixed neighborhood when she was eight years old, which prompted vicious attacks from their white neighbors. These attacks had a lasting impact on Hansberry, and she would later capture the essence of her family’s experience in her very successful play, A Raisin in the Sun. Theatergoers enjoyed the universal appeal of Hansberry’s plays, though she also seamlessly forged a connection between her art and hot-button issues which personally affected her—like racial equity, women’s rights, and the gay rights movement—that may have otherwise alienated mainstream audiences. Her skillful approach to making controversial topics accessible to the general public wasn’t limited to the stage. As she rose to fame, she became a regular guest at televised debates and town halls, sharing her ideas with the influencers of the 1960s. She notably participated in a meeting with Robert F. Kennedy, who served as Attorney General at the time, along with James Baldwin and other Black cultural leaders to discuss race relations in the United States. Widely recognized as a brilliant writer and thinker, Hansberry’s promising career was cut short by a quick and brutal battle with pancreatic cancer at 34. She died on the closing night of The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, the second of her plays to be performed in her lifetime. Her body of work may be sparse, but her words continue to inspire readers generations after her death.

Notable works: A Raisin in the Sun, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, Les Blancs (published posthumously)
