I received a question today that said this: “For me personally. The need to binge is so fierce and gripping. There's areas of my life that I’m very conscientious and strong willed, but with the food,I literally need, need, need to binge. It’s something that is a complete all or nothing, and something that I've tried countless approaches, in trying to deal with. I don't like the idea of being a victim and I don't like the idea of “can't do.” But currently with the food I have been completely unable to effectively do anything that works. The only thing that worked ever was intermittent fasting with keto. But it left me feeling tired, weak and irritable. So in short, the sheer force and urge to binge seems so large and magnificent (for lack of a better word) that I cannot comprehend, (currently) a time that I won't need to binge eat. And can be in control with food. It's hard to think that this can be solved without dedicating every waking minute and bit of energy to resolve it.” ~[Name redacted for privacy reasons] In today’s episode, I’ll be addressing this exact concern. That’s because even though you *logically* know that you DON’T want to binge, all that logic is overridden by that strong, mysterious force compelling you to binge. So once the food urges creep in, all your logic and willpower don’t stand a chance against deeply-rooted compulsion. As a psychologist, Hannah knew “what to do” but didn’t know “how to do it.” She hit a low after she had tried years of dieting to lose weight, only to gain it back again. She also spent 8 years in a 12-step program trying to overcome her binges and compulsive behaviors with food. Nothing worked. Hannah got to the point where she was crying every day, worried that the overeating would never stop. But after just a few days working with us, she started to notice major shifts in her eating, which gave her hope, and broke the binge cycle that she felt trapped in for years. As she continued to heal her relationship with food, she saw even more changes, proving to herself that her eating disorder wasn’t something that she needed to “manage” or “cope with.” Instead, she knew she could end it. Feeling in Control: Short Guided Breathing and Relaxation

How can you feel more in control while eating? There is a way to feel in control without using tons of willpower or forcing food rules on yourself. It begins with developing a different type of self-control than you may have tried in the past. When most of us think of self-control around food, we think of trying to force ourselves to only eat certain foods, foods of a certain portion size, or eating between certain hours of the day. There are two major problems with this: 1. If we focus all of our control on food restrictions, we end up working against ourselves. Since restrictions fuel binges, trying to control quantities may cause a type of relapse after, where you binge on what you were trying to avoid. 2. By only focusing on self-control in the ways of restrictions, we ignore the body signals that can actually help us develop a quieter, more peaceful type of self-control. In the first part of this talk, I'll go over a new type of control that you can learn, and why it plays an important role in ending binge eating permanently. Release Your Binge Eating Identity (& Embrace a New One)

Has binge eating become such a huge part of your life that it feels like it’s who you are? Have you forgotten what your life was like before the endless cycles of restriction and binges? Have you been dieting and bingeing for so long that you can’t imagine a future without it? Are you ready to shed the “old” you, and embrace a newer, happier, healthier version of yourself? When we’re stuck in long-term habits, we often equate these habits with who we are. We say things like, “I’m a yo-yo dieter” or “I’m a binge eater” or “I’m a food addict.” Maybe you’ve also said, “I’m weak,” or “I’m hopeless” or “I’m fat.” We attach labels to ourselves based on what we do, how we think, and how we feel about ourselves. A problem arises: when you keep attaching negative labels to yourself that are ultimately the opposite of what you want, it’s a slippery slope into a self-fulling prophecy. For example, the more you tell yourself you’re disgusting, the more disgusting you feel. The more you tell yourself you’re hopeless, the more hopeless you feel. At the same time, it can feel ridiculous to state empty affirmations like “I’m strong and powerful” when we don’t feel that way. In fact, it can make us feel even worse, because the more we say we’re strong, the more our egos respond with, “No you’re not, you’re weak!” This episode of the podcast is all about how to start changing your inner dialogue so you can finally release the old habits that don’t serve you, and embrace ones that do. This week’s edition of the podcast is all about control … a new type of control. In the past, you’ve tried to control your food, whether it was portion size, calories, macros, or simply the types of food you allow in the house. In this podcast, we’re going to talk about a different type of personal control that’s far more effective in ending disordered eating. During our past 4 weeks of podcasts, we’ve covered the most common “invisible” blockages that have kept our clients binge eating for literal decades before they found the path to food freedom. In Part 1, we talked about the “all or nothing” mentality and self-criticism, and how to overcome them. In Part 2, Shahar gave a beautiful talk on overcoming hopelessness. In Part 3, we discussed how to rewire negative thinking. It can feel impossible to break the binge cycle when you’re speaking a totally different language than your body. And we’ve discovered that most people who struggle with binge eating don’t even know they’re speaking the wrong language! This episode of the podcast will be all about learning to communicate effectively with your body, so you can stop the binge cycle all together. Think of it this way: if you’re on the same team as someone, will you accomplish more by communicating effectively and working together? Or by trying to control them? Strong leaders listen to their team members, rather than trying to control them. The same is true when it comes to you and your body. How to End the Binge Cycle with Literally Zero Restrictions

In this episode of the podcast we explain how it is 100% possible and doable to end the binge cycle without a single food restriction. We’ve noticed that while many programs and coaches also promote “no restriction”, it’s rare to see genuine delivery on this promise. For example, just the other day I saw a coach selling her program saying, “Zero food restrictions! All you have to do is eat certain foods in moderation and only at the appropriate times!” How are “eating certain foods in moderation” and “eating only at certain times” NOT restrictions? ;-) (By the way, we aren’t at all against people using other methods, but the point is it’s misleading for someone to promote that while introducing hidden restrictions. I don’t believe most professionals do this with bad intentions — it’s possible that some may not even have this level of awareness with their own eating, so it would be impossible for them to teach it to someone else.) When we say zero food restrictions, we mean it. And here’s what that looks like: - All foods are allowed, even trigger foods. There is no meal plan or rules you need to follow about what you can and can’t eat. (We’ll explain more about the nuances of how this works in the livestream itself.) - You do not restrict your portion sizes or try to control, manipulate, count, or weigh how much you eat. Instead, you learn the natural skill of body listening so you can eat in a way that feels good, not bad. - You don’t set rules for yourself about when you can eat or what is considered to be an “appropriate time.” Instead, you learn to listen to and trust yourself, so you don’t need to rely on someone else’s rule or prescribed schedule for you to be successful. We recognize that very few people teach this, so we are getting more specific in what we’re talking about here in this episode of the podcast.
