1 Kings 12:1- 17 

Today we hear how the kingdom becomes divided and review the sections each king rules, it's name, and the tribes of each. We also point out that the Bible says these events are brought about by the Lord, that He might fulfill his word, which the Lord spoke by Ahijah to Jeroboam. It reminds me there will be times in life where it's not always as it seems. I imagine some in the kingdom were upset and concerned that the kingdom was dividing, but we can trust that God is in complete control. He just told them that the  situation  they are going through was from Him. He was still in control and had plans that they couldn’t quite understand.

Today we hear what happens at the end of Solomon's reign. Though Solomon sinned, making us wonder how the promise could ever be kept, the kids will see the Gospel woven throughout the Bible as they hear again the promise is fulfilled in the one who was born that Christmas day....Jesus. Jesus Christ will sit on the throne and His kingdom will have no end. What wonderful news!

1 Kings 10:1-14, 22-24,  & Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

 Today we begin to comprehend just how wealthy Solomon was. With his wealth and his wisdom, Solomon tells us anything he saw and wanted, he got. This might sound incredible but Solomon learned a very valuable lesson that everything is meaningless without God. Things or fame, none of that will satisfy us fully because what we are really searching for is God. The Creator of our souls is the one who satisfies us. The kids will hear examples of this so they can begin to understand how this applies to their own lives.

1 Kings 8:1-24, 54-56, & 1 Kings 9: 1-9

We are continuing our Solomon series. If you’ve missed a few, I'd highly recommend you go back and listen as they build upon themselves.Today's episode picks up after Solomon completed the temple (episode # 280). We listen in as Solomon prays to the Lord and hear what the Lord says to Solomon in return. The Lord warns him and his descendants not to turn away from Him, not to wander and serve other gods. The kids will begin to understand that out of His love, God gives us rules and consequences. When he tells us to do something it's because it's for our own good! He wants to protect us and He offers us things that are real, lasting, and loving versus other things that have fake promises. I try to help the children connect these dots with real life examples they can understand.

Matthew 27:50-56,  2 Chronicles 3:8-14 & Hebrews 4:14, 16 

In our last episode, we heard Solomon built the temple. Today, we are going to hear something really important that happened at the temple on the day Jesus was crucified. We just celebrated Easter so I think this is a perfect time to discuss the significance of the veil being torn. I hope your kids enjoy it!

For the month of March, we are beginning a brand new series on Solomon! 

 Each episode will also build upon itself so if you miss one, just go back and listen. We are going to learn about Solomon 1 episode at a time and let me tell you, the Bible is never boring so buckle up.

Parents I have adapted some of these episodes out of respect for each family's ages and stages of  life. I always include the scripture for you to read yourself and include what's appropriate for your family. I make every effort to not alter the meaning of the scriptures when using artistic liberties or adapting to be age appropriate. Being biblically sound is of utmost importance!

We continue our short love series. Today's episode will define what a command is and understand that God's commands are made out of his love for us. We will hear what the Bible says about this and move to an example so the kids can understand it. They will learn that rules are actually loving; a way to protect us and bring us delight.

This begins a short series on love. To celebrate Valentine's Day this month, I decided it would be good to see what the Bible has to say about love. Where does love come from? Who created it? What does it look like? Tune in to hear what the Bible has to say about these questions.

1 John 4:9-10: " This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and God sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins."

 Matthew 28 :1-10, 16-20 & Isaiah 40:8

 Today, we hear Jesus promise to be with us ALWAYS! Not only on good days or when we are awake, but always!!! We hear Him say to go out and make disciples. The kids will learn what disciple means. We will also  take a minute to marvel at just how far the Gospel has spread. We remember how far away most of us are from where the Gospel began and give  thanks for those He sent to share God's word.

 Ephesians 1:13  & Daniel 6:16- 17

 Today we continue our short series about the Holy Spirit. We hear the word seal or sealed  in the two Bible readings on this episode. But what does that mean? Paul said "And in Christ, God put his special mark on you, a seal,  by giving you the Holy Spirit that He had promised." 

We discuss what the signet ring was used for historically and its significance. When God sends us the Holy Spirit, it’s like God taking his special signet ring and stamping us with it.

 God’s seal shows the world that we are His! You are his very special, very loved, sons and daughters.  

 Acts 1:12-14, 2:1-19, 32-33, 38-39, & John 14: 25

We start our episode hearing Jesus tell his disciples that the Father will send them the Helper, the Holy Spirit. But when will He send Him? Today's episode addresses this.  We fast forward to after Jesus has risen and returned to heaven. The kids will get a brief order of events to help them understand when the episode takes place. We hear the Holy Spirit arrive...howling wind, flames of fire, everyone miraculously speaking different languages... incredible !!!!! Peter addresses the crowd who is chuckling at this wild site. Peter explains what is happening and reminds them that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God.

 There is so much to say about the Holy Spirit. Today we will cover when He arrived and how He helps us. Next week we will discuss another aspect of the Holy Spirit so tune in. Your children may have many questions........mine asked me 10 questions about Heaven yesterday !  Don't shy away from them. Be honest. If you don't know, tell them you will look it up and see what your Bible says or other online, Biblically sound resources have to say. I've also found it helpful to ask them what they think. It gives you a gauge on what they already know and sometimes clarifies what they're actually asking. There will also be times we don't have an answer..God is God, we are not, so we don't know it all but, we can remind our kids that we can trust what He says & pray for help to understand his Word. 

Acts 1:1-11 & Luke 24: 36-43

We just celebrated Christmas, which reminds us of Jesus' 1st coming. Today, we will hear the Bible teach about His second coming as we hear what the disciples experienced.   Jesus gave us  instructions on how we should live while we wait for him to return and guess what… He left us w/ some incredible promises as we wait too. We will talk about those more in the next episodes. For now, we remember we have hope. Why?  Because God always keeps his promise so when the Bible says Jesus will come back, we can trust Jesus will return and that, that  gives us hope. 

Micah 5:2, John 3:16-18, & Luke 2:1-7

Today we learn what a prophet is when we introduce Micah. We discuss how Micah specifically told where Jesus would be born and we follow the journey God put Mary and Joseph on to get them from Nazareth to Bethlehem. God used different people, events, etc but it allllllll happened just as He said it would. This story also drives home John 3:16-18; that God sent his son Jesus, not to condemn the World, but to save us through Jesus. What a precious gift this is!

To engage more with this episode, you can grab a map and show your kids Nazareth and Bethlehem so they see where Mary and Jospeh traveled. You can also listen to the song "Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem."

Matthew 2:1-12

This is the classic scripture about the Wise men.  The kids will learn that these wise men were not who you would expect to search out Jesus.  We discuss what Gentile means and realize that Jesus is not just the king of the Jews but the King of all nations. That's wonderful news for us! You don't have to be a certain age, live in a specific area, or look a certain way to worship Jesus.

2 Chronicles 20: 1-6, 14-17, 21-23 & Psalm 118:1

Today we hear that King Jehoshaphat and his people faced a war which they didn't want to be a part of. They still gave thanks to God during the tough time, even before the war was won.  We also briefly discuss the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and learn that the pilgrims and those in our Bible story had a lot of sad and hard things they could’ve focused on, yet they chose to look for some good things to thank God for. This doesn’t mean we have to put on a happy face or ignore sad feelings; it means we still trust that God is good, He loves us, and we can be thankful for that even in sad times. We will hear a special ending as our wonderful listeners chime in on what they are thankful for.

Job 34:19 & Isaiah 64:8

Today will be different than our normal Bible stories because we are doing a special episode to explore the  large world our God has made, learn about the people he created, and hear how we are the same and different.  Sometimes, we can get caught up in seeing just our little world and forget that not everyone lives the way we do. We explore the world as we hear about a group of children in the Philippines and how they get to school. Everyone gets to see just how big the world is, but how connected we are in Jesus.

Psalm 119:105-112 & John 8:12

Today's story is shorter than usual b/c we need time to discuss it. In this episode, the Bible shows us Jesus is the best light, the real light. The kids will consider if there are bad lights. This is where our fireflies and fish discussion comes in.

 The magnificent light Jesus offers us helps guide us… “Your word is a lamp to my feet,
 a light on my path" through God’s word.

The kids will recognize that  some things try to be a brighter light than Jesus & pull our attention to it. Sometimes, these "lights" want to guide us and act like they are the best light but they aren’t. Only Jesus is the 1 true light, who wants what’s really best for us.

John 2: 2-11 

Today we hear the classic story of Jesus changing the water into wine at a wedding. This was his first miracle and we see Him use the people and the things they had on hand to participate in this miracle.  I hope you enjoy this episode and it helps facilitate conversations  in your family. 

John 1:43-51

Today we hear Jesus gather more followers; Phillip and Nathanael. Nathanael doubts that the the savior could come from the town of Nazareth. We hear  Jesus' response to this and from it learn that Jesus knows what’s going on inside of us, our thoughts and feelings, and He knows what’s going on outside of us.  Jesus is such a powerful & loving father that there will never be a time when He does not know what’s going on in your life and that brings us comfort today.

John 1:19-23 & 35-42

In today's episode, we will hear priests asking John the Baptist who he is. They have journeyed all the way to find him in order to understand who he really was.  We discuss that there are others in the Bible with the same name so it's important to know which John we are reading about.  We also meet Andrew and hear that he was excited to follow Jesus. Andrew couldn't wait to tell his brother, Simon, all about the Messiah. The kids will be reminded that we too get to tell others about Jesus just like Andrew did. 

Colossians 3:12-17 & Ephesians 5:20

Today we read Paul's letter to the Colossians. He writes, " And whatever you do, whether in word or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." The kids will learn that this really means in whatever we do. We don't give thanks or serve God only when we are having fun or getting a gift.  To help them understand, we use real life examples: Instead of complaining that they they have to clean up their toys, they can remember they get to clean them up because they are thankful God gave them toys to clean up. I hope  today's episode reminds your family of God's truth and encourages conversations. 

Matthew 15:29-39

We continue our compassion series. If you’ve missed the previous ones, please go back and listen as they build upon themselves. 

Today, we are learning about compassion from the one who did it best and of course, we are talking about Jesus. The scriptures will show how He had compassion on the hungry crowd. We've heard something similar to this before when Jesus fed the  5,000. The kids are encouraged to look up Mark 6 & 8 and Matthew 14 &15 where both feedings are recorded. Parents, help them identify similarities and differences between them.

Matthew 20:29-34 & Colossians 3:12

 We continue our series learning what compassion is from the best teacher, Jesus. Today we hear Jesus show compassion to 2 blind men. The crowd tells the blind men to leave Jesus alone, but that doesn't stop them from crying out to their loving Savior. Click play to hear the miracle from today's scriptures.

Matthew 14:13-21

Today, we begin a series about compassion. We begin by defining it and seeing how Jesus showed us how to be compassionate through His actions. Jesus had just received some sad news about John the Baptist but despite this, he had compassion on the crowd. He healed the sick and fed them too. There is so much to learn from this story that we will do it again in the future to accommodate talking about more of it. The kids will be prompted to consider how they can show compassion to others.

Acts 27:21-44 

 We pick up from last week's story where we find Paul on rough seas as he journeys to visit Caesar. Paul tells everyone about God's promise He has given him......and guess what!??!??! Every single one of those promises comes true! We discuss that God has given us promises too and read some of these from our Bible today. While we hopefully won't be on a creaky boat with waves crashing all around, we too have times where life feels stormy. The kids are encouraged to memorize some of God's promises so we can cling to them when life does get a bit stormy.

Acts 25:10-12 & 27:1-26

 This episode introduces Paul and gives a brief history about who he is. Paul is falsely being accused of breaking the law so he asked to be sent to Caesar, since he is a Roman citizen, and discuss his case with him. Today's story picks up here on this exciting journey. Paul boards the creaky ship bound for Italy but on the journey, they encounter rough seas. We will hear the promise God gives Paul and how Paul trusts God even in the storm. It ends in suspense so we will continue this story next week.

Esther 4:15-17, 5,6,7

 Queen Esther saw a problem and instead of pushing it off on someone else to solve, Mordecai reminded her that maybe God made her queen for that exact moment. The kids will be reminded that like  Esther,  God has specific plans for them. God knows we will see certain problems or someone needing help and He wants US to be the one to help. Our loving God wants us to be included in His wonderful plans....the plans may be small or big, but each day God has a purpose for US !

Esther 2:19- 4:14

 We continue our Esther series. Listen to # 254 if you missed it. Today, we hear Esther has a serious  decision to make. We learn that doing the right thing can be unpopular or even kind of scary sometimes. The kids will think about examples of this in their lives. We remain encouraged that right is always right even if no one else is doing it AND hear that perhaps, Esther was made Queen for such a time as this. 

Esther 1-2:1-18

 Today, we hear the story of Esther. The kids will hear the context of how she became Queen and that God had a plan for her. They will be reminded to put themselves in Queen Esther's shoes and consider what it may have felt like. We connect that just as God had a plan for Esther, he also has a plan for us too.

Luke 5:1-11

This is the classic story of Jesus calling the fishermen to come, follow Him and become fisher's of men.  We will hear how Simon Peter obeyed Jesus and how we can too.

Luke 19:1-10

This is the classic story of Zacchaeus  who was lost but then, he was saved by Jesus. We all have been lost but there’s good news because  Jesus came to save you and me too. The kids will learn how a tax collector was viewed so they can understand what a big deal it was when Jesus asked to go to Zacchaeus' house.

James 3:3-10 & Proverbs 15:1-2&4

The Bible shows us the power of our words using examples of small things that have the power to move very large things ....to be impactful. The kids are encouraged to observe how words impact others & discuss w/ their family, what they notice.

Luke 6:43-45

Today we begin a short series on words... ya' know, the things that come out of your mouth when you speak. Maybe you’ve never really stopped to think much about them, they just happen so quickly. Our words do matter b/c they have power and are important.. atleast, that’s what the Bible says. In this episode, we will talk about where words come from & listen to Jesus teaching using an example of something the people were familiar with..trees and fruit.

Matthew 6:19-21 & 1 Timothy: 6-10,17-19

You will hear this episode start out just like last weeks however, keep listening because we are adding in different scriptures and discussing a new application. We will hear God's warning about money but also His promises. The kids will understand that money itself isn't bad, it's the LOVE of money that gets us into trouble. We apply this on a very practical level as well as discuss what the Bible says about storing up treasures in heaven.

Matthew 6:19-21, 24 & Luke 12:13-15

 In today's story we hear Jesus teach "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” We discuss what greed actually is and share an example from my childhood that the kids can relate to. We must be on our guard as Jesus says, because often the world we live in tells us the opposite. It says your life is cool, amazing, and valuable IF you buy this thing or that thing. It is not wrong to want things.. we simply must be cautious that we don't become greedy with our wants. God wants us to trust that He will give us all we really need. He gives us reasons to trust him AND explains why his ways are best which will be discussed on the next episode. 

Mark 12:41- 44

This is the beginning of our short series on money. We discuss what we mean when we talk about our "hearts." Today, we hear the story of the poor widow giving out of her poverty. If we quantified it, she gave less than others BUT Jesus still says she gave more than all those who contributed to the offering box. Hmmmm. What does this mean? Well, tune in to today's story to see why it's not the size of the gift that matters.

John 20:17-31

Jesus had risen and his followers got to see him! All were overjoyed except the 1 who  wasn't there when Jesus came. Thomas had missed this incredible meeting and doubted what his friends were telling him. We note that Thomas was a real person just like us & like him, we can always talk to Jesus about our questions or doubts.  Will Jesus come back to show Thomas too?!? What does Jesus call us who haven't seen him but believe? Tune in to hear this story. 

Mark 1:41-45 & 2:1-12

Today, we hear a paralyzed man get lowered from the roof in hopes to get in front of Jesus and be healed. I wonder if the paralyzed man was disappointed when the 1st thing Jesus says to him is "Young man, your sins are forgiven.” What? They had gone through all this trouble to have him walk again…what was this about sins?  As we continue the story, Jesus shows us that the biggest issue is our sin but the good news is that He can forgive them. We are reminded of the love He has for us as evidenced by the sacrifice He made to forgive us.

Daniel 6

Today is the last episode in our Daniel series! As we end, we find Daniel in a very scary situation.... in the lion's den. Daniel had done everything right yet it seemed like everything was going wrong. This story reminds us that even though we do the right things, the outcome can still feel wrong. But be encouraged b/c we hear that God never leaves Daniel's side. The apply section discusses that God loves us and is with us on good days and hard days too.

Daniel 4:28-37

In our last Daniel episode, episode #240, we heard the king writing a letter explaining a bizarre dream he had. If you missed it, make sure to go back and listen because this episode builds upon it. 

The king's dream ends up coming true & God humbles him in this process. We discuss the difference b/n humility and pride and are reminded that God was so patient w/ the king. God offers us this same, loving patience when we ask for his forgiveness. God doesn’t roll his eyes when we ask for forgiveness yet again but instead, he’s so patient, so loving, that he HE wants to hear from us.....bring us  back to Him when we wander off the path b/c He loves us so much!

Matthew 28, Luke 23, & John 19

This is perfect for Easter!

Jesus is placed in the tomb but he does not stay there? We hear the joyful news of what happens on that 3rd day! Jesus is victorious!!!  Our story reminds us of who Jesus is and why we should rightfully place our hope in our Savior and in him alone.

This is a perfect episode to prepare us for Easter. The story reminds the listeners that Jesus always knew Peter would deny him and that Judas would betray him. It reassures us that Jesus had a plan all along and was not surprised. Just as we heard w/ Peter,  you can never do anything that Jesus doesn’t already know about AND he still chooses to love YOU.  Jesus loves you b/c you’re YOU! You are his child, made in His image. No matter how many roosters crow in your life, Jesus will still lovingly welcome you back w/ open arms.

Daniel 4:1-27 

If you have missed the previous Daniel episodes, I'd recommend you go back and listen  as the stories build upon themselves. 

Today, we hear king Nebuchadnezzar have another dream. Daniel explains that this dream is from God and is a warning for the king. This dream is to help teach him a lesson: to stop doing wicked things and be kind & admit that God is the ultimate ruler of the kingdom and not him. We discuss how this applies to a child's life. The kids will  observe areas that we try to set up our own little kingdoms  and act as  king or queen & we end with being comforted by the reality that our all knowing, all loving, never changing God is the ultimate ruler.

Daniel 3

If you missed last weeks episode, I highly recommend you go back and listen as these will build upon themselves.

In today's story we hear king Nebuchadnezzar build a golden statue and demand that everyone must bow down to it.  What will the consequence be if they don't? We may not be asked to bow down to a statue but we must be careful because we too can make other things more important than God.... Just as king Nebuchadnezzar wanted that statue to be more important than God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's faith shines brightly in this story. It's easy for us to say "God I'll worship you because you gave me exactly what I wanted today." It's a different feeling when we can say “God I really hope this or that will happen BUT even if it doesn't , I will still love you and worship you." That’s what they did!

Even in one of their most frightening experiences, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had their Heavenly Father there with them. Just as He was there with them, He will be with you all of the days of your life.

 Daniel 2:1-28,46-49

The King has some confusing dreams and the only one who can explain them is Daniel. Daniel knew this was made possible b/c of God not him, so he made sure God received the credit. The kids are reminded to observe the wonderful things God allows us to do and be grateful versus puffing ourselves up as if it's all b/c of us. Some may think our examples don't seem incredible. God gave Daniel the ability to do something amazing! But the truth is, ours are actually miraculous things! They just seem normal b/c they happen day after day. We get used to seeing the miracle God provides each new day.

Today we hear Daniel asking permission not to indulge in the King's food b/c it would make him impure.  Daniel did not want to disobey God even though it seemed like everyone else was. We apply that our world or culture sometimes wants us to do things that God says not to do. We may feel the pressure to do it b/c well, everyone else is.  The kids see that Daniel knew what was right b/c he knew God's word and he chose to obey even if it seemed no one else was. The kids will hear examples of what this may look like in their own lives.

This is part two in our pride series. If you missed last weeks episode, please go back and listen.

Today we hear our Bible tell us that God knows everything, that he loves us, and that we can trust him. When we think we know better than God, then we are acting in pride. The Application section helps the kids connect the dots by using an example of a puzzle. We get glimpses of these tiny puzzle pieces in our lives and some pieces are confusing like Mary’s visit with the angel while other pieces are very exciting and happy!   But God sees the whole picture, our whole life... things we can’t but he can b/c God already sees it put together forming a beautiful, purposeful picture. 

 We must remember not to become prideful , when the pieces don’t make sense or maybe we don’t like them. We shouldn’t try to force pieces together that don’t fit.... then, comes pride: “But God, I know better, I want the picture to look like this, not that!”

  Last week, we learned about humility. Today we hear about its opposite… Pride.  Pride can take many forms but today, we are going to hear a made up story to show how pride goes before destruction and is damaging to yourself and others.....how pride can make us  care too much about what others think of us instead of what God thinks. We will hear the scriptures first and then move straight into the story. The Bible is where we go to to understand pride. We discuss the importance of always going back to the Bible because sometimes the world will teach the opposite. The world may clap for things that God tells us to steer clear from.

Today, we hear what Jesus says about being humble. His followers try to keep the children from Jesus but instead, Jesus welcomes them with open arms. He teaches that " The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child."  This story will explain why children are used as an example of humility and we help the children connect the dots of applying this in their lives. We differentiate humility from speaking badly about yourself and hear what the Bible says about true humility.

Luke 7:36-50

This is a story about how to fall more in love with Jesus. We hear how a woman who realizes how serious her sin is suddenly now aware of just how sweet Jesus' forgiveness is. This realization turns her heart to love Jesus even more and from this love, she weeps, wetting his feet w/ her tears and using expensive perfume on them. Contrast this with the Pharisee who is there and how much love he shows Jesus. Knowing what is going on in the heart of the Pharisee, Jesus tells him a story to help him understand that he who has been forgiven little loves little. We do emphasis  that Jesus is NOT saying to go and do worse things to be forgiven for more severe things.

Matthew 2:1-12

This is the classic scripture about the Wise men.  The kids will learn that these wise men were not who you would expect to search out Jesus.  We discuss what Gentile means and realize that Jesus is not just the king of the Jews but the King of all nations. That's wonderful news for us! You don't have to be a certain age, live in a specific area, or look a certain way to worship Jesus.
