Let's start by looking at the numbers 70% of adults will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime and 20% of people who experience traumatic event will develop PTSD. In any given year about 8 million people are diagnosed with PTSD and statistically, one in 13 people that are listening to this podcast right now will develop PTSD at some point in their life.
With the stress of the Pandemic, riots, job losses and economic uncertainty, it's possible that these stats will go up.
We learn more from Dr. Laila Ansari, PhD, filmmaker, Trev Harwood and Dr. Arash Javanbakht M.D.
Dr. Ansari received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and her Ph.D. from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 12 years of experience working in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Trev Harwood, the founder of Soaring Productions and a child of a Vietnam War veteran. We discuss his short film, Lamentations and the children of Vietnam vets.
Dr. Arash Javanbakht M.D., is a psychiatrist and serves as the director of the Stress, Trauma, and Anxiety Research Clinic (STARC).
