111. Hacking the Hidden Gems of Santa Clarita Valley with Evan from Visit Santa Clarita

111. In this episode we are talking about maybe one of the most overlooked and underrated cities in Los Angeles, the city of Santa Clarita.  Well it was for sure for me anyway. I have heard about it of course and been there a few times but didn't realize just how much there is to do in Los Angeles Counties third largest city. Yes that's right. Santa Clarita is the third largest city in LA behind Long Beach and LA itself of course!  Our guest today is Evan  and he is from Visit Santa Clarita the official tourism board for the city so there is no better person to share all the incredible things that this city has to offer for those of us in Los Angeles looking for new adventures to explore.  If you already know about the gems of Santa Clarita or if you haven't yet got a chance to go out there yet, you are going to love this episode because its jam packed with tips on hacking the perfect day there.  You can find out more about Visit Santa Clarita on their Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/visitsantaclarita/ or on their website: https://visitsantaclarita.com/ You can find more LifeHacksLA at: www.lifehacksla.com and www.instagram.com/lifehacksla   To join the LA Hackers Club go to:  http://lifehacksla.com/jointheclub   This episode was edited by Jaconell Mouton from Creative Wave. https://jaconellmouton.com/

110. J. Forte. The Black Buzz Lightyear. Musician. Astronaut. And maybe LA's Next Mayor?

110. J. Forte. The Black Buzz Lightyear. Musician. Astronaut. And maybe LA's Next Mayor?

Ep 110. One of the things I love most about Los Angeles is the hustle mentality from many of the people you meet here. People in LA always seem to have multiple projects, business and side hustles going on, and lots of them are doing that while still juggling a full time job.  As someone who has that same mentality of trying to build a community and a brand and still make enough money to reach my financial goals I really truly admire people who have those same motivations.  Well, let me tell you my guest today is one of the most motivated and inspiring people Ive met when it comes to hustling every day to try to reach your goals. His name is J Forte and we actually met by chance in a coffee shop where he was gathering signatures for his run for mayor of LA. So I thought that was intriguing but after talking to him I was surprised to learn that's not the only thing he has going on right now. He is also training in Poland to be an analog astronaut. I didn't even know what that was until talking to him but its super fascinating.  He is a musician who has released music and does live performances. He has appeared on numerous TV shows, he has published a few books, he does tech consulting for UI and UX design, he does motivational speeches and mentoring for kids and oh yeah lets not forget that LA mayoral run.. So this guy is the epitome of that LA hustle that I love so much… where people from all over the world move here to pursue their dreams.. And in this interview that's exactly what we talk about.. Knowing your dreams, working hard to achieve them and making them happen right here in the City of Angels Los Angeles.  Enjoy this conversation with Jesse Forte and at the end Ill have special hack for this episode. 74. The Incredible But True Story of the Los Angeles 'Donut King' with Director & Filmmaker Alice Gu

74. The Incredible But True Story of the Los Angeles 'Donut King' with Director & Filmmaker Alice Gu

74. No matter what neighborhood you live in Los Angeles you likely don't have to go far to find a locally owned donut shop. In fact Los Angeles is known as the donut capital of the United States. But did you know that 70% to 80% of independently run donut shops in LA are owned by Cambodians? Yes those ubiquitous pink donut boxes you see all over our city came from the Cambodian American community. And the story about how all this came about can be traced back to the fascinating true life story of a man named Ted Ngoy. Ted came to Los Angeles as a penniless refugee and only 3 years later he was a self made millionaire.  He didn't stop there and helped hundreds of his fellow refugees find similar success in the Donut industry and eventually became known as the Donut King of Los Angeles. But with every story of a meteoric rise there is often a meteoric fall and Ted Ngoy's journey includes both. And despite all the past success these Cambodian families have had in LA in this industry they are slowly shrinking market share and closing shops.  Our guest in this episode, talented director Alice Gu, has made a masterpiece documentary called 'Donut King' which goes into detail about Ted Ngoy's captivating true life story and the entire history of the Donut King and its dominance over these beloved deserts in Los Angeles.   To download and watch the film you can find it on multiple platforms here: https://www.donutkingmovie.com/ You can follow the film on Instagram at:  https://www.instagram.com/thedonutkingfilm/  and to follow Alice Gu and her future projects follow her at: https://www.instagram.com/gubird/  You can find LifehacksLA at: https://lifehacksla.com/ or https://www.instagram.com/lifehacksla/

18. Hacking Torrance with Niko Rotta

#18: What city do you think of first when you hear the "South Bay"? Probably first ones to pop in your head are Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach or maybe even Palos Verdes? But there is a town in the Beach cities that does not get talked about much. It's Torrance and its pretty much the anchor neighborhood for the whole area. Torrance is home of the 5th largest mall in all of America! And is packed with just about every restaurant, store and activity that you can imagine. It also has its own beach, is home to the best Candy Cane Lane in LA, and has a huge and thriving Asian culture among so many other things.  So why is that no one outside of the South Bay ever talks about Torrance? To uncover that question I interview my good friend and professional photographer Niko Rotta. He was raised in Torrance and still currently lives and works there.  Together we share all the amazing hacks for the often overlooked town of Torrance, California Want more awesome LA Hacks?
