Monica Y. Jackson, Ph.D. is known as Dr. Monica to her students and colleagues. She is a multitalented entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in public speaking, writing, information and educational technology, leadership, and higher education, serving as an administrator and professor.

Life has taught her that pain ignites passion and purpose to turn a mess into a message. She also know that life can deal an unfavorable and unfair hand when least expected, which can wound your spirit, but birth courage to help strengthen and encourage others! 

She empowers and inspires women and men to heal by facing reality head-on, instead of covering it up, acknowledging the truth, disappointments, and setbacks. We should not pretend, put on a brave face while silently suffering, or blindly follow leaders who are hurting and therefore hurt others.

My name is Tanisha Bankston. I am a mother of three children. I am a survivor of rape, incest, childhood sexual abuse, and domestic violence. 

I lost my inner voice when I was raped at age 5 or 6. I wrote my book "My Pain is My Power" to share my story. Also to help others who have gone through or are going through what I went through as a child and into my adulthood.

I am an overcomer of all the things that I have gone through in my life. I want you to overcome things. I found my inner voice at the age of 32 years old. I lived 27 years in silence. I couldn't have done any of this without God. I had to find God, then find myself.

I am a writer, a dreamer, a fantasizer, and a proponent/student of shadow work. I believe that life is to be lived; not struggling. My weapons of choice are depth and compassion. I tell all. I can make friends with a rock and trust me, I've done it a time or two.  

I currently work in the Healthcare Technology field. I am geared toward understanding myself at a deeper level, as well as helping others come to the same understanding. I believe in God. Very recently I have started to believe in myself.

Currently completed training to be a chaplain.

Presently speaks at seminars and women groups. 

Self-published a book of poetry in 2020 entitled, "Destiny, Called My Name"

The Intention of creating The Problems With US was to focus on the conditions, issues, and dysfunctions within the Black Community, that continue to be the driving force of Africans'/Blacks' behaviors and actions towards one another and self. 

It is an opportunity to review how some of our own personal choices, beliefs, ways of living, and mindsets contribute to our conditions as well as past and present external forces or influences.  

The Problems With US seeks to spark healthy dialogues about changing negative narratives and connotations for African Americans that WE often continue to breathe life to.

I created this podcast because there are those who are stuck in the middle of their journey in walking from traumatic experiences. And sometimes we need to hear another person’s story that is on the other side called living victoriously in their authentic identity and purpose. I believe that stories are a raft to catch from someone else that can bring you through to living victoriously in your authentic identity.

So, on Thursday evenings tune in to hear stories and also to have therapists, counselors, and natural healers give you their wisdom in answering your questions that can assist you as you walk away from trauma.
