Jesus is my shepherd
Reflection on John 10:1-10.

Shepherd and His Sheep
Today's Gospel contains a fragment of Jesus' teaching about the Good Shepherd (John 10: 27-39). The sheep that obeyed His voice are seen in Heaven. They stand before the throne of God and before the Lamb (Rev. 7: 9). How did they get there? By believing the testimony of the apostles (Acts 13:48) and by persevering in their faith (Rev. 7:14). (Reflection for the Good Shepherd Sunday).

To whom shall we go?
Today we end the reading of John's Gospel, chapter 6, that dominated the entire week. And the ending of this chapter is instructive. It began with Jesus multiplying bread in the wilderness for thousands of people who in return wanted to crown him their king. It ends with many of his disciples leaving Jesus and no longer walking with him. (John 6:60-69)

The mystery of the Eucharist
The Jews ask in today’s Gospel, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” The only possible answer to this question is the mystery of the Eucharist. (John 6:52-59)

Taught by God
When Isaiah spoke the words quoted by Jesus, “They shall be taught by God”, he envisioned a new age in which the children of God are going to be taught directly by their God. Isaiah does not explain to us how it could happen. (John 6:44-51)

The bread of life
There are seven "I am" statements in the Gospel. All of them have a similar structure. They begin with the phrase, “I am” followed by a predicate. “I am the bread of life” is the first one. (John 6:35-40)

Except through Jesus
From its beginning, Christianity was called the way. On the one hand, it means following Jesus on the way of the cross towards Easter. On the other hand, it is the way of life that leads to personal transformation: dying to oneself and living for Jesus and His Gospel. (John 14:6-14)

Believe in Christ
In our passage today, the crowd that ate the bread pursues Jesus, curious about how Jesus got across the lake to Capernaum. Jesus could easily tell them what the reader knows that he walked on the waters. Instead, he tells them that they pursue him for the wrong reason. (John 6:22-29).

Joy comes in the morning
Our Lord was crucified under the reign of Tiberius (14 -37 AD), Saint Peter under Nero's rule (54 - 68 AD), and Saint John died during the reign of Emperor Trajan (98 - 117 AD). It was a period of darkness that aimed to extinguish the light of faith. Such nights are constantly repeated in the history of Christianity. And yet, no night lasts forever. Reflection for the Third Sunday of Easter - Year C.

The Lord walks on the stormy sea
Who can walk on the waters of the sea? In the book of Job in its ancient Greek translation, the author asks a similar question. “Who alone has stretched out the heavens, and walks on the sea as on firm ground” (Job 9:8 LXX)? (On John 6:16-21)

Passover in Galilee
Every Gospel has the story of the multiplication of bread for 5000 men, but John provides us with certain additional details that we cannot find in other Gospels. (On John 6:1-15)

Wrath of God
The phrase, “the wrath of God” makes many of us uneasy. Theologians teach us that the phrase applies human emotions to God. So, what should we do with it? Should we ignore it? (On John 3:31-36)

Choose life
“God so loved the world”. (On John 3:16-21).

Eternal life
Those who believe in Jesus, the crucified Lord of glory, receive new life. (On John 3:7b-15).

Transforming power of the Gospel
the Gospel of Mark is the shortest among all four gospels. Mark writes in a simple language and the action moves from one story to another. Although written nearly two thousand years ago, this small book retains its power. (Mark 16:15-20)

His Love is everlasting
Sunday is the first day of the week, the day God created the light (Gen. 1:3). "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5). But Sunday is also the eighth day - the beginning of another world in which death is no more and human hearts are circumcised by the power of the Holy Spirit. Reflection for the Divine Mercy Sunday.

Additional Ending
The earliest manuscripts of the Gospel of Mark end at Mark 16:8. That ending is abrupt and surprising. (Mark 16:9-15)

Going fishing without Jesus
There are plenty of people waiting for the Gospel, but if the risen one is not present among us, we will not draw anyone to the Church. It is not the lack of fish but the absence of Jesus that is the problem. (John 21:1-14)

Preaching repentance in Christ’s name
At the centre of today's Gospel is the proclamation of "repentance for the forgiveness of sins" (Luke 24:47). This is the commission of the risen Jesus to the Church. (Luke 24:35-48)

Jesus, the Stranger
The Gospel is full of people who are depressed. Life did not have anything to offer. And things would go on that way if not for one person whom they met at a certain stage of their lives: Jesus of Nazareth. (Luke 24:13-35).

"Mary!"
In the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene plays a remarkable role. Together with the mother of Jesus and the beloved disciple, she was at the foot of the cross at the moment of Jesus’ death (John 19:25). Then, early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, she came to the tomb and was the first to discover that it was empty (John 20:1). (John 20:11-18)

Go back to Galilee
The Jewish authorities had to feel terrible on that Easter morning. (Matthew 28:8-15).

Christ is Risen. Alleluia!
We can look at the mystery of the resurrection from various perspectives. One can see in it the manifestation of God's justice. But, the truth about the resurrection also testifies to the famous saying that "love is strong as death" (Song 8:6). Reflection for Easter Sunday.

Go to Galilee

He descended into Hell
The Apostles' Creed teaches us that after his death Jesus descended into the abode of the dead. (Reflection for Holy Saturday)

The Source of Eternal Salvation
The first reading of today's liturgy describes the suffering of God's servant and explains its salvific meaning. (Reflection for Good Friday).

Called to Imitate Jesus
The liturgy of Holy Thursday reveals to us the mystery of the Eucharist rooted in the feast of Passover. (Reflection for the Holy Thursday)

Woe to that man
In today's Gospel, Judas plays the role of paid informant ready to sell for money his master. Nobody likes such people. (On Matthew 26:14-25 - April 13, 2022 - Wednesday, Holy Week, Year C)

Paving the way to life
Yesterday, we saw Jesus reclining by the table with Lazarus and today we see him reclining by the table with his apostles. Our Lord is deeply troubled - one of his disciples would betray him and the other would deny knowing him. (On John 13:21-33, 36-38 - April 12, 2022 - Tuesday, Holy Week, Year C )

Silent witness of Lazarus
Jesus, the resurrection and the life and Lazarus, who heard the voice of the Son of Man and came out of the tomb, share the meal.
(On John 12:1-11 - April 11, 2022 - Monday, Holy Week, Year C)

The mystery and power of the Cross

Is it better?
Is it better that one man should die instead of the people, so that the entire nation may not perish? What do you think? (On John 11:45-56)

The importance of John the Baptist.
John pointed toward Jesus, and those who accepted his testimony came to believe in Jesus. One among them was the author of the Gospel of John. (On John 10:31-42)

Who is Jesus?
The remarkable things that Jesus was doing and the claims that he was making about himself were shocking indeed. “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death“. (On John 8:51-59)

Truth sets free
We all know Pilates’ question: “what is the truth?” And we all know the answer: Jesus is the truth. (On John 8:31-42)

What kind of sin?
The word “sin” appears twice in today’s Gospel - the first time it is in the singular and the second time in the plural form. What kind of sin did Jesus come to take away? (On John 8:21-30).
