Lakeview Missionary Church SermonsMay 01, 2022

Truth Matters (2 John)
In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about Truth and Love. He breaks down what John told the chosen woman and her children about truth: How they need to practice and protect it. He also talks about how love and truth ties together and how we as Christians can have a balance of both. John writes about the deceivers of the Christian faith, and what happens to those who take them into their home and support them. How should we treat those deceivers, what defines truth and how is it relevant in our lives? What is the fulfillment of the Old Testament Law? Listen to find out more!

Direction in the Midst of Disaster (Habakkuk 3:16-19)
Sometimes things don't always turn out how we thought they would. We can experience situations we didn't expect, and this can cause uncertainty. In this passage, Habakkuk is trusting, waiting, and surrendering to God's plan. In the beginning of the book, he had been asking questions that are in contrast to the end, and now his faith has matured since the start of his conversation with God. In this sermon, Pastor Chrisopher talks about the contrast between the beginning questions and the end praise Habakkuk presents to God. He talks about the penalty of sin, and the source, symbol, and singing of strength Habakkuk demonstrates. Finally, he tells us how we can rejoice in God even when times seem to worsen in our lives.

Standing Ovation (Habakkuk 3:3-15)
How we view God can affect our faith. In this passage, we learn about the way Habakkuk believes in God. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the awesome appearance of God and the amazing acts of God. He talks about the personification of nature at the sight of God and how He overcomes His enemies by using bad things for good to protect the righteous. Finally, Christopher breaks down how God's power in the past can give us faith in the future.

The Prayer of a Prophet (Habakkuk 3:1-2)
Sometimes we don't always get the answers we want in life, especially in difficult times. How can we have peace in those times? Habakkuk chapter three talks about the inner change between God and Habakkuk, and how he responds to God's answers. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the peace Habakkuk has towards God's answers, and how we can have that peace. He talks about the obscurity of Habakkuk and how God uses even the most insignificant people. Finally, he breaks down the confidence Habakkuk has in God, and how we can have that level of confidence.

Living by Faith (Habakkuk 2:2-20)
In this passage, God gives Habakkuk a third answer to his questions. He discusses His plans for the future, His plans for the Righteous, and His plans for the Wicked. God's answer describes the Babylonians and how wicked they truly were, and he tells Habakkuk to write down everything He wants the future generations to know. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about how one can become righteous in the sight of God, and how to earn that righteousness. He talks about the description of Idols, and how God looks at them. Can we become righteous by works? How do we grow in our Christian life?

God, Do You Have This? (Habakkuk 1:12-2:1)
How do we defend God's goodness and power when questions are presented? God's answers to Habakkuk are quite perplexing, and in this passage, Habakkuk questioned why God would use a wicked army to destroy a less wicked city. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down the titles Habakkuk uses to describe God when he was talking to Him, and why the attributes: 'Everlasting' and 'Eyes' were used to refer to God. He talks about the brutality of the Babylonians, and what they worshipped and believed in. Finally, he tells us where Habakkuk's confidence in God comes from and how we can have the same confidence.

God's Got This (Habakkuk 1:5-11)
In this passage, Habakkuk is learning that God has not been idol. He has been working on a plan to correct the Israelites, but it is not in the way Habakkuk was expecting. God was using a wicked army, the Chaldeans, as His instrument of punishment. The description God gives of the Chaldeans was very dramatic, yet still had a purpose. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the sovereignty of God, and how we know about that sovereignty. He breaks down the description of the Chaldeans and what God meant by each word. He also talks about the 'Time of Grace', and how God is just in His punishment for the Israelites. What is the news that seems too good to be true? Listen to find out!

Wondering and Waiting (Habakkuk 1:1-4)
As a prophet, Habakkuk approaches God differently than the other prophets of the Gospel. He comes to God with the questions of the people, and two of his questions are: How long will I cry for help? and, why are these things happening? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down the setting Habakkuk is describing. He talks about the context of Habakkuk's questions, and the sort of context we should have in our approach to God. He also talks about the difficulties we face enduring the plan God has for us in this fallen world, and how the viewpoint within the world is limited. Who was Habakkuk? What do we know about him? The Greatest Life Ever Lived (John 21:15-25)
Happy Easter!
In this sermon, Pastor Christopher discusses the three points of this passage: Jesus' Commission, Clarification, and Certification. He breaks down the similarity of Peter's denial and restoration of the Lord, and how Jesus restores him publicly. He shares that we all have a priority and a plan and how we can focus on that, even if we face persecution or suffering. Lastly, he talks about the knowledge that is essential to know as Christians, and if it is alright to not know or understand everything. Listen to learn more!

Six Eyes at the Cross (John 19:17-30)
Thanks for listening to this Good Friday message from April 7, 2023 at Lakeview Missionary Church.

Breakfast with a Resurrected Man (John 21:1-14)
Our human nature leads us to use our own strengths and minds, but is that what God wants us to do? We do not always ask for His guidance, and because of that situations are not always the easiest, or might not even work out for us. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about Jesus' appearance to the disciples as they were fishing. He breaks down the failure, the favor, and the fellowship Jesus finds with His disciples, and how He shows them to rely on Him instead of their own wisdom. He also talks about the theories people have had over the years about the exact number of fish John talks about, and what it could actually mean. What can we accomplish when we follow God completely? From Doubting to Believing (John 20:19-31)
We all have a ministry as Believers in Christ, but what is it? When Jesus appeared to the disciples, he comforted them, convinced them, and commissioned them. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about what Jesus did for His disciples to comfort and convince them. He talks about Thomas and his doubt about Jesus being alive, and what Jesus did to go above and beyond to prove to Thomas he was alive. Christopher also shares about the peace Jesus gives to us all, what that peace is, and where that peace comes from. What do the Gospel writers share with us about Jesus' ministry? What does the Bible say about peace? Listen to learn more!

True Love (John 20:11-15)
When Mary found Jesus' tomb empty, she wept in despair, for she thought someone had stolen His body. She mistook Jesus as the gardener and asked if He had taken Him. Mary's actions show us her unselfish love for Jesus. How can we have that type of love for Him? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher asks us two questions: How much do you love Jesus? and Why do you love Jesus? He talks about the new relationship Jesus has towards us after His death, and what His new mission was after his resurrection. He shares why we should stick to God, even in the most difficult times, and what God does for those who suffer for Him.

Running for the Lord (John 20:1-10)
How do we have faith in God when we don't fully understand Him? In this passage, the disciples find the tomb without Jesus' body. Peter and John both reacted and felt differently towards this discovery, but what did their reactions really mean? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the disciples' faith during the encounter of the empty tomb. He shares about the three gifts we need as Christians of faith, even when we don't fully understand what God is guiding us to do. He also shares the Old Testament predictions of Jesus' resurrection and what faith truly is.

A Savior in Tomb and Followers in Light (John 19:31-42)
As Christians, one of the questions we should ask is "What are we getting ourselves into when we accept Christ"? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the three disciples that emerge in this passage, and what role they performed after Jesus' death. What two things could happen to Joseph of Aramathea in taking and burying the body of Christ? Christopher also breaks down The Body, The Believers, and the Burial of Christ. The soldiers took him down from the cross, but they did it differently than the other criminals. Why did they treat Him differently? In what ways did their actions fulfill the Scriptures?

The Presentation of the King (John 18:28-19:16)
Pilot knew that Jesus was an innocent man and tried five times to prove His innocence. Why did Pilot try to let Jesus go? The Jewish leaders had been trying to catch Jesus doing things against the law, and they had been careful up until the Trial, but that is when their caution ended. How did they react to Pilot? In what way did they blackmail him? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the four points of irony towards the Jews John points out in this passage. He shares three things he wants to stick with us and how Jesus indicates the way of His death early on. How is truth defined? Will we, as Christians, have a perfect life in the eyes of this fallen world? Listen to learn more!

Past Predictions Coming True (John 18:12-27)
How do we react when we are under pressure? Every person does different things to cope with or handle pressure. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher shares the two sides of Jesus' trial and Peter's trouble in the passage. He talks about the high priest's prophecy of a man who had to die for the people. He breaks down Jesus' feelings and what ways the trial was wrong. Christopher also talks about Peter's three denials of Christ and proof of Peter's devotion to Christ. And finally, we learn how we can be courageous under pressure.

When Following God Leads Uphill (John 18:1-11)
As Christians, we quickly learn that our plans don't always match up with God's plans. A lot of the time, they are very, very different. The night before Jesus died on the cross, God's plan was going underway through two people: Jesus and Judas. Everything had to be precise in order to fulfill God's plan. Why did Judas have to be so careful in arresting Jesus? Why did three different groups come to arrest Jesus? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about God's purpose and how the Lord is in control of our salvation, even if His plan confuses us. He also breaks down Peter's courage in defending Jesus, and why Jesus rebuked him.

Parenting: Raising God's Blessings Right (Ephesians 6:1-4)
There are 4 parenting philosophies that have been applied to raising children over history, and they have been altered throughout each generation. These philosophies are viewed differently by each person, but what does the Bible say about raising children? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about how Paul instructs children to act towards their parents, and how parents should treat their children. What is the meaning of submission in the household from the child? How do we as parents use encouragement to discipline our children? What should be the center of our discipline? Money: Giving God's Money to God's Work (2 Corinthians 8:1-9)
What does the Bible say about money? In Corinthians, Paul writes to the churches of Corinth and Macedonia concerning their giving. He gives them multiple ways in which they should give. He also tells 5 things about the church of Corinth concerning their giving. At that time, Christians were receiving persecution for following One God instead of their multiple gods. Paul wrote that they should follow a singular God and why they should give back to Him. However, which believers should show generosity in their giving back? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down the big idea: why should we give back to God's people, and in what financial state should we give? Listen and find out more!

Marriage: Finding and Keeping a Godly Spouse (Ephesians 5:22-33)
In the book of Ephesians, Paul paints a descriptive picture of marriage between a Christian man and woman. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the three images Paul describes about marriage: The responsibility of wives, the responsibility of husbands, and the responsibility of both. He talks about the 5 resolutions both should keep in mind about their spouse, what Paul meant when he instructed women to submit to their husbands, and how men should look at that submission. In what three ways should a man love his wife? What is the true meaning of headship? How do men and women show respect to the other one through Godly submission and selfless love? Work: Doing Secular Work in a Sacred Way (Colossians 3:22-4:1)
Colossians is one of the letters Paul wrote while he was in prison. In the third chapter, he talks about the Members of Service, the Manner of Service, and the Motive for Service. Throughout this chapter, he describes the behavior issues of service members and what God expects from us as Christians, either as service members or those serving over others. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about Paul's intentions of his letters, from what in ourselves we should work, and Spiritual Rewards we can receive in our daily service. Retirement: Finishing Life the Way God Desires (2 Corinthians 4:1-18)
As one approaches retirement, many questions or presumptions can arise, one of which being: What is our job after retirement? Just because you retire from your employment, doesn't mean your work is done. God has a special ministry for each person, and it continues later in life. In this passage, Paul talks about our ministry and following God in suffering, what Christians have to look forward to after death, and the example of clay pots. What does that really mean? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down the four messages of the clay pot image. He shares about Paul's physical and emotional suffering and how God provides for us when we suffer. What is the purpose of affliction? What do you transition into after retirement? What does pain forge? Listen and learn more!

Praise from the Pasture (Luke 2:8-20)
Who did God choose to be the first evangelists to proclaim the message of His Son's birth? The shepherds. Most people would want a mighty speaker, or a righteous priest to share this amazing news, but God chose some of the most average people. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher shares what part the shepherds played in this historical moment, how God used shepherds throughout Scripture, and Christopher breaks down what they learned that night of Christ's birth. He also brings the message around to our lives, and how we can be like those lowly shepherds, and how God can use anyone to accomplish His Will.

Mary: A Woman Empowered by God's Provision (Luke 1:26-38)
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was chosen by God to fulfill His plan for the world. Because of this, the world looks at her in many different ways. How should we really look at her? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the angel's message to Mary. He breaks down her reaction to the angel, the possible reaction of her people, and her submission to God, even if that meant public humiliation. He also shares how the trinity can be seen in the reincarnation of Jesus.

Joseph: A Man Directed by God's Messengers (Matthew 1:18-25: 2:13-15, 19-23)
Obedience is often hard for us as humans. We like the freedom to choose our lives and paths, but that isn't what God wants. Joseph was very obedient to God's Will, even though it caused him to go against the traditional ways of his people. Before God sent an angel to talk to him, Joseph was planning to dismiss Mary as his future wife. In what way was he protecting Mary? How does he react to the angel's commands from God? What was the severity of travel they had to do for God? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down these verses and the in-depth level of obedience Joseph has. Are we as obedient to God as Joseph?

Elizabeth: A Woman Rewarded by God's Plan (Luke 1:5-7, 24-25, 39-45, 57-61)
Answers to our prayers don't always come as quickly as we would like them to, and in the story of Elizabeth, she waited for a child for a very long time. God told her she would have a child, and even though she had to wait a prolonged time, He was faithful. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about Elizabeth's actions and response to the prophecy of her child. He shares what happened when Mary greeted Elizabeth and the two different ways the Holy Spirit can fill a person. What kind of woman was Elizabeth? Why does God make us wait for our prayers to be answered? Tune in to learn more!

Zacharias: A Man Changed by God's Mercy (Luke 1:5-23, 57-66)
Have you ever had to apologize to God? Zacharias was a faithful servant to God and a priest in the temple, but when the angel told him of his coming son, he doubted God. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down Zacharias' story, his failure, each person's individual speaking and response, and the crowd's protest against the name 'John'. Prayer in the Shadow of the Cross (John 17)
What does Jesus' prayer in John Chapter 17 show us? He had passed on The Word, He has revealed Himself to the disciples, and now they finally got who he was and what His Mission is. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down Jesus' prayer, His mission, and what we are to do to infiltrate the world. After Jesus' death, where does the hostility of the world turn? Does Jesus provide for His servants? The ministry of God is a uniting one, but what does that mean for us? Tune in to find out!

Getting Through the Tough Stuff (John 16:16-33)
There are many adjectives used to describe a Christian life, but 'easy' and 'smooth' are probably not one of them. Jesus predicted so many events that would happen to the disciples, and now He was explaining their feelings of grief they would experience. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher explains Jesus' consolation of pain and grief for the disciples. He talks about emotions and how it is okay to feel different ways, why God answers our prayers, and the figurative principles throughout the Word.

Persecution Preparation (John 15:18-16:4)
Before Jesus was to die for the sins of the world, He spoke to the disciples to prepare them for persecution. As Christians, we will go through trials and judgements of this world. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher discusses the persecution we experience, from verbal to even modern media. Saved Servers (John 13:1-20)
Jesus always knew what His future was. He wasn't forced or hypnotized into dying for the sins of the world; He did it because He loved us. In the story of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples, we see many different things occur. Peter questions Jesus, Jesus knew that one of His disciples would betray Him, and throughout this evening, we learn so many pointed messages. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down Jesus' response to Peter. He talks about the two different cleansing categories for us. He also shares Jesus' description of the Purpose, Practice, and Result of serving others. What can we do as servants to others? Listen and find out!

Do as I Say and Do as I Do (John 12:20-50)
John wants us to know that Jesus is the Son of God. But even if people believe that He is, they don't always confess it because they love the praise of men more. Jesus tells us that if a person loves his life here on earth, he will lose it, and if a man hates his life, he will save it. What does that mean for us? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher breaks down what Jesus is saying in his speech. He talks about the four things that faith can do for us, he relates Jesus' human emotions to ours, and he shares how we are to follow God in a world of peer pressure.

Where's Jesus? (John 11:45-57)
After His last miracle, Jesus received many responses from the people. The Jews were trying to find Jesus after He raised Lazarus, but they were under a lot of pressure. Throughout the story, it escalates to people planning to stop this Man who was performing miracles. In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about how us as Christians can receive different responses and how God divides people. He also discusses how people can react to the Lord and the Gospel message negatively.

What the Blind Man Saw (John 9:1-41)
Jesus came to reveal himself to the world, but in this story the only one who truly saw Him was the blind man. The Pharisees were trying to find fault with Jesus, and throughout the story they are disputing His works. What all did they dispute? What did the onlookers do? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher describes the story as if it were a television show. He breaks down the characters and describes their actions. Divine Invitations (John 7:25-52)
What is Jesus' origin? When he was teaching to the people before his death, many of them had a misconception of Him. They knew of Him but didn't personally know Him. We struggle with this even now. What does it mean to really know Jesus? How do we properly represent Him as Christians, especially to non-believers? In this sermon, Pastor Christopher talks about the invitation to know Christ and what that looks like for us as believers. how the people looked at Jesus and what they thought of Him, and the difference between knowing of Him, and knowing Him personally.
